Yep, that's one way - OR remove the headlight, and inside the nacelle you will kind a switched hot wire not used on Road Kings, labeled "Fender Tip Light" used for said purpose on other touring models, but not Road Kings. Most models this wire is orange. You are welcome...
Great video! I was going to do this to keep my phone charged but realized how easy and convenient it is to just carry a portable phone charger in my saddlebag. Charge a phone in less than 15 minutes! No wires, no fuss and keeps the bike clean.
I’m going to be installing a MTX Road Thunder on my 2014 RK this is in fact the best video I have seen for tank and wiring removal. Should be a piece of cake to run the wiring harness correctly and away from any heat damage. Thanks again.
God God, man. Taking the tank off for this job seems pretty unnecessary to me. I guess I will find out when I do this over the winter but I was planning to unbolt the tank and just prop it up a little bit. I have an 05 RK. Last time I took my tank off my gas gauge quit working because of a wonky connector and my fuel valve quick release started leaking and I had to get a new o ring for it. Having said all that, there are fundamental differences between our bikes. Mine doesnt have a plastic protected wiring raceway like yours. My Wiring is made up of big black shrink wrapped wiring bundles, or a preformed harness. I'm confident ill be able to just fishtape and ziptie mine
Installing USB charger video was great! - just used to install one on my Road King. Thx! Bought a charger with on/off switch to avoid draining battery.
Thanks for this, installed similar on my RK Special 2017. The process was very very similar and really helped a lot. Just a word, if you have an alarm be prepared for some serious noise when you do the terminal if you forget to handle that :D Ride safe
Thanks for the video. Well done. I am about to attempt installing a USB charger on my 2017 Road King. I am hoping the 2017 is all the same as your 2014 Road King. I though about fishing the wire first but will attempt removing the tank. I hope it goes as well as your video. Thanks again.
Great stuff my co-road king owner,! How long has the USB lasted? & has the USB gotten wet (rain, washing bike)? I’m hesitant to install one of the USB off Amazon because I’ve seen other videos where they didn’t last but maybe 1-2 yrs most..Thanks for sharing. (2016 Road King Cosmic Blue)
I had no neutral when I finally got it into neutral my right blinkers stayed on that's how I knew my bike was in neutral do you have any suggestions what it might be the fuses or electrical problem thank you your video was excellent
Did you have to purge the fuel line? I’m trying to do this on a 2016 Road King. I’ve seen other videos that say you have to purge pressure from line. Can you let me know if that’s what you did before disconnecting the fuel line?
You can but I think it’s ok to unplug the cables without doing so they are shrouded quick connections. Eventually you must disconnect your battery to install the charger cables so if you choose to do it in advance that’s no problem either.
No unless you are using the usb to power something it won’t run down the battery on the bike. If you leave a device plugged in while the bike is not running that will eventually deplete your battery.
I’m confident I could mount the switch what I believe most who watched the video doesn’t know which wires the switch hooks up to the “rear camera” for example. The “camera wires” Filming the

Thank you for the video! It`s actually pretty easy when someone shows it properly.
Thank you for this guide. I think I can do this! And will be trying tonight.

Very thorough explanation. I think I bought the same cable setup from Amazon. What did you use to mount the box to the bars?

Hi there. Does this work the same for a M8? Also, will it drain the battery when the USB is not in use?

You’ll be fine..tank is easy to remove.

Great video! Super helpful, I do similar videos. Keep up the great content Brother!
I have the same bike you have, got back from the shop from winter storage, turn the bike ,I had no neutral light, when I got it in to net

Did not purge the line. On my bike its a quick connect fitting. Super simple.
Great video
Should you remove battery cable first before you start unplugging electrical?

Always disconnect your battery leads before doing any electrical work.
I've got the same charger. And it said your have to in plug it whrn ur not using it. It will run down the battery. Has it every killed your battery?

Why not just take power from the headlight.
