KTM E-XC to E-SM electric supermoto and ride

- I converted my electric KTM Freeride from offroader to supermoto. It is extremely agile, I think the most agile bike I rode and owned. Probably because of how thin the front tire is.
You can get a license plate flipper here:
trydeal.com/bi...
If you buy trough this link, I will get some support!
I saved a little bit by buying used wheels instead of going with original or aftermarket and new custom wheels. Both rims are Excel, while hubs are Talon. They required little bit of work to repaint them. For axle sliders I used skateboard wheels.
Many people are not happy with their Freeride brakes, they are very week. I was unhappy too epecialy with the front brake. I upgraded plastic pistons to steel, replaced brake line and changed master cylinder to one from KTM 690 SMR. The final upgrade would be to go with bigger rotor and caliper, but that is harder to do.
! KTM exc 450 fun part was done on the private area and closed roads.

This thing is soooo cool, please upload more videos of you street riding
Thanks, I will.
Very nice ! Exactly what I plan to do with my e-xc. Go full Supermoto.😜 I have gas bike for long trips, but will buy e-ride for fun, short rides. I will try to learn stoppies & wheelies without burning gas, heat and noise. 🤫
Is that the E-SM? Or did you build from e-xc? Good job.
Subscribed and waiting for more videos.
Thanks. That's e-xc converted to e-sm. Its great bike to learn to do wheelies, safe too. It is much easier to wheelie on enduro wheels though.
@@Roadified thank you!
Hey! Looks nice! How exactly did you reconfigure the speedometer to the new wheels?
Actualy it was very simple, you must disconect one cable from the speedometer, then it allows to change the wheel radius. I though I will have to get a new speedometer, but it worked without spending any money here.
Damn bro that’s 🔥🔥🔥
hvordan er batteri tiden ifht at køre sådan en dag som du gør der? evt til og fra arbejde. syntes det virker kort 45 min på medium setting?!?
It can drive max 30 km with normal driving.
HI, what rims and tyres do you use? Does 3,5/4,25 rims and 120/140 tyres will fit?
At the time of the video it was:
Tires 100/75/(if i remember correctly)16.5 and 130/70/17
140 tire will already rub agains the chain, so you will need to offset the wheel.
Go with: 110/80/17 & 130/70/17, original setup.
It wont fit. There is no reason to put such big wheels on such light small bike. It will make it less agile and slower.
@@Roadified Thank you for your quick reply. The reason is tyre supply. I want to run SC1 or R11 tyres which are pain in the ass to get in 110/130.
@@Roadified I heard the VMX 3000 has same build as this, would you have an idea of the bore size for the vmx 3000
Beaucoup trop beau le bruit de l’élect
WHAT THE BATTERY LIFE LIKE ON THIS BIKE?
Very bad. 30km and it needs to charge.
It is perfect to commute in the city and have fun but not for trips and adventures.
@@Roadified DAMN, guess I'll look into the Alta ebike then
Alta doesn't make bikes anymore. Harley bought and bancrupted the company.
Look into Zero, they have much bigger range but much henvier bikes too.
How do you pop the clutch for a wheely?
;D...
Clutch for a wheelie on this bike is equals to supressing the suspension and pulling the bars. Plus my sprockets are way too big now to make it easy.
what supermoto wheels do you use for the EX-C
They are custom build so I think it is not helpfull answer.
I think the cheapest what you can do is to buy sx 85 hubs, and supermoto rims and build yourself. But be carefull when choosing rims, as sx has less spokes than regular supermoto rims.
@@Roadified aight thx
What's the top speed , how many miles per charge and how long to charge.
I did 90km/h. I do 30km and I must charge. Newer battery can do 45km.
It is a bit of a motocross and a bit of a trial bike, so speed is irrelevant on it.
Ouh, and it takes a bit over a hour to charge. I do not drain battery fully though.
Great video! I just bought a new 2022 freeride e-xc. Which license plate holder are you using? I just have the original long one but this one doesn't look as nice as the short one 👀
Greetings ✌️
Congrats and enjoy. It is short on mine, but it might be that it is just made from two parts, the upper part is the "short one". I might be wrong, but you should easily see this live.
@@Roadified thanks for the fast response! Where did you buy your holder? I’m not sure which one fits the freeride (I think the freeride is a bit smaller than the Gas bikes like the exc)
Do you have any link where I can buy it?
Sorry for the many questions 😅
Just checked, the part number is: 70008016000, the name "Number plate carrier top". If you google you'll find many online shops selling it.
@@Roadified thank you so much! 🤩👍👍
What's your top speed with the street gearing? What size sprockets do you have in the video? How does it compare to other supermotos?
Top speed is probably 80km/h now and on eduro wheels it was If I remember correctly 90. My original gearing was 13x48 and I believe stock comes 11x48. I am soon trying 14x46, but I think front sprocket guard will have to be removed as 13 already sitting very tight. I am both fine and not fine with top speed: I drive in the city mostly, but when I go for some mini trips I need longer gearing. Apparently the top speed exhaust the battery the most. It is much harder to wheelie now, maybe because of rear wheel size 17 instead of original 18. To compare it to other supermotos, it is different, definitely because of what all electric motor get rids of, but also because of lightness and how thin tires are. The thinner they are, the more agile bike will be, for sacrifice of grip of course. I also own KTM SMR 560, which is much more powerful but I prefer this one much more, if I don't have to travel somewhere further.
@@Roadified 80kmh? How many hp are you making?
@@Daniel-dj7fh 25hp
@@oscarkarinkanta so much power for just 80kmh?
My 11hp 125 used to do 100kmh
It has a lot of torque, 42nm
The top speed is not really related to that though, more to the gearing. Of course this has one gear so you choose - if you want top speed or torque at low speed, you cannot have both.
Also, so many misconceptions, this bike is not meant for top speed, going on highways, traveling etc. It is a hybrid between mx and trial bike - low speed fun, going offroading, jumping etc.
What’s the top speed ?
Mine does 90 km/h.
Second rider have stickers from Poland 🇵🇱 on the rear ZAP... ✌🏻 😄😄😄
Yeah I know, he is my good Polish friend :}
What are the dimensions of the rims? and tires?
Original rims should be 2.5 and x 3.5 (17s), tires can be slightly flexible according to this size. I would more worry about hub sizes and disc location. Rims cannot be too wide on this bike as the swingarm is tight for the wheel on the chain side. If you willing to loose some money, I would go with the original rims, no worries there.
@@Roadified congrats on the build its sick. I plan to do the same but I'm having some issues with wheels.. I know the originals are like you said 2.5 and 3.5 but I would like to rock some heidenau k73 tires (120/60 front and 160/70 back), do you think it should work on the original rims or should I buy some 3'' rims for the front? What are the dimensions of your excels? Another way maybe could be using the original hubs on larger rims.. Thank you in advance.
Hi, thanks for watching. Even size 140 for the rear is too big, 140 tire will touch the chain guard and it will be very close to the chain itself even with an ofseted rim.l and a spacer I did this, maybe I will make a video so you can see.
160 is crazy for such bike you will need wider rim perhaps 4 or 4.25. You will also face a posibility that it cannot be done in anyway, even with spacer + ofseted wheel by spoke adjustment.
I think if you realy want wider wheels or-and tires, safe way without a big trouble is to go only one size up. Also going original is a great option, KTM knows what they do. This bike is not fast so you don't need that extra traction given by much wider setup. Finaly, there is an extra joy with having thinner tires, bike becomes extremely agile.
Btw my setup in the video was 2.5x17 at front and 3.5x16.5 at the rear. And yes, you can do it on original hubs its good option but you will have to get new spokes too original.ones will be too long.
@@Roadified thank you for your quick reply. I would like to build something like this ua-cam.com/video/2_J8pS2THMs/v-deo.html and from what I can see, with modified spacers he was able to fit the 160/60 R17 Power Supermoto Rain on the rear. Front is a bit tricky but I assume the issue is the large hub. With a thinner hub maybe the 120 wheel would fit. What do you think?
Can you drive it on the street ? How long does it last on the highway
Yes, it is fully legal.
I drove only few times on the highway. Electric vehicles takes most energy on high rpm, so naturally it is not so good for the highway.
Whats the namn of the Wheels.
Excel
hmm if i dont hear the engine its not for me , nice video.
Agree, some feelings are missing.
Autonomy in km?
Very bad, 30km of normal driving and it needs charging.
@@Roadified sin! very nice bike! I would like to buy it but unfortunately the autonomy is too low!
Yes it is too low for trips. I drive to work with it everyday, it is enough for that at leaat.
Maaan! If you knew... i already decided that in 3 years and 8 months im getting one!!
Two sets of wheels. One million places to have a blast. In the end where your buddy drifts on the gravel at the wolf face building. Totally validated my decision. You can't do that for more than 10 minutes the same place, anywhere in denmark without pissing off someone. But on an electric, noone gives a shit if youre just 30 meters away.
In town cops wont hear you, hence they wont perceive your speed as high.
There's way less maintenance too.
Only minus is the range and limited peakpower. But apart from that its all good.
I'll get one. And sell the 22hp enduro i recently bought and already have the new bigbore crank for. Gonna build it this winter. After riding it stock with 8.4hp this summer 😅 its so slow.
But... its 93kg dry... fullsize featherweight. Its a beauty. Gonna be so fun with 20+hp.
But the noise tho... maybe i should get the electric even sooner. Less risk of trouble. I've vonsidere that too. Maybe two years from now already.
Anyway good to see video from you again 😁
Thanks. it is fun indeed, but range is too short. I can get tired if I do heavy road/offroad mix and then it is fine, but if to drive somewhere further it won't last. I can only get ¬30 km with aggressive driving. The last few days I am actually considering Zero FX, it has much better range, although it is also heavier.
@@Roadified is yours the exc with small or big battery pack?
30km is really short. I plan to get an rc36 again, just to pick up from where i left the game 😋 theyre dirt cheap
@@Roadified also, i think i'll keep my 22hp moped.
The fact theat i can get busted slikg whatever on that thing, and not lose the bike license. Good bike to have up my sleeve hehe
Is rc38 from Honda? Those are reliaboe aren't they?
My e-xc has a small batery pack. It is actually not small in a sence that it looks and weights identical to the newer one, with claimed 50% more juice. I would like to get that, but it is more than 20000dkk, probably not worth doing that.
Km autonomy in motard mode
0-100?
It doesn't reach 100km/h, it is freeride/motocross bike. It could reach it with different gearing though. I did 90 on 14x46. In general on standard gearing it accelerates very fast until top speed.
What is the top speed and how many kilometers you can drive with top speed in zero wind day?
Never tested driving top speed untill battery dies. But top speed varies depending on gearing: 75-90km/h. I drive aggressive and do ~30km, then it needs recharging. .
the one thing i came to see, you ruined with that awful filter at the beginning :P
it doesn't sound very good
