- Hello everyone, Happy Monday, and Happy Holidays!!
I was fortunate enough to have grown up as a young drummer listening to a lot of great funk players, Jeff Lorber, Marcus Miller, Will Lee, John Scofield, Delmar Brown, Kenwood Dennard, Daryll Dobson & Rael Wesley Grant with High Life, Stanley Clark and Billy Cobham, among many others. George Duke was the first musician I really heard magically bridge the gap between rock, jazz and funk, his incredible work with Frank Zappa was followed by a ton of fantastic studio albums. He is definitely one of the best keyboard players I've ever heard- and deeply missed. He always used great drummers too, so this is a drum cover of my favorite song from George's amazing 1978 release, Don't Let Go. I loved this album from day one, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
*This video is dedicated to my amazing wife, Heather- you are my bright and shiny day, every day- I love you, honey, hope you enjoy it too! Love, Kevin.
Equipment: I am using the small but mighty Roland TD 27KV2, running straight into a Scarlett 2i2 with both INST and AIR line enhancements on, and then into the Mac. All EQ and compression settings in the Roland are preset by me before recording each video. The headphones are Sony MDR7506s' and I use JBL, ADAM AUDIO, and QSC monitors. My Sticks are PROMARK Rebound Forward Balance 5As or the beautiful blue sticks from my very artistic wife. My sound source is an iPhone Pro with the EQ set on Rock.
Thanks so much for watching!
