Hi James, that is a lovely kit! It is still manufactured today, by a model railway company called Dapol. It no longer comes in the nice box, instead in a plastic bag.
James has always been the most internet and media savvy of all of them. his persona on Top Gear was honestly an injustice comparted to how he is on literally anything else
My god, my soul almost left my body after laughing way too hard at that ending. It reminds me of the older videos where I crank it up the audio to the max. I am so proud of James right now.
This is just brilliant ! I don't know how you do it, but I have to say that you've been the funniest person I've seen in a while. Such a great taste in humor ! Looking forward for more content Bim :D
Ya know, I remember watching a show hosted by James May and it was a series that covered the history of a specific toy in each episode. I remember watching it with my mom and after we watched the airfix episode, we went to the hobby shop and picked a 1/72 scale tank. I don't remember if it was a Sherman or a Churchill but I remember how that episode had inspired me to start building models, all the way up until now when I'm working on the bugger 1/35th scale tanks and 1/48th scale planes e.t.c. Thank you James May for being a wonder inspirational figure 😁
Just discovered this channel and the first video i watch ends with the audio quality of 300£ worth of stereo for me tunes. Well, that was 1,55 mins of fun!
Takes me back to my childhood. My dad had a great train set with quite a few engines. This one was my favourite. Always reliable and didn't derail as easy as the bigger ones. :)
This kit is 00 Gauge, and looks quite good on any small shunting layout. Still made by Dapol. Though, Hornby make a ready to run motorised one if you want to save the effort. In full size, they are officially the Lancashire & Yorkshire Class 21, but everyone calls them Lanky Pugs.
Hope you sanded and filled the joint lines, James. You'll get better decal adhesion by clear coating over the paint, applying decals, then clear coating over 👍🏼
@@jmsunemploymenttube9191 A trick with ancient decals that may crack etc...... You can brush on some clear decal solution (available from Hannants) over them before allowing to dry; then release them in water as usual. Or buy some aftermarket decals (usually more expensive than the kit 😂👍🏼).....
I motorised one of these, back in the early 1990's, using Romford axles, wheel & brass axle bushes The motor and worm were in the cab and even made it DCC with a Hornby Zero One chip in the cab. Painted it and then..... Dapol brought out a ready to run version a month later. I still have my motorised Airfix Pug and it still runs all these years later. I also have the Dapol version, but the one I built myself will always be the special one for me.
I'm just working my way through the building process of the Airfix Spitfire and yes, it is fiddly! Still I think it's somehow relaxing and comforting... love these videos!! Hoping for more to come!
Looks like a nice model. Would be fun to see you paint these step by step. As for that music blast at the end....... I will say my ears are definitely unemployed now.
if anyone is wondering, the underlying meaning of these videos is that if you are after the experience of making an airfix kit, then watching videos of people putting them together instead of doing it yourself is pointless, because it deprives you of the _EXPERIENCE_ of building it. this applies to all things, the entire spectrum of recreational activities, from airfix to sexual intercourse.
Love how he bleeped himself with the first chime of Big Ben's bells (Elizabeth Tower/Clock Tower bells, whichever you prefer :p) seems very May-ish of him.
Got one of these in the very same box. Only difference is I made it soon after buying it. One day, in perhaps another 40 years, I’ll get round to painting it.
I had many airfix kits as a child, ships, aircraft but my favourite were the engines. My lovely father built then as extras on my train layout and they all moved Happy days Thank you Dad xx
Bimfilms Express! I had one of these as probably my first model as a kid; Miss the box more than kit however; dapol still makes the kit in a bag like the box was missing
I’ve been restoring a Atlas Industrial Lathe from the 1950’s. Trying to find the proper parts that are in good working order has been madding. Hopefully I can be back to work soon full time
I'd like to invite you to drive my 3 1/2 inch gauge live steam locomotive once lockdown is done with, I'm near shaftesbury and our society track is in Westbury. Kind Regards.
Dr. May, Bim, if I May, it is a pleasure to be subscribed to your personal UA-cam channel. Thank you very much for making nice programmes that entertain and educate.
James, that was very nice, but an LNER P2 might present a bit more of a challenge. I would recommend assembling one if you can ever get your hands on one.
I bet the unmade kit/box collectors have all had heart attacks, watching this😲😄😄 They are a fiddly kits, I cut mine up and used it for 7mm Narrow Gauge loco parts (0-16.5)😄😄✌️💜☮️😲😄 Looks like JM is a half decent modeller, if really good, the moulded hand rails should be substituted for wire ones😉😉😉😄😄😇
All jokes aside that looks really nice, as a fellow modeller I am enjoying this series! Currently working on a 1:72 RAF EE Lightning F.6 from malta/cyprus myself
James really went on iMovie and did 500% volume at the end there
Yep, even the intro card
Oh no James has discovered the art of earrape
I need James to tell me to like and subscribe, and to ring the notification bell!
That was unexpected
oh cock
The future will be quite interesting now that this history changing history event has occured
at this rate we will be getting YT Poops made by James
I had headphones on and just crapped myself at the end of the video

Why do my ears have to suffer like this James? It was just calm and peaceful and the Outro came out of nowhere to ruin it all...

Make the parts on your lathe.
You need another lathe to make the parts and then perhaps a milling machine as well and then some more space for all the stuff..
