Swin Low Sweet Chariot is a song kids learned in grade school in the 50's. It's a song we would all know from our childhood. To see how music could help this woman come out of herself and laugh is remarkable. Thank you for sharing this!
My grandmother had Alzheimer's and when she was in the nursing home she always seemed very depressed. One day I went in and sat with her for hours singing the italian songs I learned in school. She even made a friend because another patient joined in! I love music and I have wonderful memories of how it can turn hard times into laughs. Your mom reminds me of my grandma. Cherish the wonderful moments you have with her :)
I so miss you Mom. I hope you ar4e enjoying Mother's Day in Heaven.
Beautiful vid. Love her smile. I play these lovely songs in my music for seniors performing in Nashville. They all love singing along with these great ol songs.
My grandfather had Alzheimer's. You Are My Sunshine was his favorite song. Touching and beautiful!
hovRaunt It was one of my mothers favorites too. We have found a bunch of signs we have around our home with song lyrics
I have Alzheimers disease ; actually 56 years, diagnosed 6 years ago. The music theraphy its an extraordinary tool in ALZ .... In my case, my pasion is eared music in UA-cam : metal, classic, any type that feel me happy, produces peace in my heart and stimulate my brain. Go ahead, the life is the most beautiful gift than GOD give us!!!
this is one of the most beautiful things i've seen. I'm sure music is the best non-physical therapy for any disease :)
i loved the way they treat your mother with a song...and ofcourse with much LOVE in doing it.
My auntie Florence was an Alzheimer's patient, and they never tried music therapy with her. I have had it though, and it is a very powerful tool. Your mother is a beautiful lady. :)
been in this field all my life. I have been so blessed with such a wonderful field.
I am so amazed at how Alzheimer's patients react and almost regenerate with music. I am so so happy to be a musician and I really hope to be a part of giving some sort of music to Alzheimer's patients. Lovely.
As well, this memory loss treatment tinyurl.com/y2sdvj3p is a sensible improvement that enhance recovery in your concentration and memory. This is really fun in the first place. I am finding my strengths and also those areas that challenge. I have done more tasks everyday without worries with my memory so great.
Wonderful!
Still giving these people joy and dignity! I only hope to have people like Lori Le Bey, and Barbara Lee Friedman to sing with me when I am old. Thank you for all you do.
Thank you so much for your kind comments
HI Nickel 74
I did watch your video and added it to my collection. I will add to the resource directory I am launching this month for dementia as well. Nice job! Lori
Great guitar playing! Magical moment!
someone wrote in about their grandfather with dementia and his love for music and how he still remembers how even without recognizing them, he was humming his favorite songs. its beautiful... I believe he removed the comment but if I did in error I apologize... It was a great comment for others to hear Wishing you well as you remember your Grandfather. Lori
How sweet is this! Beautiful!
Thank you Chris. My Mom is still alive though not as engaged as she once was.
Lori
so glad you liked it. I just went and saw her today and although she has declined more she is still in there :-)
Oh I'm so glad you had the pleasure to do music therapy with your Auntie Florence. They are such precious moments! :-)
this is so awsome to see her smile
bless her
music seems to help alzheimer patients drastically I work in a alzheimers or dementia only home and one of our ladies will only willingly get out of bed if the music is on if the music is not on and you go into her room she tell you to "GO AWAY im not getting up im still tired" and this is after she has been in bed for 15 hours :( but if the music is on she will get up no problem, I love her she is precious!
it makes me happy to see caregivers that are this involved!
This video was touching. Music Heals.
Thanks for writing Sassy What great memories we both have to cheerish!
Thank you for sharing the video, Lori. My mom has been diagnosed with Alzheimer disease for about 3 years now. It saddens me to see our communication is decreasing every time I see her. I am looking for ways to connect with her. Your video reminds me to connect with her through music since she loves music and singing...
Such a wonderful video and precious memory.💜
Thanks Lisa. I still watch these even though my mom has been gone since 2014. They perk me up especially when down. :-)

I agree with you very much on your comment. Music does heal! Thanks for watching!

You are correct. It all depends on the personal emotional attachment to the music

Thank you for your comment and your work!
Hi
Good question. Its the music that sparks her for short periods of time, Mom has been diagnosed as in her end stages... she can no longer take care of any of her needs... she needs to be feed, toileted, dressed, she is unable to walk and is wheel chair bound, she can no longer even give hug, or state her needs. On occasion she can say a few words, but rarely can she string more then a couple together and then they usually don't make sense...Now days she is capable of even less engagement.
I created this video of Barbara Lee with Lori LeBay and her mom. I am so pleased that as of today there have been over 60,757 viewers. Lori has committed her life to helping those families dealing with Alzheimer's Disease. www.AlzheimersSpeaks.com
Well if it was good for her it was good for me. I didn't mean to insult, its just a sad song. God Bless you and your family.
welcome to the world of dementia. It's a very fun and exciting place to be with cutting edge development going on all over the world! I will be launching the first international resource website on dementia shortly. If you are following me on twitter, the blog, facebook or linkedin you will be kept int he loop! Thanks for taking the time to write!
OH I'm so sorry you didn't have the opportunity for more smiles, but please don't beat yourself up. My guess is your mom wouldn't want you to do that to yourself. I'm sure you did the best you could with the knowledge you had at the time. Moving forward, pass on to others whatever you have learned and embrace the smiles you did share.
@zuniga6412
Why thank you. My Mom is a cutie isn't she? She just turned 83 on jan 1st and still reacts to music. Not near as much, but she still tries.
Lori
HI Riley Yes my Mother is still with us. She just turned 84 on New Years Day! You might want to check out my blog for more stories about Mom and our journey with her and her dementia. I can't add the link here as it will reject my message but got to Alzheimers Speaks and you can click on the blog I did a few stories and videos of her since Thanksgiving I think you and your family might find helpful. My Mom has been in her end stages over 3 years now. Good luck and thanks for writing!
Lori
Maybe it wasn't a good song choice for you but it was for my Mother. She knew the words and enjoyed singing it. Now of these videos are not about us. They are about what brings the person with dementia joy. Sorry you didn't care for it.
ME TOO!!!
i am dealing with my dad with alz right how can i help him ?
Hi Mary
Thanks for writing. Can you shot me a private email via my website contact button on Alzheimer's Speaks and tell me a bit more about your dad. How long has he been diagnosed, what type of dementia, what stage or symptoms is he having.... that way I'll have a better idea on how I can assist you.
haha, I'm crying...
What a choice of songs ! Not Good !
