I usually don't comment on videos, but I have to say as a fellow video editor I really enjoyed this one. The more filmmaker and storytelling + the mega clean cinematics made this a joy to watch. Keep up the great content!
Agreed! This video really stepped it up in terms of b-roll, different camera angles, excellent music choices and terrific storytelling skills. Absolutely fantastic, Daniel! Great job! Go you!!
I always feel that people can live quite well in small spaces. There's always such a push for bigger/larger but in reality, thoughtful design and creative solutions can get you the same (if not better) outcome.
So, heres the thing. Kids do not know anything but what they have. If their lives starts in a small place, they adapt. Its most likely on the parents and what they want to achieve in life and what they want for their family. It is quite stressful to live in a small apartment as Daniel's with a kid and in the future two (CONGRATS ON THAT BY THE WAY. I had goosebumps!
I think a happy medium is best. We don’t all need to live in mansions, but many Western countries also have a bit of a housing crisis at the moment. A tiny house or a studio flat are great solutions for some people and some life situations, but not for others. There is a risk of glorifying the small space lifestyle. Many developers sell “luxury apartments” that are just a normal size. I always wonder when having two or three bedrooms and enough space for a family became a luxury. Of course it’s good to walk through life with an attitude of gratitude, but working people need to be able to afford a family home. Some people might live in small homes out of choice, but many do out of necessity.
It's refreshing to see a channel like yours helping people visualize how they can make their spaces continue to work for them, with a little creative thinking. This has given me all sorts of ideas to make small changes in my apartment.
I roared with laughter at the end of this video! Seriously though, I can see why you would want to stay there, and if anyone can think smarter rather than harder when it comes to home layout, it's you, Daniel. Fascinating video, thank you. You've taught me a lot.
That was great! But also requires a willing partner. We had 1 kid in a 650sf 1br with a Murphy bed in the living room for my wife and I, while our son had the bedroom. The dining table and “office nook” were both on IKEA Norden gate leg tables (hacked with castors) and stowed when not in use. We did that for three years. First it was cool; our NYC version of tiny house living, but by year 3 and a second child born, my wife was done with tiny house living. For baby 2 we also put the crib on castors and moved it between rooms for naps. Don’t get me wrong, I love minimalist, small space, car free, urban living. But when my wife decided she’d had enough, that was the end of it. Now we’re in a 2 bed 1 bath, and with a third on the way, we are quickly outgrowing that one too, and she’s ready to have a second bathroom. I love your work; visually, aesthetically and philosophically. - Mim
I’m with you on preferring smaller spaces. I live in a studio. I find satisfaction in knowing that every sq ft serves a purpose, though trade offs are to be made in order to maintain all the functionality that you need. I previously had my office situated in my living area, which was nice because I had the room to intentionally build out the office I really wanted. Then I bought a couch, and now my desk is in my kitchen lol. Over all it works out much better this way!
Same here. I actually moved from a one bedroom to a studio 3 months ago. I find it comforting too. Knowing where everything is, and how easy it is to clean, makes me more relaxed. I hate clutter and it stresses me out. I also work from home, and organising a studio is like playing Tetris lol. Wanna swap pics of our studios? 😅. I'm always curious how everyone organises theirs lol.
So much love for this channel and this particular challenge, Daniel. I've just moved out of my first home of 12 years, which was a 19th-century terraced cottage in southeast UK. The struggle for space and storage was ever-present, but it was a great challenge to have, and I actually really enjoyed finding clever ways to maximise and 'unlock' space whilst minimising our living at/working from home footprint.
This video has so much planning put into it, from real-life problem, sponsor, new build B-rolls, solution implemented, and the last bit of laugh. I now get why good videographers always say "story-telling" is the most important all the time!
Daniel, I’ve been watching you since forever and I think this has been one of the BEST video you’ve done. The concept, the shots, the story, the music choice. EVERYTHING IS JUST *chefs kiss* Keep up the good work!
4:41 this scene is pure art and all the b-roll in general also loved how you transmitted sadness through the music while saying goodbye at your previous setup at 3:39
I really like the idea of getting the most out of a small place. It's easy to make tons of content in a big house where you can stretch all the way, but having a decent small space is way harder. However, this type of content is so much more relevant to a lot of people. Thanks Daniel
Especially in Australia where insanely high rents see people forced to downsize and adapt. We just did Daniel taught me in his videos how to make it work and we are very comfortable.
Hi Daniel, thanks for sharing this tip :) I've tried it and I recommend not buying replacement mattresses that are too heavy. The mattresses sold by Ikea for this bed weigh about 6.80kg and standard mattresses weigh between 12 and 17kg. My new mattresses weigh 25kg each and now I can't turn the bed into a single. 😀
I was literally talking to a friend who also has 2 children yesterday about your channel and wondering how you're going to stay minimal with a child and lo and behold, the answer came today! 😊 We live in tiny flats in London as well so we can completely relate to these issues. Great ideas. Whenever I watch your videos, I tell my husband D - hey come over here, we should do this... Also, great videography. You're getting better and better! And yes, we would love ideas for when you have TWO children in a small space!
such a great video!! Cinematics, video and image compositions.... just stunning! Hugh respect for you to cut back on your setup for your family and daughter!!! That's a real father!!
I work from my bedroom and I love it. I am way more productive, and I have better life work balance. I allow myself more breaks and I easily go to work if I'm inspired, even if it's after hours. It allows for more natural daily schedule for me.
Great video, am interested to see if it works as planned. My kids never played in their bedrooms 🥴 always wanted to be where mum and dad where…kitchen, garden, living room, bathroom! 🙄🥴
We’re 2+2 family living in a 53m2 2 bed apartment and it’s so refreshing to see how other families need to move around furniture, change functions to adapt the space to the changing needs. We basically reorganize sth every 6 months. Just now, when my kids are 5 and 7 i feel like we can settle down for a bit. We would love to get a bigger apartment, give our boys separate rooms but prices are horrendous. So for now we choose great neighbourhood over living space
Love this video, especially the ending 😂. This is Sooo real life, so I really appreciate you sharing both the struggle and solution. Great ideas and I love how it turned out. The daybed is genius! The new desktop computer made me pretty jealous too.
I really enjoyed watching this one although this layout would not really work out for myself. I just feel like I don’t want to spend extra 5 to 15 minutes everyday folding and doing the bed. I can have sleeping and working space in the same room. But if you are organized this will work out great. Thank you so much for sharing this video! It was very insightful
Off the back of your video just before this we moved my husbands desk into our bedroom (it was in the living room before) and we also feel like our living space has doubled! I love your solutioning to use space efficiently instead of just buying a bigger house.
started my own youtube channel recently and am so impressed with the storytelling abilities of youtubers across all different types of niche's. This intro was so impressive!
For a heads up i have that bed; the wheels under the pulling out part broke off pretty quickly with hardly any use and the beds use for it can give you serious back pain in the long run! Ps don’t especially sleep on 2 mattresses.
Hey, I enjoy your videos a lot and wanted to suggest a shared work space. Won't that solve all your problems? You get your bedroom back and also a separate room for work. That way you can also have a daily commute and may meet new cool people. Keep up with the good work!
Love how you three are making your small space work and how that inspires others to think of what might be possible. We have four living in an older condo ~1050sqft, that is hard to do; but we did have enough space to give the kids separate bedrooms by utilizing part of the large living room, some IKEA Pax cabinets and ingenuity. As to the possible punchline at the end of the video, only you can tell us if that was a good old British gag-line setup or not😊
Love this series of videos! We’ve just bought our first flat in London, to be moved into in December, after living in Australia all our lives and being used to a lot more space! It’s a shame the application for this series requires loved in photos as we wanted to apply so we could buy the right things the first time around and not be wasteful with buying things that don’t work!
As always, another excellent video! In lots of places in the world, housing is expensive and hard to come by (like Vancouver and where we live, Victoria bc). I shared your video with our son, who is in a very similar situation to yours (all the building and location amenities but a family of 4 in 2 bedrooms). I'm sure he will be inspired by your creativity. Thanks.
4:41-4:44 is such a cool shot! And the music just makes it better. Love watching high quality and entertaining content. And loved that ending LOL. Keep it up Daniel!
i just moved to a new home... the only room left for my office/studio is a 8x9feet. i'm working there at least 8-10hours a day. I'll be happy to see what you could do with it!
Another thing to note is that the kids always love being in the room that the parent is in, so those toys will still gravitate out of the kid's room into the living areas, but at least there's a place to put it.
I have a very similar setup. One thing I will say, upgrade those mattresses, foam doesn't age well. Back pain made me invest, but tbf, I'm twice your age! Love the channel, planning to send my room in at some point for some Danisation. 👍
What a great solution! By the way, what mattresses did you end up choosing for your FLEKKE daybed? Ikea lists five different options, and it'd be nice to know which one you find so comfy!
I JUST LOVE THE INTRO, 😂😂🤣 it reminds me of my dad and I trying to negotiate with my mom about the space in the houses hahaha, Good solutions Daniel, keep the good content my boy. you such and inspiration for me as a designer.
Finally someone that prefers apartments over houses! I'm over in Ireland and people here are so against living in apartments. And apparently everyone (even those without a technical job) needs to have a home office.
Just a thought, if you were to take a hacksaw to the electric sit stand desk, cut the wall facing foot and armature down to about 10cm, drill a hole in the 10cm spur, bolt angle to the foot and attach it to the wall above the skirting. Wirk out the depth from the front of the screen, turn your PC sideways, cut the desktop so you have a couple of centimetres and fit a piano hinge between the two. Then you could still have a sitstand desk, but with the top that could hinge up to hide the work area from the sleep area. Hope I've explained it to be understandable
Daniel, your videos are absolutely AMAZING!! I've been watching for a while now, and I must say, your content is very educational, and pleasant to watch. Thank you very much for all of your hard work! May I ask what mattresses you are using? They're not listed in your product section. Thanks again! I look forward to your next video!

One year later, how is the bed holding up? Ive been considering that exact day bed from Ikea but I’ve heard bad things about sleeping comfort of the mattress
Tell us how you like the bed after a few months. I could not do it for to long. The boards became creaky and could feel it. Would like to hear your update as time goes by
Hi Daniel, thank you for inspiration for living in small spaces! I have a question- could you share, where do you keep the big mattress for king size bed, when the bed is folded? I have beedn wandering about a similar solution for my family bedroom, but I cannot figure out a good way to store the mattress :/
6:14 you better start checking BFGDs and TV alternatives then. My pick will probably be either the LG C3 or the Sony A90K. You should check David Zhang's content to see how he utilizes his TV as a productivity monitor. That's where I got most of my ideas from.
great video! I was just wondering why you didn't build in a murphy bed in the bedroom/office? Wouldn't that be easier to convert from bedroom to office mode?
Love the videos. Was that a short-throw project I saw in the living room since it was opposite the couch? I live in Barcelona now and am trying my hardest not to have a big TV dominating my living room. (the Frame TV is a nice concept but price, quality, and the need to still fill the wall is stopping me)
I imagine it's so someone can sit or use the bed while someone else works? Or maybe it's an aesthetics thing. Your suggestions sounds ike a good substitution though
It would also be handy for Daniel to sit comfortably and work on the iPad, as he is doing in one section of the video. Also, if either parent needs a nap (as toddler parents sometimes do) they can do that, too.
Love your video and idea!!! I am hugely inspired and want to try casters on my baby's crib as well. Do you mind sharing stem casters and sockets you used? :)
So which specific model of computer do you use? You mention computer visualization, but what about your architectural design software? What do you use for that, and do you think it will run something like Chief Architect?
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the longer term effects of working where you sleep. I always found it tough in Uni but maybe that was other factors 😂
is it just me or does it feel like daniel has really stepped up his videography game? the music and the b-roll look a lot better to me
Yes indeed, smooth like marques brown lee 😊
That shot on the terrace was beautifully sharp and so nicely framed.
He did! The music choices were fantastic, and he worked hard for that b-roll. 👍🙂
I echo!
yes, it feels fresh,
I usually don't comment on videos, but I have to say as a fellow video editor I really enjoyed this one.
Great job! Go you!!
Is that an announcement at the end!? If yes, congratulations, man! I'm so happy for you. 😊 (from a Civil Eng. and an Artist)

I love this style of video - hybrid of a vlog and a type of tutorial showing anyone in the same situation that this can be done.
😂 “Enough space for another kid” 😂. Is that announcement?
Dude, this video was insane. The visuals, cinematography, content itself, everything was so well made. Thanks for making such great videos!
That was great! But also requires a willing partner. We had 1 kid in a 650sf 1br with a Murphy bed in the living room for my wife and I, while our son had the bedroom. the ending!!!, Well done, this is the story telling , functional and practical ideas, video quality and tone that I enjoy from this channel
Great video, am interested to see if it works as planned. My kids never played in their bedrooms 🥴 always wanted to be where mum and dad where…kitchen, garden, living room, bathroom! 🙄🥴
Fascinating video and thank you for using your music so creatively instead of running the same eight bars over again over the whole video. You rock!
honest dad's life as a content creator and.. a dad.. thanks for this video!

Would you be able to share what mattresses you have please? Ikea ones are not very comfortable for the extendable bed.
Thank you. I love your work!
Just as a useful tip for other people struggling with a small space: a murphy bed could also be a fantastic option imo. Especially in a work/bedroom
I don't know what it is but this video was a joy to watch: the music (song btw??), the b-roll, the light-heartedness was just great. Keep it up man!
Dude the ending of the video is a whole movie 🤭
Lol @9:24 "Well I suppose we have enough room for another kid" and the video cuts before we get the wife's reaction.
For a heads up i have that bed; the wheels under the pulling out part broke off pretty quickly with hardly any use and the beds use for it can give you serious back pain in the long run! Ps don’t especially sleep on 2 mattresses.

I was raving on this shots too! Pretty entertaining huh and the chewing scene when he look over at the camera definitely is giving 😂
@@hanibee22 Agreed! It's definitely giving
i just moved to a new home... the only room left for my office/studio is a 8x9feet. i'm working there at least 8-10hours a day. I'll be happy to see what you could do with it!
Seriously, upgrading from Queen size to King size bed has been one of the best decisions we have ever made. Awesome video!
Another thing to note is that the kids always love being in the room that the parent is in, so those toys will still gravitate out of the kid's room into the living areas, but at least there's a place to put it.

Finally someone that prefers apartments over houses! I'm over in Ireland and people here are so against living in apartments. And apparently everyone (even those without a technical job) needs to have a home office.
Nice! My partner and I have the FYRESDAL daybed from IKEA in our guest bedroom. Super satisfied with it. It's very spacious and comfortable.
This was one of the best videos I've watched in a really long time. Job well done!
Really like how the video was edited different from how they usually are but still really good
Burst out laughing at the ending
Congrats on the new Titchener
Daniel, your videos are absolutely AMAZING!! I've been watching for a while now, and I must say, your content is very educational, and pleasant to watch. Thank you very much for all of your hard work! May I ask what mattresses you are using? They're not listed in your product section. Thanks again! I look forward to your next video!
Great work!
I thought you were going to go with a bunk bed with desk under, which would have been cool, but this is so much better!
I was entertained how Daniel planned this makeover from the very beginning. 😍😍 Looking forward for more. 😉😉
Have you considered using a foldaway desk, like the Murphy equivalent of the one you had in your micro apartment? It would allow for you to visually hide your desk when your room is in sleep mode. Main downside is it isn't height adjustable.
I'm not quite sold on having the desk so close and over the bed when it's pulled out, but it looks like things might have to change again soon!
congratulations to both of you, love the new set up and wishing your whole family the best ❤
OMG THE BOMB DROP AT THE END!!! Congratulations!!!
Loved loved loved the vibes of this video, knocked it out of the park
Beyond happy to see my fave youtuber struggling in Vancouver with space like the rest of us ;-P
One year later, how is the bed holding up? Ive been considering that exact day bed from Ikea but I’ve heard bad things about sleeping comfort of the mattress
"her development is more important than my minimalist preferences" - I love that
Tell us how you like the bed after a few months.
Love this videos ❤ Would love the link to the mattresses please
6:14 you better start checking BFGDs and TV alternatives then. My pick will probably be either the LG C3 or the Sony A90K. You should check David Zhang's content to see how he utilizes his TV as a productivity monitor. That's where I got most of my ideas from.
great video! I was just wondering why you didn't build in a murphy bed in the bedroom/office? Wouldn't that be easier to convert from bedroom to office mode?
Would love to see some tips for baby proofing your spaces, specially with all the tech components throughout your condo
Love the videos. Was that a short-throw project I saw in the living room since it was opposite the couch? I live in Barcelona now and am trying my hardest not to have a big TV dominating my living room. (the Frame TV is a nice concept but price, quality, and the need to still fill the wall is stopping me)
Such a smart move ; leading to better bed, better sleep, even better idea to come 😉
Great compromise, pioritizing what really matters :-)
I love your videos and your style!
Why not go for a Murphy or one of those Ori beds?
I imagine it's so someone can sit or use the bed while someone else works? Or maybe it's an aesthetics thing. Your suggestions sounds ike a good substitution though
It would also be handy for Daniel to sit comfortably and work on the iPad, as he is doing in one section of the video. Also, if either parent needs a nap (as toddler parents sometimes do) they can do that, too.
Congratulations Daniel and Neesha!❤
Congratulations guys!
@daniel can you show us how you maximize the use of your storage locker
Love your video and idea!!! I am hugely inspired and want to try casters on my baby's crib as well. Do you mind sharing stem casters and sockets you used? :)
Stealth pregnancy announcement! Very sly - congratulations to you all. Hope the new layout works out for you
