Years later after discovering this as a teenager I still come back in my late twenties to rewatch this
her voice is haunting in the best kinda way
i`ve never heard a better version
Please Lord, send me a woman with a voice like this. I will never ask another thing of you ever again.
very few songs can move me deeply..... this is one of them
most beautiful voice i've ever heard
her voice is haunting and lovely. can't wait to see her live soon!
that is wicked, soft and strong all rolled up into a fairytale voice and face.
Blue diamond 👐
Yes!!!
New to me this rendition, so lovely. She is among the top reasons I became addicted to UA-cam.
The ting about this one from Lisa is for me... just the beauty of her voice. very soothing and very haunting. She has a rare voice and a fantastic range. Love this song because in those days and even now I suppose she is nervous and has such humility.. Hope dat never changes.. Turn the lights off and the sound up an listen...
I love how dreamy and flowy this song is... It puts you in a trance... beautiful. Lisa is my favorite female artist, just second to Tori Amos... :)
I shiver with the beauty of her voice...
I stumbled here by accident.
The most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
soul touching voice
one of the greatest voices of our century!! Lisa Hannigan
absolutely wonderful!
lisa hannigan is amazing.
Wow. I do not fall for sentimental songs like that usually but I guess Lisa has a vocal key to my heart.
I wish she would have recorded a studio version of this. Need that great quality to bump on some nice speakers.

the acoustics are amazing in this song
On the contrary: It would surely have been over-produced. Perfect as it is (and no three of the songs that scared my when I first heard them (bit in a very beautiful way)
This is one of those songs that are very hard to interpret. Given that is the very Holiday who master this song to absolute perfection, I must say this is very well done.
Thank you VERY much for posting this, I really really love this song
I fell in love with this version when I first heard it. It's beautiful... Lisa's voice is so enchanting... I like this one better than the original version. ;)
i'm 17 and i came across lisa hannigan by accident (silent night is a backing track for a merlin video) and i love her voice. the tunes of today are good to dance to, but i rarely listen to a song that makes me feel so much emotion. i think she has a beautiful voicee, and it just goes to show that "the youth of today" can appreciate good music rather than tinchy strider and all that.
This so enchanting
i dont care if its mainstram or not. i found it. thats all that matters. she is absolutely lovely.
Lisa should seriously consider doing an album of standards; her range and depth of feeling she shows in this , 'dont explain and one other one she did with Herbie Hancock (which i cant remember the title) are extraordinary
"Don't Explain" with Damien Rice.
TheRanhughes but wasnt there a second 'classic' song( done with Damien..and I believe produced by Herbie Hancock) from around the same time period?
@@williammackay9429 times they are a changing, and it was like 2009/2010ish
I have never heard Lisa Hannigan before. This song is beautiful! Haunting yet soothing. Very nice.
Wow her voice just gets better every year !
beautiful voice and songwriting!
Sweet Jaysus - this lovely lady has such a magical voice.
lovely version
damn. that's haunting. Thanks George.
effortless talent. Godlike!
beautiful
Oh my! I'm in love! x
I too came by accident, and her songs rendition, haunts my very soul.
Then why can't i stop listening, her voice penetrates my skin.
It's like an Anthem for old Psychotic girlfriends.
Hauntingly beautiful.
Haunting and beautiful. Gotta love haunting tunes
OMG she´s everything the doctor recomended to me, Love her so much!
Beautiful! x
Holy SHIT her voice. I'm so glad I found this.
amazing voices... i wish i was there watching her.
I love her.
Very rare that I like anything previously covered by Lady Day, but this is just stunning!
This is so awesome...
awesome version!
wow, she's so beautiful...
this song sends a chill down my spine... awesome!!! :D
fkn BRILliant!!! fearless.
the acoustics are amazing in this song
gorgeous every time I stumble on this video. =)
class!!
I know Lisa has a charming voice, but Bjork and her are totally different, so you can`t compare her. I just think that both are magical and sublime in each one style.
Love this cover, is great!!! and love Lisa too.
Damien Rice and Lisa are both amazing.
holy crap that was awesome! O.O i love it!
Somehow, this reminds me of the sensual and haunting version of "Don't Explain" on the Herbis hancock album "Possibilities" I believe it would be another remarkable piece with Damien. There break up is loss to music listeners everywhere.
I love her voice sooo damn much.
great!
amazing!
I am completely at a loss to how 12 people have decided to dislike this. Speechless.
Wow!
In the beginning it reminds me a little of Björk... but after 10 seconds, it's pure Lisa's talent!!!! ;)
super, super, thanks for sharing ;0]
Was looking for Jarboe's version, but this is lovely!
i almost cried when i heard this
Godly Voice
wow!
@Xitlalic The beauty of it is that it is not mainstream. Keeping music like this at the "indie" hidden level make it that much greater.
I always think that! Good call
wow.. five years ago...
very nice
love her :D
This is very haunting.
It was a great night - she just did a really good performance on the Late Late show tonight; hopefully someone will post it :-)
ha ha beat me to it!
just shows you though - lisa's version makes you hear the song in a new light :-)
beautifull
This is very haunting
this is a fantastic cover. same with her cover of Iron and wine's "Free until they cut me down"
I saw her first on Herbie Hancock's DVD/CD. Her and Damien Rice are very good.
Lisa however is a unique creature. Her voice has a freaky wonderfulness to it. She reminds me of Blossom Dearie? And if your saying..who is Blossom Dearie? she is jazz vocalist who's voice is best known for singing the Number 8 or Figure 8 piece on ABC's School House Rock. Also a very baby doll yet substanative, haunting yet engaging voice. check her out too.
! watch her over and over and she is flawless... the only other women that I think has a flawless voice is KD lang. Lisa's world reknown fame has yet to hit.....she is a headliner!
That instrument is named Sansula. It's a development of the traditionaly african Mbira or Kalimba and it is krafted by Peter Hokema in Germany. It's beautiful, isn't it :)?
damn soo good
Gorgeous.
As was the singing...ah ha. Ah ha ha. Ah ha ha ha ha ha.
I would like to meet her on a Tuesday.
It's both. This is the siren song that wrecks musical apathy.
woah
When the mellow moon begins to beam,
Ev'ry night I dream a little dream;
And of course Prince Charming is the theme:
The he
For me.
Although I realize as well as you
It is seldom that a dream comes true,
To me it's clear
That he'll appear.
Some day he'll come along,
The man I love;
And he'll be big and strong,
The man I love;
And when he comes my way,
I'll do my best to make him stay.
@mediamamachick
Thanks for the recommendation! Blossom Dearie is now in my favourites :) I'd never heard of her before.
Colbert we follow! pretty good
bahaha Ive watched this video so many times and I JUST noticed the title says "Songs That Scare Children."
Oh, so lovely. Now I'm trying to figure out how to download the audio to my iPod so I can listen to it whenever I want.
muito lindo*
@shonomad Well, she did her ten-song record a year or two ago and it's brilliant, now she is finishing the second one. Also, she partly wrote a few songs of Damien Rice, so I think she knows her way and is quite original as well:)
@medina2730 In fact, they were both on stage with Herbie once doing Don't Explain altogether. One of the most amazing things I have ever heard. Try searching for December 4th, 2004 The Troubadour-West Hollywood,CA concert.
the beginning part scared me a little bit, but i like this (bosa nova?) version of it. it sort of reminds me of the beautiful music from the movie nightmare before christmas :)
She is really reminding me of a sort of Irish Fiona Apple. Which is VERY much a good thing.
Hmm, it doesn't really matter you can if you want to. But I would definitely love to own an instrument like that, sounds so neat.
lmfao ur comment just made my night. songs awesome
@Xitlalic Because people like fast upbeat songs to make them feel better because they are simplistic.
kateindublin>>>Thank You for posting
AMAZING
