- Northern soul reached the peak of its popularity in the mid to late 1970s. At the time, there were soul clubs in virtually every major town in the north west of England and the midlands . Northern soul venues included The Catacombs in Wolverhampton, Va Va's in Bolton, the 'Talk of The North' all-nighters at The Pier and Winter Gardens in Cleethorpes, Tiffany's in Coalville in the Midlands, Samantha's in Sheffield. There were however three venues regarded as the most important in the decade, these were the Golden Torch in Tunstall, Stoke, Blackpool Mecca and The Casino in Wigan. I'm On My Way" by Dean Parrish was considered as one of the three "3 before 8" records that would be played before the closing of the clubs in the early morning hours after the long night of dancing, ". A great sound put to scooters riding around London.
I’m 19 years old and this song has to be up there for me as one of my favourite songs ever. Up there with Frankie valli the nights and Dobbie grey out on the floor

I love me a bit of northern soul music, too young and not living in the right place to be part of that scene but it has many similarities with the early rave scene of which I was very much into. The all-nighters, the four to the floor beat, travelling long distances for a few hours of something special, DJ's with the acetate or pirate mix that nobody else had, not to mention what kept you going all night. I've loved, listened and bought soul music before, during and after the Rave explosion but it was probably the closest I will ever come to the Northern Soul experience. Long may the music last and Keep Her Lit.
I completely agree and went through similarities in the bounce scene. The cover ups that the DJs did with the super rare tunes too.
Many thanks. Your not alone many of us moved from the Northern soul scene to the rave scene thanks to Manchester, its music scene & clubs like the Hacienda.
Yup did both scenes myself, brought up with Northern finished off by techno lol @@bacardy1964
You are a lucky individual to have experienced both scenes . The two churches of each have long closed (casino and hacienda) and if you've been to either or both, then I'm jealous. Good luck.@@bacardy1964

Gloria Jones - Tainted Love was the one that got me into NS. My dad showed it me earlier this year. Since then, I've listened to NS daily. Always finding 'new' tunes.

Love it!!..
Great tune..
Cracking song
Fantastic...////
how can you dislike is song
Brilliant song, by a brilliant artist Dean Parrish 😍I love Northern Soul and I also love scooters and motorbikes, but unfortunately this video is unwatchable. We were invited as a scooter club, to go for the filming, there was plenty of notice given, lots of time for the planning so I would have assumed it would have been done by a professional film/videography outfit, but obviously not. The video is an injustice and spoils an absolutely brilliant song 🎶🎵💃🕺👌👍
top tune one of the three b4 8
Out of your sights, I'm on my way to the city....im off...
I honestly thought he was a black guy , i mean that as a compliment his voice is amazing
Loved Va Va's
+brooky54
had some good nights 72/74.
Mint.
When the DJ plays this you know the end is nigh. You can collect your talc and change of shirt and think did I really enjoy this? Forcing myself to dance to tunes with obscure melodies. One of the reasons they never made it first time round. The hips stiffen and its a struggle to sit down...never mind stand up. Look on the bright side though. You can do it all again next week in some obscure hall miles from home. Same dodgy tunes..same old dance moves..trying to recreate a youth culture that hit its peak 40 years ago..why?
CLASS!!!
aweseome!
class
Keep the faith
Oh the smell of two stroke engines 😉
great day out thanks
Your probably in there somewhere Just.
Anthem!!!!!
Came here because I read the beginning of the song 'Atomic' by Blondie was taken from this song.
The bridge to, and the break in the melody before "Atomic" is spoken, is heavily influenced by the bridge in the song "I'm on my way" by Dean Parish.
One of the '3 before 8,' for those that know!
Great tuneeeeeeee ktf

Remember the coaches bringing Northern Soulies into Cleethorpes for the Winter Gardens, the police would stop the coaches, search everyone for gear, and you could hear the pills crunching under the officers boots as they walked down the aisle in the centre of the bus. Remember it well.
Mods didn't wear crash hats back then ,I know because I was there.
