@Ashley Yeah, people are being propagated by the us. Nk is still a pretty shifty place.
@Space Monkey No they aren't Indias gdp per capita is higher and India also has access to the global markets to trade so Indians are objectively better off.
My personal favorite propaganda video was 1 where it showed a homeless camp during winter and said all Americans eat birds and snow.

@@scottishseal631 Defectors, google maps, and journalists that have managed to capture rare footage. Pyongyang is definitely modern for the most part, but they are also reserved for the elites, such as government officials, state owned businesses, and talents the government use for propaganda.
There is actually slums and deteriorating buildings in Pyongyang too. The famous railway station when seen from google maps show a rusted roof behind the beautiful street-side exterior. Of course every country have slums in their biggest city, but just pointing out that NK do have such problems. In fact it is more prevalent when you consider the outskirts are in much worse conditions.
The reasons are numerous. They were better off back when the USSR was around since they got support from them. But another reason is the sanctions which greatly harmed the quality of life. There's also the obvious mismanagement of the government. Instead of building better housing and public infrastructure for their people, they build empty hotels in Pyongyang to show off to the world. However all of this is quite ironic since north Korea promotes Junche which is a ideology of national self-reliance. A good thing that every country should have some of, but in the modern world, it just isn't realistic to be fully self-reliant.

A genuine question: how can North Korea have a channel on UA-cam, an American company? I thought there were serious restrictions on US companies providing services to entities located in that country.
My guess is that the videos are uploaded through a third country, or the North Koreans use a vpn
My guess is North Korea is not making money from the channel. So it may not be considered "trading"?
its actually quite the opposite, US would love to weaponize platforms like youtube or twitter to spread their message to north korean people.
Well even Kim Jongun would like some US products and other western countries one. And guess not all N koreans could use UA-cam but only some entitled classes. Or possibly some brave and fearless folks could use VPN?

One thing could debunk this all. All she talks abt is life in Pyongyang. Unless the DPRK is a city state (which it's not), the DPRK is probably just caring abt Pyongyang and letting other cities die off.
If the DPRK is trying to change its international image by targeting a younger audience with a “Rick Steves Best of Europe” vibe, does that mean that the vlogs will be part of an integrated approach to more liberal economic policies in the future-to encourage more foreign investment and tourism dollars? Or is it literally an isolated façade to improve external PR without any sign of substantive internal changes-a soft power move to distract us from what’s really going on in the country? Past experience favors the latter...Any thoughts?
Maybe they want to change their ways who knows? I hope one day North Korea becomes a peaceful and rich country.
