Vallis and swords is a long-standing favourite combo for me. I rescaped a jungle tank this weekend using those two plants with a feature piece of wood in the middle. Great minds and all that 😂

I need to break down my 29 g that is my 1st venture into aquascaping, I see my mistake on the substrate - too thick and tho I did do the smell test, I think my soil had gone off in the bottom. My hard scape fell over, so I had to fiddle with that... I'm just not happy with it. I'm glad i watch YOU because you made me realize anything can be fixed, redone, etc... so many thanks for making me realize it's not that big of a deal to fix or just redesign tanks, lol.AND I am learning from my mistakes! And, I just asked my husband if our shop vac is wet as well as dry, it is, so I'll be able to expedite getting the bottom cleaned out so I can clean and reuse. Thank the tank gods for that! Lol

So often we put 'schooling fish' into a tank and they don't really school but the red-eyes are absolutely fulfilling the brief
I find they will school in a new scape great until they feel more comfortable and then not so much
I think it’s because of the bigger fish in the tank with them

Hi just would like to say thanks bought all the goodies new superfish 45 scaper tank,nutribase,pond soil,api tabs set it up,loaded it with plants. I also used the quick start and all clear. Best aquarium I've ever had 9 weeks old looks absolutely brilliant once again thanks. 8:50

Looks great. Try placing a Vallisneria or likewise right at the front of the tank. That will create great depth.

That aquarium would look great with a pair of Festive cichlids (Mesonauta insignis). They are a very different shape and colour, and I think they would really complement the other fish. Splendid aquascape too!

Awesome video! At 24:34, the wood placed on top of the wall looks just like a Corydoras - such a cool detail! By the way, the aquascaping is fantastic and the plant selection really complements the fish.

Loving your work MD and have been since the days of your shed in the garden! I’ve been thinking about how you use API’s Root Tabs and your comment about using a tab whole, for when you need to push it through the substrate in an established set up. Isn’t this more to do with how, as a tab, nutrients will be released over a longer period of time - a slow-release fertiliser? So if you crush the tabs, as you do, a high level of nutrients will be released over a short period of time (probably a good thing for a new set-up?) because the ‘dust’ having a large surface area will break down more quickly than a tab. Therefore, in a new set up would it be a good idea to use a combination of some crushed tabs, some in quarters, some halves, and some whole? This way you get some initial nutrient boost thanks to the dust and the smaller pieces, along with some nutrients that are released over a longer period of time, from the tab. Potential new products for API could include ‘Root Dust’ and ‘Root Granules’ to go with their ‘Root Tabs’. Just a thought. Keep up the good work.

You should keep your new wood in water and swap it out every now and then. Save you dealing with the tannins on a tank by tank basis.
What happen to the catfish that where in that tank?
I was going to ask this as well. I think the catfish were a great addition.

After watching your channel for months and months I finally set up a planted gorgeous community tank. I accidentally named 3 of my fish even though I know your advice not to. It’s so hard when you have unique fish. My SAE is so active my niece named him George Fishington and we all just say omg look at crazy George swimming around like a nut or eating my plants again 😂 of course my Betta follows me everywhere and HAD to have a name lol I also named my catfish Fido cause I found it funny 😂

I don´t see any API products in The Netherlands but my lfs recently started selling a range of all in one fertiliser products I am already using and the nutri capsules are quite affordable. But the Colombo nutri base also works very well for me.
