I found this show by chance on Netflix and became addicted to it. I've binge-watched it many times. I'm an "English" but I absolutely love it! Actors are wonderful.
This program is just wonderful. My only complaint is I was hoping for 15 episodes instead of 9. Wonderful actors and plot. Hope they will have a Season 4.
This is TORTURE! I can't wait - this is one of the best shows I have ever watched - so heart-warming, intelligent and full of life! I have been watching seasons 1+2 for the 3rd time!! My husband thinks I am crazy...meanwhile I am fluent in Hebrew :-D

I have just finished Season 3. Having wiped away my tears, I just want to say, this season went to a new level. I thank and congratulate the writers and actors and everyone else who helped make this - but particularly the writers. There is rarely such profound truths found except in the best literature and philosophy. As they sang in another favourite of mine: "A blessing on your head, etcetcetc"

Elliot B I have the impression a lot gets lost in translation. My knowledge of English, French and even German is most of the time good enough not to have to rely on the subtitles, but Hebrew and Yiddish are a bit out of my League 😆
This is my favorite film coming of out Israel. Period. Nothing comes close. As an artist, I have to say Bar Shtisel is...a soul we all relate to: Misunderstood. Unheard...powerless, yet sitting at the inflection point of what? Justice, reality? I don't know. He's just there...at that point. THIS is the essence. Bravo!
It's fantastic. The deeper into it you get, the more you fall in love with it...and the people. As an artist, I am holding my breath, however. We all know our hero can't live without his art.
How i always liked Rabbi Shulem's character but episode 9 showed that he himself is lonely and a selfish person. This is indeed the best show I have watched on Netflix.
At first I thought I would never get interested in this show. And progressively in fell in love with it... This is probably the best character development work I have ever seen in a series (other one would be breaking bad). The actors are beyond amazing and their storylines so well thought and touching. Truly a jewel, can’t wait for a season 4.
After going through the first two seasons like an addiction, this time I am allowing myself one episode a week so I can linger inside this story and characters. Thanks for the amazing writing and to the actors who bring these people to life.

Seasons 1 & 2 I give five stars out of five. Season 3 gets four. Funny note about season 3. At the end of episode 2, Doron kills the main Hamas operative. I'm thinking, "WTF? He killed the main bad guy and there are ten episodes to go!" I didn't realize the direction the story would take.
Unorthodox paints ultra orthodox religious Jews in a poor light based on one persons trauma and messed up childhood ir may be a good series but it’s far from reality. Shtisel is a lot more Authentic

I find myself humming the theme and incidental music of this series all the time, as well as occasionally muttering things to myself like 'Ken, ken, beseder, beseder, Kultov, bokhashem' etc.
I am waiting to see Shulem get married - but I am certain this will never happen as he will always find a reason not to commit himself and forever stay faithful to his beloved Dvoire!

I was lucky enough to finish season 1 and 2 yesterday... just in time to watch season 3! Great actors and fascinating world I was in Israel many times when I was very young but never peered into such an inner-looking society

This season is really brilliant. The writing of many episodes is so good, you have to remind yourself you're watching it on TV. (And, needless to say, Shira Haas, has developed into an incredibly talented, subtle actress.) As one example of the writing, there's a story arc with a TV show within the TV show subplot that at first is just fun and comic (like Seinfeld episodes about them creating a show like Seinfeld), but then develops into making (what, to me was) a profound point about the dangers of fantasy.

Shitsel got my husband and I through quarantine lockdown for many reason. We are Jewish and it truly meant alot to us.
