Main Street/Route 71 Drawbridge Opening 8/30/14

- While taking the train down to Belmar, I noticed while crossing the Shark River Drawbridge that the Ocean Avenue drawbridge was raised. I figured that there must be some boat traffic heading into the river, so I hightailed it over to the Main Street/Route 71 drawbridge. I made it with time to spare, and at 2:30, the traffic lights started to change. There were a lot of boats that had to come through, so the bridge was opened for nearly 10 minutes.
I just got stopped at this bridge the other day while at work. It’s a shame I was at the back of the line. I really wanna take a day and just do some filming of some of these draw bridges

Nice how the idiots at the end starting driving through from the other side while the traffic light was still red!
I've seen enough people running red lights that it doesn't surprise me at all.

It's actually a WCH bell. I don't know of any drawbridge that uses Modern Industries bells.
Sounds like it uses a Safetran gong
Lol anyone notice that the gates look exactly like swords!! Might as well sword fight them!
Almost thought that gate looked like an electric power line pole with the cross arm ( the gray metal part) when it was standing straight up and look like an sword for sure when it came down
It's kinda weird that there's no specific pedestrian stop light, like a red man, or a flashing red wigwag for the footpath...
Stop lights specifically for sidewalks aren't very common at drawbridges in New Jersey.

I think the bells just sound whenever the arms activate. It keeps the wiring simple.
To let people know the bridge is raising when they look at their phones.

I think a red-light camera would be effective here, if not for the peds.
That fat seagull up on the streetlight had a really good vantage point. And as soon as the show was over, he took off, no doubt looking for someone to $#!t on.
