Why because they made you act right and do the things pleasing to God and not your own personal interests??? And truth be told they don't make you do anything that you don't want to do. They never did me when I was attending their services. All the did was read from the Bible and as for the watchtower, they never forced it on me. Sure they would read from it from time to time but every religion has it's propaganda that they want you to read. And theirs follows mostly along with the Bible. Don't freak out on me, I said most not all but most of it did follow along with the Bible, but I never listened to any of the propaganda anyway, i only listened to what the Bible said. And they weren't wrong about who God is and who and what Jesus was. Jesus was the Angel of the LORD Jehovah and he isn't God Almighty. Jehovah is. And I don't care if you want to call him Jehovah or YHWH or Yahweh or Yod-He-Waw-He or Yehovah or even its still not Jesus. Or Yeshua.

Same here, I was never abused, but from a year old until I was 15 I was brought up as a JW. I eventually told my mum I'd move out at 16 if she kept forcing her beliefs on me and my brother. Now I'm in my mid 30s and when I look back at that time, it ruined my life for much of my childhood. My mum eventually left too, but still i dont fully forgive her for doing that to her children.

I was raised in the Jehovah's Witnesses - my experience was very similar to this - awful, just awful - and one of my friends (16,m) was being repeatedly s-domiz-d by an adult (30s)male in the congregation. My friend's father was a high-status Elder in the congregation, and my friend was all-in on being the perfect young Witness, constantly preaching, giving talks, etc. My friend couldn't cope with what was happening to him and jumped in front of a speeding truck. As if this wasn't bad enough the Elders in the congregation decided to try to bury the fact that he took his own life, instead spinning it as 'an accident.' His own father went along with this lie.
A couple of months later however another young lad in the congregation told his father (not a JW) about the same predator preying on him. This father instead paid a visit to the person, and then took him for a stroll through a local graveyard, telling him that he could either 'do it himself,' or the father would be around the next day to help him. The predator took his own life that night, so I guess Jehovah does work in mysterious ways.
This cult ruined my childhood, alienated me, and robbed me of vital socialization and development.

I was a member of the JW community when I was young for a while. My father started to see that something was wrong with me too. It was one of the members that originally convinced my dad to join. My father went to the head of the church’s community and was about to go to the police when they urged him to just forgive the man and ignore what happened to me. My dad raged out and after the police investigation we left the church. Some issue as the FLDS and Mormons and all religious communities. They just want you to let your kid get abused and be quiet to protect the church over the safety of the poor kids.

Its funny that you people have forgotten about another incident that happened recently and they made over 300 arrest for over 700 episodes of child abuse. Wow!! I wouldn't just be here bashing Jehovah's Witnesses for a few episodes of child abuse when you got 700 cases at multiple Baptist churches. Child abuse as bad as it is. Is ramped among all religions. Not just Jehovah's Witnesses. Read it below 👇
The issue at hand is the release by the SBC of a 205-page document naming hundreds of Baptist leaders and members accused or found guilty of sexual abuse of children. The list, which includes 700 entries on cases between 2000 and 2019, was released after a bombshell third-party investigation by Guidepost Solutions said the convention’s leaders in its executive committee failed the public and its community by mishandling sexual abuse cases and mistreating victims and survivors.

      The church isn’t the parent.
It’s funny how ex-JW’s realize the organization has no real power yet they still think that the organization reporting crimes is any different that Joe blow on the corner reporting a crime.
JW’s are actually smart for not reporting hours to further separate themselves from liability to what happens to you out in service. No paper trail.
That way when your kid gets fiddled on the car rides or you get “unalived” doing D2D work at least the organization can say “we don’t require people to go preaching, they decided to do that on their own!”
      🤌🏾
JW’s are rejoicing on not reporting time but I’m pretty sure it has something to do with that guy who was shot out in service.

Their application of needing 2 eye witnesses to verify Child abuse is completely distorted and twisted, and here's why:
For example, the command found at Deut 19:15-21 deals with transgressions that could be VERIFIED with 2-3 witness--requiring 2 eye witnesses for child abuse does NOT fall into Deut 19:15-21, because it can' never be verified with 2 eye witnesses--that will NEVER happen.
Example: Numbers 5:11-31 deals with a case when a Husband suspected his wife was unfaithful to him--and she denies it, 'and there is no witness against her, and she was not caught in the act', the Torah commanded the Husband to take his wife to the Kohenim (priests) and a commandment was given to which the equivalent today you can think of as a 'medical examination', and whether or not she had been unfaithful to him would then come to light. The point I'm getting at is the Kohenim/priests would never have said 'just put it behind you and move on' or you have to learn to deal with it'. This is the reason why the JWs are wreacking havoc on so many lives of innocent victims, because of their twisted misunderstanding of what is actually being said.
To anyone in that church I say to you this: Per Lev 5:1, you are just as guilty as the perpetrators, and that's because you support them. Shame, Shame, Shame on those people!

I actually have a co-worker who is a JW, and while he "inherently" seems like a nice person, he seems to be so adamantly stubborn in his ideals. Like, he is never willing to keep an open mind to other things. Mind you, i honestly dont challenge him nor do i even bring up the topic of religion, i always stay away from talking about the two "no no" topics (religion and politics, except with family and very close friends) but he constantly brings up religion even when i try to steer the conversation to some other topic. The very few times i would "slip in" a somewhat challenging question, there was never a "hmmm, well maybe your right or hmmm thats interesting, let me think about it or refer to the bible for more clarity". So from personal experience, JW seem to be obnoxiously stubborn and unwilling to maintain an open mind to other possibilities. And at leat with the case of my co-worker, he never seems to get tired of bringing it up and trying to convert me, i think he thinks im still a potential convert because i have never shown anger with him, and im not confrontational. What's worse, is unlike the individual in the video, my co-worker converted to JW omce he was alaready a grown man from what he told me, like late 20s early 30s.

I was never forced to do anything I didn't want to. My parents are still JW. I still have a great relationship with them. I eventually stopped participating because I didn't have interest or a connection with anything being taught. There are good people, sadly the bad people always outnumber the good people.
I know a lot of people that I am still friends with that have gone through so much. The way things are set up with parents having so much dominion over their children they were always afraid to speak up. Speaking up would either be ignored or the elders wouldn't actually fix the issue. I have so many friends that have psychological trauma due to growing up in the religion that they're still dealing with. I've also lost a couple of friends due to suicide from feeling ashamed and being exiled. Just like with LDS/Mormons, Catholics, and Christians, things won't change until a lot of internal cleansing/terminations happen.

Witnesses are indoctrinated to believe that fellow witnesses are superior to everyone else and they always have your best interests in mind. It doesn’t cross their minds that their fellow witnesses can be evil and/or cover up evil. If you bring up anything that goes against their doctrine you’ll be labeled an apostate and most likely lose your family, friends and in many cases also your livelihood and housing because witnesses usually work and live with other witnesses. Even if people inside the cult know bad things are happening in most cases they’re too scared to do or say anything about it.

This is the kind of documentaries that must be made, that really bring things to light that are hidden from the mass media. About that boy said, i felt something was robbed from me, like not dating in youth or celebrating birthdays.
These emotional abuses things arent the same as sexual(not negating the abuse this boy went through) or physical abuse or starvation, but it creates a strange void and rage.
Vice, please make more of this. Not that these truecrime are trending lately, but these docus at least compul us to not flinch away from the rotting part of society. And i remember vice being a media to not be afraid of showing them.
Hopefully these violations in organised social settings and institutions be brought to light and let there be more transparency everywhere.

Man, growing up as a Witness, there was no baptism. I was a Witness because my family were Witnesses except my father who didn’t really follow anything. They preached doomsday and were slammed in the papers when it didn’t happen and they didn’t acknowledge Jesus, only the Old Testament. They flipped on a dime to make themselves appealing and stories of abuse was rampant. My sister knows this all too well. They dropped us after we needed help spiritually and emotionally. They couldn’t even help themselves. I was lost but found Jesus but backslid and know I’m back with Jesus and He’s keeping me going. Root out abuse everywhere and I’ll be praying for that kid and all victims to overcome and thrive and their abusers to be brought to justice.

I was very abused physically, verbally, mentally, and emotionally by my mother, and sexually abused by one of my family members. I went and told the elders, and they told me I had to allow it. God would punish them. Well it never stoped, so I left. I still have God in my heart. But not any religion. I have PTSD now that caused me to have seizures.

Really curious as to what part was 'nothing like he described'? Jws not being able to celebrate much in order to stay away from those they consider worldly is the norm. You might have some parents who are okay with those kids going to colleges as long as they're vocational or local community colleges, but you are actively discouraged from pursuing higher education. There might be some parents who are more lenient with their kids and let them do things like go to school dances or watch things like Harry Potter and Lord of the rings, but again as a whole this is what the faith pushes. So what was your experience?

The difficult part is actually wanting to di good in the hall and having hypocrisy of elders family members overlooked and trying to keep joy do the right thing but bascially punished or mistreated or misjudged because you may just be the one who will reveal or report instances of whats wrong. I.e. a prominent elder in one hall has a big family and he has children that have broken the rules - covering over the misconduct between their non baptized grandson and another elders daughter rushing said grandson to get baptized and fast tracked inorder to cover over itall . Then having a son who is an unregestered offender- in witness jargon "cant be with a child alone". Which esentially means it was handled in-house and not reported to legal. They get all the prominence and bulldoze over anyone who may be a threat to them with rumors .
