Something I haven't seen mentioned in any Mario Galaxy Iceberg yet is the fact that Luigi has extra dialogue that references the player's death, specifically in the mission where you rescue him from a bug in Honeyhive Galaxy. If you rescue him, fall into a black hole, then rescue him again, he references hearing a scream. It's such a weird obscure detail that I feel like most players wouldn't ever encounter unless they were messing around. I remember finding it really funny when I was a kid.
That’s not the only time Luigi’s dialogue changes upon the players death. In good egg galaxy he’ll say something like “what are you doing? The fate of the universe is at stake” and in battlerock he’ll say about how you tried to leave him out in space Unfortunately in ghostly you can’t die when you talk to Luigi so you can’t get any text. There is also no unused text that was put there by mistake because the writers thought you would die (in other words I was hoping for a situation like the fact there’s text in TTYD for goombella, koops and flurrie going into the major league even though you can only have the mini yoshi say anything about going into the major league) Interesting what that line could’ve been and even just those 3 lines are a neat Easter egg
Oh? I actually did not know this, and I like to consider myself a Galaxy expert, so I tested that out on my Switch and whaddaya know, you were right! He says: "Are you OK?! I thought I heard a scream..." A bit creepy, but also really interesting at the same time!
Oh yeah I remember thinking that too. In captain toad (the game) if you get damaged captain toad's head looks just like a super mushroom that Mario eats
Anyone ever find it off putting that toads eat mushrooms? Even if toads and mushrooms are separate species (duh) they’re obviously biologically similar if not related
@@WarioTimeWarioTimeWarioTime in the super Mario tv show those mushroom heads were hats. But Nintendo changed it to their actual head so it is a bit weird
Dude you litterally forgot the only single theory I knew before watching this video : The penguin conquest (idk it's official name). Penguins are among the only few NPC to show up in several galaxy, and in almost every single galaxy that contains cute penguins, there are ruins of ancient civilizations. Maybe these are from the civilizations that lived here before the evil non-flying birds took over these places. Maybe these penguins are on pace to dominate the entire universe, who knows...
BROOOO nahhhh, I had no clue about that theory, it wasn't on either of the icebergs man but I love that theory. Tbh it couldve even work for a short 10 or 15 minutes video now I think about it... thanks for watching and mentioning such a cool theory man!
So so happy to see this video made! Thank you for the kind words and taking the same interest as me in exploring a hugely popular game suspiciously lacking in good deep-dive content! Can't wait to binge this!
Hello, I want to make a suggestion, I don't know how well known it is but when I was playing super Mario Galaxy 1, I found something about water that I didn't see on this iceberg, I call it "swan dive" if you go near an edge that has water at the bottom and just press A, Mario and/or Luigi will preform a swan dive into the water, I only remember doing it on Luigi
About where galaxy 2 takes place in the timeline - it doesn't. It's revealed in the secret ending that the entire game was a story being told by rosalina to the lumas. So basically, it's rosalina's own interpretation/retelling of what mario was getting up to while he was saving the universe from bowser, while she was in the observatory. That's why the opening cutscenes are storybook themed! I remember as a kid thinking mario was 100 years old tho lmao
The Red Toad is absolutley the captain. His headlamp is off because it's programmed to kill boos like any spotlight, which you see in action in Deep Dark's purple coin level. He's next to a Boo mushroom, so he'd be blazing you out of it if he had his lamp.
I never knew that’s why the songs for Ghostly Galaxy, and, by extension, the Ghost Houses in Super Mario 3D Land/World started with those notes, I thought it was just to be atmospheric. That’s really cool actually!
Man i've been playing smg in the french version since I got the game and I never knew that the little mustache-mario-rosalina's father easter egg was exclusive to this version!!
If I remember correctly, in the spanish version (EU) Rosalina mentions that she misses touching her father's BEARD...which is kinda similar to the french version. I don't recall her saying anything about moustaches tho (my memory is kinda bad tho...childhood game), but I wonder if it has something to do with the theory.
Tbh isn’t the grand finale galaxy sorta also like representing what should’ve been from the tutorial just a nice star festival. And it makes sense since at the end of the game a new universe was made so it’s just a possible iteration where everything went normally
when first playing, I expected that UFO from the start of the game to end up being a level. a few weeks after finishing the game I realized that UFO never got an explanation or level and got hella confused lol
51:35 Ohmigosh, I'm one of the people that helped out with that video! You did a great job of explaining the cannonball coin spawning logic, and I'm honestly honored to have indirectly helped in the production of this iceberg analysis. This is so cool!

Interesting so far. Might add any notes I have while watching here 3:40 it’s worth noting that “Hell Valley” likely isn’t directly referencing hell, but instead a Japanese hot spring known as “hell valley” 7:45 the skybox also actually seems to originate from Wind Waker 15:15 It seems as though a full game being referred to as “Super Mario 128” was teased during a 2005 interview, with a new character, a different name, and a heavy influence on the Wii’s design. Later, in 2006, 128 was described as moreso being testing ideas, so if that really was a Mario game that spawned from 128 being teased, it’s likely that was Galaxy 34:50 it is worth noting that the reference to a “miniature band” is a funny coincidence considering Galaxy has an orchestral soundtrack, and “any game from past consoles” does sound like Virtual Console as well. The Wii isn’t quite able to display THAT many colours, and it’s actually only a 32-bit console, with them only going back to 64 with the Switch 35:48 they may have been referring to a specific one in Galaxy 2, in Melty Monster Galaxy IIRC, where the weird skybox can still be seen if you leave it 43:25 I think there’s another side to Galaxy 2’s skyboxes (although Galaxy 1 had some similar cases) that you sort of touched upon earlier, being areas like Melty Molten Galaxy, Flash Black Galaxy, Slipsand (and Clockwork Ruins) Galaxy, Bowser’s Galaxy Generator and Hightail Falls Galaxy, where you’re surrounded by massive structures or landforms that absolutely dwarf you and everything around you, creating this bizarre environment that feels alien with it’s unimaginable scale There was a bit of this in Galaxy one, but it’s definitely stronger in Galaxy 2. Combined with the numerous other skyboxes that seemingly position you above a planet that stretches all the way into the horizon, which also were decently common in the first game, it feels like they shifted their focus from the vast emptiness of space to environments that feel massive and alien, like a place you weren’t meant to go 53:38 I love that you may have accidentally showcased a smaller quirk just as you finished explaining all that, as we see a coin land on top of the electric fence 54:30 “regular” excluding the ones in toad town, like the soldier(?) Toads (honestly, although it doesn’t really stick out when you’re playing, the idea of Toads wielding a weapon feels bizarre. It makes sense for there to be royal guards, but it still feels strange seeing toads being armed with weapons for some reason, probably because they don’t particularly seem that combat-inclined) 1:00:45 I hate to say it, but I think it’s also possible that this is just the point in the iceberg where they start throwing in random creepy stuff they made up to make it spookier. Your “1995 build do not research” or whatnot. 1:12:36 Tuxie is a similar size as well in SM64
I'll add my own iceberg entry. the slimy cave galaxy in smg2 is like a metaphor for depression. I always thought that level felt especially lonely, cold and unwelcoming, even creepy, yet we fight through it and keep pushing until we get to the end where we are rewarded with a star and that beautiful view. the whole level feels like a journey.
Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite game of all time. I thoroughly enjoyed this video, it was really well explained and entertaining, thank you so much for this and I hope to see more of your videos in the future!
Just finished watching it - what a ride! Weirdly surreal hearing the theories I've read and discussed on tiny message threads and amongst friends for years be so well analysed in a proper video - feels like a tick off the bucket list! Some small expansions I can provide as iceberg creator! - with Good Egg's Egg Hatching, this actually refers to the GIANT yoshi egg planet, not Dino Piranha's Egg - I heard rumours over the years there was a hidden way to break it open and reveal a giant yoshi, possibly also with the blue star inside! - the Super Jump entry actually refers to the glitch seen in the Deep Dark Dev Pipe entry, it's a complex maneuver mainly seen in the max coin runs of the game that manipulates slight clips into geometry allowing the player to be sent ludicrously high into the air - on that note, if anyone wants to do more research into Galaxy, ABSOLUTELY check out the Golden Block's max coin video, it's a great watch. As someone who's done a max% coin run of Galaxy the challenge is ludicrously hard and fun! That's all! Loved the video, can't wait for more, thanks for featuring my nerdy little assembly of facts for this amazing game!!
My good man there is no Luigi playthrough of Galaxy 2, Luigi is simply a playable character you can swap to in Galaxy 2, before beating the game it's RNG whether he spawns or not and after he has his own room on the Starship Mario
Thanks for dropping this comment my freind, it had been a while since I'd hopped on galaxy 2 so my memory must've been hazey when I wrote that section. Thanks for watching 👍
How are the most obscure channels often the ones that upload the most interesting videos? I loved this one. I love Galaxy and Galaxy 2 and I love exploring every single detail of these games. This video was awesome, keep it up!
1:09:28 This is so cool! I thought it was just a case of the Mandela effect. I have 2 separate childhood memories of trying to fly into the hungry Luma portals and having it work one time, but not the other.
I believe you have to spawn the launch star by talking to the Luma to make it work, from what I remember (I also did this as a kid). If you look closely, the portals actually move closer when you do so.
Another great iceberg exploration by you, I loved being able to learn information I never knew about in one of my favourite games and the descent into more obscure territory was paced and handled perfectly. I can't wait for more of your videos soon
36:13 These were so mysterious for me as a kid. I always thought that those are planets with mission I still need to somehow uncover and I spent days mapping out a way to get there with my trusted pen and paper.
Cosmic Luigi is a speed runner through and through. The game gives you a few instances to pass him in each bit in the loop galaxy he only makes 3 mistakes in a perfect run, and 2 of those mistakes are small ones so you almost have to play perfect to beat him.
BEST VIDEO YET!!!! Mister.d never disappoints. The narration and script is the best of your videos by far and I loved the theories and mysteries surrounding of both Galaxy's gameplay and lore. The quality of this channel has come a long way and I know for sure you will reach the preposterous status as a youtube legend
Something I'd like to note about the Star Fragments entry at 36:25, which is that Star Fragments don't just appear in Animal Crossing, they also appear in Zelda as treasures that can be sold or traded. They debut in Spirit Tracks but are more well known for their appearance in BOTW and TOTK. Forgive me if someone already talked about this, but i couldn't find anything about it, so...
Hey, in drip drop galaxy the spaceship they are talking about isnt the one you are able to see. There is actually another one in the center of the planet almost no one knows about
I think what the "Ghostly Galaxy Sky" entry is referring too is that the same texture for the skybox ghosts was also used for the Ghost Ship in WindWaker. Also I have something that wasn't included in this video. When looking at BigMouth Galaxy from the universe map, it has a different skybox, seemingly the same one used in Space Junk Galaxy. Perhaps that image of the level was taken from earlier stage in it's development. Super Mario Broth has a screenshot of this on their website.
6:27 - I can't find any comments about it, but Olimar's ship is the S.S. Dolphin, not the Hocotate Freight ship that was used in Pikmin 2 and is the one that's referenced in Galaxy 1.
This is the best one of these Galaxy videos, the others disappointed me. I especially like how you put effort into the bottom of the iceberg instead of writing it off
How does bro only have 8k subs, when I first watched this iceburg video I thought it was so well made and was shocked that the channel only had 8k subs. Hope you keep up these types of videos and continue to grow your channel! Wish you the best on your youtube journey! :D
this was really good, I actually wanted to cover this iceberg but there’s no way I can do better than you did here good job edit: also one obscure entry that could have been here is the melty monster galaxy massive black void that appears when u enter the bowling challenge and then return to the starting planetoid, this one has always been pretty eerie tho its just a dev error
This has always been the ne of my favorite Mario games. Nice video man. (Heading my track for Angler Depths from 2kki used near the end caught me off guard)
For the multiple timeline thing i just think that luigi is playable in galaxy 2 cause mario is tired. Like come one, give this guy a well deserved break
16:40 I love stuff like that in skyboxes. In my sorta dream SMG game concept, it’d likely be its own galaxy that’d be a sort of haunted version of TTC from SM64 due to it looking to be a creepy clock tower. I’d likely use a lot of stuff on here. For example, the Starman Fort has its own enemies, which are small shadowy orbs with yellow eyes (which I’d likely explain as the “true form” of cosmic clones due to Cosmic Rosalina being able to take the form of an orb of energy and the cosmic clones having yellow eyes)
I literally can’t express how happy I am to hear someone else noticed the extra bright light at the observatory. I spent hours messing around with it and never found anything
The quiet sadness of super Mario Galaxy by Jacob Geller is one of the best video essays I’ve ever watched!! I’m glad that you recommended it so more people can find it :)
I just realised while playing Galaxy 2 that there's a level in Space Storm Galaxy called 'To the Top of Topman's Tower' and it resembles the Buoy Base Galaxy from the first game and it has the same music. So that likely confirms that the Topman Tribe do own the tower in Buoy Base Galaxy in Galaxy 1
@@anubion42 ohhhh yeah , the same goes for my laptop overheating throughout most the recordings. Your reply freaked me out because my actual fire alarm battery has been chirping the last 3 days for the first time in ages. Thanks for watching anyway, hope you enjoyed.
The reference to Jacob Geller came to my mind as soon as you brought the Solitude topic up, that is the video that got me to see his content literally becoming my favorite creator. I see that you are a man of culture as well not only for the reference but for making a Mario Galaxy vídeo in the first place, you earned a new subscriber.

The ship that you were talking about in the entry 'Olimar's Ship' resembles the Hocotate Ship more then Olimar's S.S. Dolphin, the Hocotate Ship belongs to the company Olimar works for.
This is an incredibly well made video, the amount of research to find so much information about each entry and to find all this footage must have been enourmous, so props to you! I've never watched this channel before but I'll check it out now, I just find it kinda upsetting that such an in depth and fascinating video has not as many view as it deserves but I hope the algorithm catches up to this in the future 'cause I know a lot of Super Mario Galaxy fans would love to see this. But this video reay shows how dedicated the developers were to create a deep world shrouded in misteries that would stimulate the curiousity of many player to find more about it. This game is comparable to Mario 64 in terms of mysteries and scope even if made years after it's still talked about as much as 64 and compared to other 3D marios it certaintly one of the most misterious. I've never seen anyone talking in depth about Odissey or Mario Sunshine as much as Galaxy and 64 which proves the everlasting impact of those games in the gaming comunity.
was finally able to see the grand finale about a year ago after managing to complete that one stupidly hard trash removal level in battlerock galaxy (yk the one)
Alternate black hole death actually refers to a glitch in Goldleaf Galaxy that causes you to continue the walking animation as you fall toward the black hole if done correctly.
1:26:47 I do have 3 theories in regards to what could be considered the star bunny's home, although they're mostly just speculation or stretches. 1) Due to the star bunnies essentially just being transformed Lumas (as shown in Gateway Galaxy's First mission), my first guess is that they could be referring to the Comet Observatory since it primarily showcases itself as the main home of the lumas with house-like structures for each room. 2) The house could be hidden either inside the trees or burrows of the Gold Leaf Galaxy. 3) The inhabitant of the house in Good Egg Galaxy could be the brother of this particular star bunny since it is the only house in SMG1 that has an unknown inhabitant who speaks to Mario (Although this could just be Bill Board's house, I prefer to stick with the Bill Board at 4:39 as an interaction placeholder for the real inhabitant). Again, this is purely just speculation as in SMG2, there is a star bunny who lives in a cabin in Freeze Flake Galaxy, while other starbunnies live in their own seperate colonies in galaxies such as Gold Leaf and Snow Cap Galaxy. The 2nd theory seems to be the closest to where the bunny's home is, but I find the 3rd theory to be more fun to think about.
Accidentally autoplayed onto this after watching some Link Rupee explanation, stayed for the really good intro music, and the good titling, well played one hour and forty four minute video
Same, except it autoplayed on a video talking about Wind Waker, which itself was autoplayed from a video where a guy tries to die as fast as possible in every zelda game
I'm pretty sure the text on the door in Good Egg Galaxy is meant to be from a note, even if we don't see one. The button prompt says "read" and the text is written on a paper background with wood behind it.
Whaaaat? I didn't know about this... that's so bizarrely interesting
That’s not the only time Luigi’s dialogue changes upon the players death. In good egg galaxy he’ll say something like “what are you doing? The fate of the universe is at stake” and in battlerock he’ll say about how you tried to leave him out in space
Unfortunately in ghostly you can’t die when you talk to Luigi so you can’t get any text. There is also no unused text that was put there by mistake because the writers thought you would die (in other words I was hoping for a situation like the fact there’s text in TTYD for goombella, koops and flurrie going into the major league even though you can only have the mini yoshi say anything about going into the major league)

I think it's just a part of the song he put in, because it appears multiple times.
I always thought that those are planets with mission I still need to somehow uncover and I spent days mapping out a way to get there with my trusted pen and paper.
one of the greatest iceberg videos i’ve ever seen. crazy this hasn’t gotten more attention. keep up the great work.
Cosmic Luigi is a speed runner through and through. The game gives you a few instances to pass him in each bit in the loop galaxy he only makes 3 mistakes in a perfect run, and 2 of those mistakes are small ones so you almost have to play perfect to beat him.
I love how so many games have their own "Load-bearing coconut" like tf2 supposedly had. In this case, Kinoko, the player mushroom.
This is one of the best icebrg videos ive seen idk how it hasent been promted on more people recommended. UA-cam is werid with recommendation
the first minute of this video feels like the video game dreams that i can’t describe, so thank you for encapsulating that feeling
Great video!
You have legit talent for this. Actual bloody masterpiece
That intro is so heat bro
Happy to see made an in depth iceberg on such a favorite of mine.
Very engaging video.
He's done it again. The GOAT 🐐
6:27 - I can't find any comments about it, but Olimar's ship is the S.S. Dolphin, not the Hocotate Freight ship that was used in Pikmin 2 and is the one that's referenced in Galaxy 1.
i cant beleive universal studios collaborated with you for your intro, its crazy when you think about it XD
I’ve been waiting for this for so long!!! YEAHHHH!!!
This is the best one of these Galaxy videos, the others disappointed me. I especially like how you put effort into the bottom of the iceberg instead of writing it off
Good video bro. I remember seeing the thumbnail on Reddit a few mounts back. Good job😊
How does bro only have 8k subs, when I first watched this iceburg video I thought it was so well made and was shocked that the channel only had 8k subs. Hope you keep up these types of videos and continue to grow your channel! Wish you the best on your youtube journey! :D
I love coming back to this video consistently for that intro. Something about it is nostalgic to me
this was really good, I actually wanted to cover this iceberg but there’s no way I can do better than you did here good job
edit: also one obscure entry that could have been here is the melty monster galaxy massive black void that appears when u enter the bowling challenge and then return to the starting planetoid, this one has always been pretty eerie tho its just a dev error
spooxa spotted
This has always been the ne of my favorite Mario games. Nice video man.
(Heading my track for Angler Depths from 2kki used near the end caught me off guard)
A fantastic iceberg video covering my favorite games! I'm surprised this only has 14k views; this is some super high quality content.
Awesome video! Thanks for making an Iceberg on my favorite game of all time!
He didn't make it tho. Just explained it
im pretty sure Lubba actually might be the purple comet as at the end of galaxy 2 Lubba mentions meeting Rosalina "again"
This is still one of the best iceberg videos ever created. What's the song at 47:41, it really fits the segments its used in and sounds amazing
For the multiple timeline thing i just think that luigi is playable in galaxy 2 cause mario is tired. Like come one, give this guy a well deserved break
Fantastic video, hope you make more. You nailed the atmosphere!
Glad the video finally came out. Super well researched, I learned some things I didn’t know.
Does nobody talk about the giant mill in Flash Black Galaxy in Galaxy 2? No? Just me? Okay.
Edit: IM SO HAPPY THE MILL WAS ON THE ICEBERG 😭😭
Amazing video! This video totally deserves more views and likes. Good work!!
I literally can’t express how happy I am to hear someone else noticed the extra bright light at the observatory. I spent hours messing around with it and never found anything
Awesome vid man looking forward to more
I don’t think anyone is living in the Good Egg Galaxy house. They way, it’s been worded makes it sound like nobody’s currently there
The quiet sadness of super Mario Galaxy by Jacob Geller is one of the best video essays I’ve ever watched!! I’m glad that you recommended it so more people can find it :)
I just realised while playing Galaxy 2 that there's a level in Space Storm Galaxy called 'To the Top of Topman's Tower' and it resembles the Buoy Base Galaxy from the first game and it has the same music. So that likely confirms that the Topman Tribe do own the tower in Buoy Base Galaxy in Galaxy 1
finally a super mario galaxy iceberg longer than 1h, amazing iceberg and video thank you for uploading this
This is a very high quality video, your underrated man. You’ve earned a sub👍
this deserves WAY more recognition
Great video!! Hope your channel blows up!
Great music choices for the video
i hope you've changed that fire alarm battery by now lol
What do you mean
@@lugalan i hear what sounds like a smoke detector low battery chirp during the abyss section
@@anubion42 ohhhh yeah , the same goes for my laptop overheating throughout most the recordings. Your reply freaked me out because my actual fire alarm battery has been chirping the last 3 days for the first time in ages. Thanks for watching anyway, hope you enjoyed.
@@lugalanGood video bro, but you do need to fix that not just because of how loud it is but also for your safety
@@anubion42i dont hear it lol, where?
The reference to Jacob Geller came to my mind as soon as you brought the Solitude topic up, that is the video that got me to see his content literally becoming my favorite creator. I see that you are a man of culture as well not only for the reference but for making a Mario Galaxy vídeo in the first place, you earned a new subscriber.
you need to make more of these youre gonna be a big channel one day. trust me.
Tghe personalizaton ai killed me and iM typing this frim hel valley guys be careful!!!!!!
I t is the beach bow cav butt all the water js blood!!!!!1!!!
Seriously underrated video though, hope this gets more attention!!!
The ship that you were talking about in the entry 'Olimar's Ship' resembles the Hocotate Ship more then Olimar's S.S. Dolphin, the Hocotate Ship belongs to the company Olimar works for.
I thought knew all this stuff but I learned a ton! Thanks for the awesome video. That intro was super cool. Also those beta songs were so good.
watched it two times already, very charming listening to your video while working :) I love galaxy
thank you for putting the music in the description
Great video! SMG is my favorite game ever and it turns out there was a lot of things that I didnt know about the game
I didn't expect to hear yume 2kki music in this video! fun watch
this has kept me from getting bored at work, really good vid 👍
1:24:02 put some batteries in your fire alarm thanks
Came to comment the same thing but there are a few times where you can hear it😂
so glad i found this channel, you're gonna go places my dude. keep this up!
The intro goes soo hard it give me chills
was finally able to see the grand finale about a year ago after managing to complete that one stupidly hard trash removal level in battlerock galaxy (yk the one)
Just found your channel and I love the intros and topics!
Alternate black hole death actually refers to a glitch in Goldleaf Galaxy that causes you to continue the walking animation as you fall toward the black hole if done correctly.
phenomenal video! loved watching it
never forgetting Neil Cicierega's Mouth Dreams album cover has starts referencing SMG stars in the covers
in the album, they read out "nice Modems"
You have the distinction of being the only iceberg video I want to see
1:21:05 I believe the brown one was supposed to be an early development of the rocky mario from SMG2 that was later used.
I love the change between the depths of the iceberg to the orbit of a planet
Wow I had no idea until I saw this very video that there were secret diving animations for Mario and Luigi.
I Need to say that this video is one of UA-cams greatest videos
I just started watching this and oh my god that intro goes so hard dude
1:40:59 the tonal whiplash is insane
59:03 I feel like this gimmick was reimplemented back into Super Mario Odyssey years later
1:22:15 For God's sake, it's the TF2 coconut all over again.
I'm pretty sure the text on the door in Good Egg Galaxy is meant to be from a note, even if we don't see one. The button prompt says "read" and the text is written on a paper background with wood behind it.
