thepredator1988 Absolutely they are fictional 'ideals', and the show is written to heighten the romance and personalities of the two, so I'd start with the understanding that when we're talking about real life, the people would be reminiscent of the characters rather than 'copies' of them. I think maybe the reason you have these preconceptions is that you haven't interacted with the right people, or you've not interacted with these people in a charismatic way. Sure there are people who have alterior motives, but with a half decent sense of emotional intelligence, it's not too difficult to weed those people out. Generalisations are the worst, you can find decent people in every culture.

By the nth season of miscommunication and betrayal I'm usually tired of the main straight couple destined to be endgame. But Jim and Pam... soul mates. It was obvious from day one but the slow burn was oh so sweet. Worth the wait, painfully enjoyed every second.

The Dwight pranks were good but some of the moments with Jim x Pam were full of tension and it was to early for that. For example, the scene where Pam says that Jim’s not stuck
at 03:10 Jim: "...then I'd probably wouldn't be stuck here". Pam: "You're not stuck". Jim: *smiles* Love it, but understand why they cut it out. A little too openly interested in each other to keep the tension another season.

Everyone was going to the bar whereas jim went to a corporate party with karen, Michael, wallace etc. Jim and pam were already distant at this time so when Pam jokingly said yes boss , jim thought that she sees him as her boss and less as a friend ( and maybe realised he is turning into a corporate person which he never wanted to be)

She knew that Dwight would expect to be pranked again, so the best prank they could pull on him was not to pull one at all and watch as he shoots himself in the foot. Interestingly, Dwight uses this same tactic against Jim in a later episode with the snowball fights. He conditions Jim into expecting Dwight to take extreme measures for catching Jim offguard with a snowball fight, tricking Jim into developing a severe sense of paranoia, when really Dwight didn't do anything. He just stood by on the sidelines and watched Jim unravel.
It looked to me as if they told him the truth (that they didn't do anything), but put out all the body language and other signs that they were lying (I.e. hesitating before answering, Pam blinking rapidly as she answered) to trick Dwight who is probably knowledgeable about those kinds of things. If so, the scene is brilliant!
I am surprised no one gets the yes boss thing. The scene was where Jim and Karen were leaving for New York for the interview. Jim said wait until we get to the parking lot till you go to the bar, as in wait till we go until you drown yourself in alcohol with the sadness of me leaving. He meant it as a joke but she actually said yes and confirmed it. And hence they both are looking each other like that. It's not about her saying boss, it's about her saying yes.

So yeah, in my opinion the situation is weird because she calls him boss.

I think because both of them realise that if he gets the job at corporate, he'll be the boss, as he is interviewing for Jan's position, and that in turn means that they will not be able to see each other again as he'll stay in new york. So I think it's the realisation that hits both of them. Hence the silence that follows
