18:58 Hogewey is not actually a village but a neighborhood in a town called Weesp and yes, it is that uncomplicated. What they basically did was build a nursinghome but instead of one giant building, they build it as a neighborhood. There are 27 homes for six people each. Besides that there is a theater, restaurant, bar, supermarket and people can go to an internet cafe and a barber/hairdresser.
That's so cool. Netherlands seems like such a lovely place to live, a place where (it seems at least) the government actually care for the citizens. All countries should strive to be like the Netherlands, imo.

12:29 Fun Fact! That picture isn't from the original casting, It's actually behind the scenes from the episode "Violations." In the episode, someone has a flashback to when Picard was younger and had hair. In the flashback, he's also injured, hence the prosthetics on the right side of his head in the picture!
The bike paths look so weird and cool. You can kinda see trends where it's darker, and outliers where there are individual lines. Epic.

Everyone in the comments: "No fingernails?! You'd go crazy trying to scratch an itch!"
Me: "Imagine never knowing the stinging agony of a hangnail"
If you're like me, you have too much fingernail and relish the idea of not snapping a half inch claw off to the flesh and having to deal with a bloody raw fingertip for a while.
@@kilderok wait what? You mean like the nail corner that is so buried into the flesh that just a little pull bleeds like it just got stabbed?
@@samuelfernandesoliveira When your nails get as long and as thick as mine do (thickness is about the same as a fake nail) the part of the nail that grows free from the fingertip is too hard to bend like a normal nail would under stress, so it snaps off instead. Usually at the spot where hangnails like to form, so in order to fully remove the snapped nail, a bit of flesh will get ripped with it. If it fully detaches with the trauma, there is almost always a bloody fingertip.
@@kilderok oww don't make me think about that, i have the same problem and it sucks

Mildly interesting: Nero might not have been as crazy and evil as he is written about, but he did take on the senate quite a bit, earning him a lot of rich enemies. Those enemies were patrons of historians who therefore had an incentive to not be overly kind towards Nero. This doesn't necessarily mean that he was a decent leader, but most likely everything you think you know about him was propaganda.
Lead poisoning actually. The wealthy elites could afford to have indoor plumbing, and the pipes were made of a metal known as plumbium, which we call lead today, and is why lead is represented by Pb on the periodic table. It wasn't enough to be acutely harmful insofar as you could drink the water and not get sick immediately. But a literal lifetime of drinking lead-contaminated water isn't going to do anyone any favors long term.

3:32 i have visited a lot of modern art musuems in my time, and what i find that people miss is how even the most pretentious of those behind the scenes of do have a sense of humour. the tate modern has a similar piece like the pineapple one, it's basically a musuem cabinet filled with litter and other foreign objects found in the river thames from about twenty odd years ago. whenever i see it, i loudly proclaim "OH SO THAT'S WHERE THAT WENT!" before moving on to the next exhibit (which i think is the massive chanderlier made of window blinds, but don't take my word on it. might be the room with the bird noises). it is peak dadaist fun when some guy behind the scenes says "hey what would be funny is if we put this fucking fruit in a display case" and yeah, it is fucking funny. i love how goofy art gets.
FTR, yes there are many similarities between Italian pronunciation/inflection and Latin
EDIT: "Xolo" is pronounced "SHO-lo". In Nahuatl - the native language of Mexico before the Spanish arrived, X either says "h" or "shh" depending on the word. Oaxaca (a kind of cheese) is pronounced "Wah-HAK-a" for example
asholotl
thats a concept for pokemon artists right there

The whale skeleton could've either been brought there by a tsunami, or it's a fossil left over from a time when that area was underwater.
That couldn't be a fossil. Too new, not embedded in anything. Probably washed up by a wave yes, either that or flooding. That forest may not be that far from shore.
That was my thought. There's also a theory that's been around in the science realm for a while, but the thought is that the ice age caused massive flooding in certain areas of the world when the snow melted. This is just a theory of course because most explanations of the world's existence are also theories. There are however many other interesting ideas about why we find land locked, mummified or fossilized sea creatures and ancient or extinct animals. It's incredibly neat.
@@ChrisPotato1822 If they aren't widely accepted enough though unproven, they aren't theories. They're theorems or a step down from that, hypotheses.
Latin is mostly pronounced exactly as it looks. For example, in French, 'et' sounds like 'ay', but in Latin, it sounds like 'et'. In both languages, et means 'and' because Latin is the root of all west European languages

14:14 Fun fact: Mattress Mack is one of the most loved, possibly the most loved, person in Houston, TX. With those bets, anyone who spends over $3,000 on a mattress at his store gets the price of it refunded, thus getting the mattress for free. More recently and with this bet too, he's starting doubling down and refunding twice the cost so, if you bought a $4,000 mattress, you got $8,000 back. He's also given away tons of free mattresses, usually to first responders and veterans, not just in Houston but even in the cities of opposing teams. This year, he went to Philadelphia for the games and, while there, just casually donated about 200 mattresses to their first responders and veterans. He's not just loved for that though. During major natural disasters, like Hurricanes Katrina and Harvey and the 2021 Texas Freeze, he opened his stores as shelters for people, even when megachurches wouldn't. He didn't just tell staff to open the stores but was there himself to greet people, paid food venders to bring in warm food and passed out sweatshirts and warm clothes/blankets. He's done so much more for people too and is a Houston icon because of it.
Personally, I'll always hold him in high regard because of how he helped my mom. About a year and a half ago, my parents bought a mattress and bed from one of his stores because my dad was getting older, couldn't walk up stairs anymore, and needed one of those adjustable beds. Just before my dad passed away, the adjustable bed part broke after only a few months. Mattress Mack found out about the bed breaking while my dad was in the hospital. He personally left a voicemail on my dad's old phone (because it was the one on file at the store) and said that in a couple of days, he was sending over the exact same type of bed, replacing it free of charge and to let them know if we needed anything else. My dad passed away in the hospital a few days later and while a lot of businesses would've used the opportunity to then send a bill because "well, the service was for when he got back and he's not coming back so give us money," Mattress Mack refused to take payment for it and said that the last thing that my mom and I needed was another bill on top of funeral expenses. About a year later (a few months ago), my mom and I were in a serious wreck and, because we're still recovering from our injuries, we physically could not move the bed upstairs so that she could use it because she would be starting chemo soon. We couldn't get enough people (as in, friends and family) together all on the same day to help because we didn't want anyone taking days off and risking their jobs. As a last resort, we made a couple of calls and the very next day, Mattress Mack sent two guys out to move the upstairs bed downstairs, the downstairs bed upstairs, and anything else that we couldn't do ourselves while they were here. There wasn't really anything else that needed moving but he told them to not accept any payment from us unless it was their tip. Obviously, we tipped them well, especially because the store had put us as those two guys' very last stop so that, if there was a lot that needed moving, they could take care of it. I'm not the only person in Houston with stories like this either so yeah, Houston loves Mattress Mack.

Hi you are online with me
19:25 just a random fact here (In USD):
The population of Oceania is 43.5m with a GDP of about $1.8T. Share it evenly you get $41,379 per person. Top GDP in OCE is Australia with 26m people and $1.55T.
The population of Africa is 1,216m with a GDP of about $3T. Share it evenly you get $2,461 per person. Top GDP in AFR is Nigeria with 211m people and $445B.
So yeah, just goes to show how insanely rich Oceania is and how insanely poor Africa is. (obviously insanely rounded numbers)

@EmKay 14:32 BTW, Crazy Horse's sculpture is disrespectful for multiple reasons. One, it was his wish before he passed to NOT have any images of him kept, because in his culture it is believed to be a way to trap spirits and keep them from being at peace. Two, the Black Hills, where his image is being constructed, is in the SACRED land of the Six Grandfathers (the place that colonizers who wanted a tourist attraction blew the faces of people responsible for genocide into, what laymen call Mt. Rushmore). Desecration of that land is a big no-no. Three, it's desecrated land STOLEN from his people, and making it into a tourist attraction rather than turning it over to the Indigenous Nations of the region is a huge insult and just ethically wrong. And Four, THE DESECRATED SACRED LAND STOLEN FROM THIS MAN'S PEOPLE WHICH HAS HIS IMAGE CARVED INTO IT AGAINST HIS WILL... IS OPERATED BY PEOPLE WHO ACTIVELY ENCOURAGE TOURISTS TO TAKE HOME PIECES OF IT... ALL TO MAKE A MINT OFF OF IT... Instead of turning over these lands to the nations who have been wronged, a massive performative monument is scarring the land in every way that was never wanted, AND the land itself is being removed to never be returned. Seriously, the lengths some people will go...

I love the concept for Hogewey (18:58) due to it keeping the elderly engaged in general but as a health care worker I have to support it even further due to how Dementia affects the brain and how the brain works in general.
Dementia primarily effects the frontal lobe of the brain which is responsible for external comprehension (Recieving information), voluntary movement, planning, self organization and monitorization (Impulse control), on top of it's better known function of storing memories and managing emotions.
This is the reason why Dementia affects people the way it does (Poor memory and impulse control, Prone to mood swings, loss of fine motor skills or meaningful movement, trouble processing 'colour voids' [an all black surface can just look like a big hole/void to them, same with all white. It's a reason why we've forgone the old white or black scrubs that used to be used in hospitals...or at least I was encouraged to avoid wearing those colours in the old age homes] as well as reflective surfaces) They also sometimes only really remember a certain time before the brain was affected (There are some cases where they think they're living back in a time when they were a child or a young adult, ect. I've worked with a few patients like this actually)
The fact of the matter is- If you keep using a part of your brain, your own brain recognizes that it needs to hold onto that information all that much more because it's considered 'vital' to everyday functioning. With creating an environment where they are constantly doing things on their own that someone without dementia would do, you are letting them keep on using those skills but in an environment that keeps them safe (Being monitored by disguised staff that can keep an eye out for any issues like if they become overwhelmed, lost, confused, ect) which means they retain that part of their brain LONGER even with the effects of Dementia
Sadly, while there is no cure as of yet, MANY studies emphasize that patients who stay in an environment where they can use their frontal lobe continually (Talking to people, trying to bring up memories, being active/moving, ect) will slow the degredation of that part of the brain!
So not only do you have seniors who are being encouraged to be independent and social, which is already a great start for several aspects of health for ANYONE (Mental/Emotional especially!)
You are actively 'treating their condition' in a sense, which is AWESOME!
I have a feeling there is some clone stamping photoshop going on with that first one
