OVIDE AND THE GANG is so retrospectively legendary, i could watch it again, and again, and again 😹. I saw it for the first time on The Children's Channel somewhere in the early 1990's 😺👍. I'm 40 years old (born in June of 1983) and still watch the old cartoons 😹😺👍. Greetings from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.
ROFL this is so true for me too, me and a friend used to reminisce about 80s and 90s childrens TV, we both knew all the same shows but whenever I brought Ovide up he would stare blankly and deny all knowledge of it like I had just imagined the whole thing.
You could have asked _me;_ I'd have easily verified it for you. Celebrity Entertainment's Just For Kids imprint did tapes of this, and they advertised it and a bunch of others on quite a few _Filmation's Ghostbusters_ tapes.
I immediately had the taste of a cheese butty and a kitkat that my Mum (RIP) would have pre layed out on the living room coffee table for when I got back from school at 3.30pm xxx
The end of the closing credits used to scare me a little bit as a kid too, not just Cy (the snake) getting bitten but also that they immediately showed a coffin after it, then a night time shot of the island, at which point the theme music would suddenly and dramatically fade out... I always found that rather sinister when I was young! It's actually two scenes from one particular episode where Cy was bitten by the mosquitos and thought he was a vampire, so started sleeping in a coffin - but (as someone else has mentioned in a different comment), the way they threw those two scenes together completely out of context in the closing credits was rather morbid and eerie!
This bloody virus prompted me to search for this show too haha. The theme tune randomly got stuck in my head at work, probably the first time in 30 years I've thought about this show
This just put an end to my 20 year old mystery. I swore up-and-down about this show. I knew it existed and I wasn't just going crazy hahaha. Thanks for uploading this.
How about that, me also ! I've always been searching for "Ovideo Video" for years and years ( within reason ) and never found a damn clue about this, but happened across this completely by accident today :D I knew it was a real thing from my childhood, but no one else remembers it ! The only things that i could recall was a desert island, a black ( now know it's blue ) duck and TVs that sprang from the ground with nothing but women's red lips on them, that talked to the characters! Cripes !
DirtyBoySingToGod you remembered more than I did. I could remember the melody of the intro, and the fact there was a purple snake. I have no idea how I ever found it lol
What the F... This banging tune was playing in my head for sooo loong and it took everything I could think of to find this vid. I finally Googled "snake TV 90s"... Thank you OP
I had this theme stuck in my head for years and years and couldn't work out where it was from until I discovered a Pinterest page with it on. Now I will die in peace!
Remember this being on BBC One (Children's BBC) in the late 80s, IIRC it was shown at about 4:20pm on Thursdays, just before the Ninja Turtles... The show itself wasn't really much to write home about TBH, but the opening theme song and instrumental in the outro were catchy as hell!
Spot on, glad to see I'm not the only one who remembers. I'd run up the road from the school bus stop, tear into the house and sit there in front of the TV with my schoolbag still slung round my shoulder.
My aunt bought me a vhs of this when I was a kid (live in Michigan) and when I became a teenager I lost it. I asked everyone I hung out with if they'd ever heard of it, no one did. Back when not everyone had the internet or even a computer (especially in the country) it was next to impossible to find info about it. Now here I am, watching the intro and being surprised it was a canadian cartoon. Explains why I never saw it on cartoon network. lol

I finally figured out what this cartoon was. For years I would think about it and the theme song but could never remember the name. Finally I remembered that it was on Showcase in Canada. The wiki page had it listed.
I used to like this cartoon when I was little by the time I was born they weren’t making episodes anymore so I remember watching them as reruns every time I was visiting my grandparents on the farm in Northern Saskatchewan. they had satellite
This show is underrated once you ignore the one flaw regarding to cy’s reason to overthrow Ovide (although being jealous can be a reason of itself) you actually have a show that predates kikoriki within a couple of decades depending on which dub of kikoriki you prefer
I think "Down In New Orleans" should be the national anthem, but that's just my opinion. The fact that there's still no Ovide and the Gang DVD box set is the least of my problems now. Someday, I really hope that there'll be something much better than that - a new Princess and the Frog sequel and TV series on Disney Channel. I was alive during the peak of human existence. I was here when it all went off. These years were the greatest that humanity have ever produced. Despite not being able to recall a single episode, the lyrics and melody are forever ingrained in my mind. I think it was replaced by Count Duckula, on my programming schedule. Anyhow - well done on landing here. K's a tough one but it's S's turn to be Mother so tell C that R is to i as S is to t.

I really, really miss proper, distinctive themes tunes with a hummable melody and musical value... and I really, really miss the days when you could get away with almost two minutes of credits, giving the theme a chance to really bed in, do some interesting things. Now everything has to be crammed into fifteen seconds and will probably have a trailer, an advert, or even another episode of something completely different playing over the top of it.
Don't know why I was thinking about Sie getting hit by coconuts that I laughed my ass off and decided to check on UA-cam if I'd see Ovide. Lol and behold here it is 😅😅😅

Fun fact: Guy Delisle, writer of well-known comic biographies "Pyongyang", "Shenzhen" and "Burma Chronicles", worked as an inbetweener for this show, as shown at 1:28.
Since there's a soundtrack online that came out 2 1/2 years ago, I don't see why they can't come out with Ovide sheet music either. I've been studying music education for two decades already.
It's two scenes from the same episode. Cy (the snake) is bitten by mosquitoes and thinks he's become a vampire - but just throwing those 2 scenes together out of context is a bit morbid...
J amie Yes, same here! And it used to really disturb me as a kid! However I have seen another version of this outro where it shows the snake in his vampire form right after the coffin.
that was from an episode where the snake was bitten by 2 moskito and then he thinks he is a vampire and starts living in a coffin because that's what vampires do
I don't remember the end credits that well and I don't remember the shot of the coffin at all. I thought it would be something to do with vampires with the way the coffin looks like it is in a crypt. But I agree throwing the scenes together out of context is a bit morbid.

@@cristophergregory8938 I think you misunderstood what I said. Remastered as in restore it and bring it on dvd or Blu-ray. It would be nice. And I agree a new version of this would be some woke shit...
RENE ANDRE GUITTON (Composer) CARLOS LERESCHE (Composer) JOSE MARIA ROIG I BOADA (Uncredited Vocalist "listen to the themes she is credited for though and it's her") was the complete lineup who made this one I think.
This theme song was stuck in my head for 30 years. Finally found it!
Same here bro. Love my childhood
Me too. Probably 40 years.
same here. It's so catchy.

Bloody Hell ...Ive gone to war in the past with people about the existence of this cartoon
Me too! I swore blind it existed my wife and my friends do not remember it at all
Same!
the cartoon itself wasnt much cop, but the theme song was always as catchy as hell.!

growing up in south Africa this was broadcasted in Afrikaans back in my day ! still absolutely loved it.
Wonderful !
I knew I wasn’t hallucinating when I said this theme song exist
I loved this theme as an 8 year old and now in my mid 30s I think it's epic. What a classic show. Nostalgia!😊
Half way through listening to this I realised there was a broad smile across my face. That doesnt happen easily, this tune is the sounds of happiness.
Fred Blair - same here, it must be over 30 years since I last saw this and still remembered some of the words!
It sounds like summer of my early childhood :)
I immediately had the taste of a cheese butty and a kitkat that my Mum (RIP) would have pre layed out on the living room coffee table for when I got back from school at 3.30pm xxx
Your mother was an amazing person.
may she RIP.
The cartoon with the ending credits that seemed to go on forever...

No idea why this pinged into my head this morning but it did and I subsequently found this video, memories of growing up in the 80's 👍
I saw the name of a Spanish football team called Oviedo and it reminded me of Ovide. I remember the mosquitoes drinking the blood!!
The last few seconds of the closing credits took a dark turn really fast.
There seems to be a vampire...something hanging upside down behind the coffin.
The end of the closing credits used to scare me a little bit as a kid too, not just Cy (the snake) getting bitten but also that they immediately showed a coffin after it, then a night time shot of the island, at which point the theme music would suddenly and dramatically fade out... oh man, that's completely solved the mystery! Bugged me for decades that. Such a weird edit for a closing credits on a kids cartoon!@@DaveAndBeth1978
A very underrated show!
I've been singing "Covid video'' everytime I see another coronavirus bulletin
It's not just me then!
Covid video!
Lol please don’t ...!!!!! That’s a sacrilege to Ovid ..!!!!! Don’t make this scamdemic planneddemic part of my childhood 🤦🏼♂️🤣
Lol! Great minds think alike
I'll never unhear that now
Wow, this must have been one hell of a show, given how many thousands of people worked on it!
Thanks to the Corona Virus aka Covid 19, I’ve been singing this for the past two weeks. Needed to remember words other than “Oviiiiides Videeoooooo!”
Me too lol !!
Same! Covid video
This bloody virus prompted me to search for this show too haha. The theme tune randomly got stuck in my head at work, probably the first time in 30 years I've thought about this show
Well it’s good to know I’m not alone.
There are other people who do this? Lmao I thought I was the only one going around singing "And now tall tales of covid video"
This just put an end to my 20 year old mystery. I swore up-and-down about this show. I knew it existed and I wasn't just going crazy hahaha. Thanks for uploading this.
It took me until I was 25 and met my ex husband to figure out what it was called. No one else remembers this show!
wardrich it took me till 27 lol... I spent many years trying to remember it.

I'm only here because Covid reminded me of it.
Alan Angel that must be why it came into my subconscious just now.
Same!!😂😂
Me too
I'm watching Covid's Video, too, under 35s would not get this!
Me too Alan.
Takes me way back to those Saturday afternoons I spent at my grandmother's house as a kid whenever my parents were away! Nostalgia!
I never thought I would find this song. I can't believe it!!

I remember Ovide being on BBC 1 early on Saturday mornings in around 1989. I don't remember seeing it weekday afternoons.
Thanks mom and Dad for giving me a fondly remembered childhood...i never missed this cartoom show...classic
My aunt bought me a vhs of this when I was a kid (live in Michigan) and when I became a teenager I lost it. I asked everyone I hung out with if they'd ever heard of it, no one did. We watched this in Nigeria in to late 80s/early 90s ... catchy intro tune!
This show came out in Nigeria in 2002.
Remembered this show from late 80's
Ovide is identical to Perry the secret agent and family pet in Phineas and Ferb
A very rare find! nostalgia all over me!
This and the Heathcliffe Theme live in my head rent free.
Woke up with this tune in my head today.
Same!
Here's a show that hasn't crossed my mind in decades.
Join us on this South Sea Isle.
The gang's all here to swing in style.
Saffron's cooking up a roast,
And Ovide Video's your host.
Look out Cy,
Look out Bobo,
Party crashing's a no-no.
I'll catch that sneaky snake cries Fred Polo.
Tough-nut Cy,
He's super sly.
But Rowland knows no smarty,
Can ruin Ovide's party. (Oh no?)
The joint is hopping,
Come on, let's drop in.
For more top tales of Ovide Video. (Video!)
The gang's all here,
Let's get on with the show. (Yeah, let's go!)
And now top tales of Ovide Video...
Man, it's been years. I remember watching this on Saturdays with my bro. Glad I could relive this.
what was the segment of cartoons called again ? k kids or something like that ... I used to wake up early to catch Sonic The Hedgehog (y)
This has such a fantastic an catchy theme so did Star Street brilliant cartoons from the late 80s early 90s 😁
This ending was always very soothing to me.
This theme just popped in my head for some reason... I didn’t even know what the cartoon was, I just remember the theme lol. Random.
Now here's Dr. Fauci with another COVID VIDEOOOOOO
This music is so catchy. It makes me dance.
Thanks to this great cartoon knew what is a platypus, I remember the first one. That I watched was when Bobo met a group of aliens and they turned his lolipop into a bigger one
I came here because of Maffew. His Cash Wheeler memes montage was comedy gold.
It's my godfather (Godi) who drew this cartoon.
Man that's really cool
that is soooooo cool
That you so much for sharing such uncommon footage of these long forgotten shows. I love it!
I finally figured out what this cartoon was. For years I would think about it and the theme song but could never remember the name. Finally I remembered that it was on Showcase in Canada. The wiki page had it listed.

nostalgic feeling in 2024 hearing this
This theme should be the national anthem!
TheCatfeeesh agree love it
I think "Down In New Orleans" should be the national anthem, but that's just my opinion. The fact that there's still no Ovide and the Gang DVD box set is the least of my problems now. To TheCatfeeesh: Great idea. Pour le Canada.
While you're at it, get rid of that silly tea towel flag and Son of Trudeau.
While we're making changes to Canada, get some real names for your coins! Loonies and toonies? Come on! I thought pennies was a stupid name.
The last time I saw this was perhaps in the previous century.
Probably first cartoon that I remember from my past. I really feel moved and happy :)
This played Saturday at 06:30 a.m at the displeasure of my mom, because I would wake up early just to watch it. LOL
Who knew mosquitoes could turn people. Didn't even know we all vampires in sub-saharan africa
The man who drawn this cartoon is from belgium and is my godfather. Today he drawn the comic strip ducoboo. He is verry kind!
If you see him, tell him I like Ovide Video.
It was my childhood, probably first cartoon I remember from my life. Thank for memories 😍
This is a classic. I don't know why people in America except me had heard of this.
A Canadian-Belgian coproduction. Hence we know it in Belgium, Canada - and the Netherlands.
I rented the tapes from a local video store when I was a kid
Video: "I'll catch that sneaky snake cried Fred Polo".
Me: Go Polo!
I remember the cartoon. The theme song is pleasant.
The end of the closing credits used to scare me a little bit as a kid too, not just Cy (the snake) getting bitten but also that they immediately showed a coffin after it (as someone else has commented, it's two scenes from the same episode where Cy gets bitten by a mosquito and then thinks he's a vampire, but the way they threw those two scenes together out of context was rather morbid!), then after the coffin they immediately showed a night time shot of the island, at which point the cheerful theme music would suddenly and dramatically fade out... I always found that rather eerie and sinister when I was young!
Me too, in fact it popped into my head tonight and had to search what actually happened. Thanks for clearing that up
I wonder if that was intentional?
I kept humming this for decades and my siblings couldn't help me cos they thought I made it up...I feel so good that I knew I wasn't making it up...😊
I always used to think the bit at the end with the mosquitoes and coffin was the snake dying of malaria... bit dark for a kid's cartoon?

Idk how i found a vhs of this in Louisiana, but I loved Ovide as a kid lmao. I had those two VHS's memorized.
Just played this to my baby son and he LOVES it!
I remember this programme when I was a kid, the end part use to scare me with cy getting bitten when I was a child.

This brings so much 90s Nostalgia.
1:32 So many people worked on this that they even managed to hire four people just to recuperate!
😭😭😭😭 Oh my childhood days
Great show
Indeed.
I remember this from way back. No one I know remembers it for some reason. The funny thing is, I remember the opening theme tune and the ending more than the cartoon itself. HAHA! SO TRUE! Me too!=) The fun part is that I watched it in Norwegian and have the same result as you xD
To Antoine Dodson's Bandana: The two themes ARE the show.
Wouldn't it be cool if Shout Factory released this show on dvd in a complete series set?
Of course, they'd have to buy the rights to it first...if they hadn't already.
Kevin McQueary I agree it’s been many decades now and this show still needs a complete series set
Highly underrated
The memories ;_;
To be young again.
I remember Ovide.
I love this show! :)
Amazing show! ❤😊
Thanks a lot for this OL, good memories
Done as a collaboration with Nic Broca (creator of the Snorks) and Bernard Godi.
I feel so old.
I prefer the Dutch version of this song. These English lyrics sound like somebody really struggled to make them fit the melody.
French lyrics are more creative and fit the melody better too.
It's calipso music. Everybody get up and dance.
Don't know why I was thinking about Sie getting hit by coconuts that I laughed my ass off and decided to check on UA-cam if I'd see Ovide. Lol and behold here it is 😅😅😅
Wow, I forgot all about this show!
00:29 Yay! Polo to the rescue!
Tough luck Cy,
He's super sly.
But Groaner knows no smarty,
Can ruin Ovide's party. (Oh no?)
The joint is hoppin',
Come on, let's drop in.
For more top tales of Ovide Video. (Video!)
The fun's begun,
let's have some fun.
Adventure's around the corner,
but there's no short orders.
The party's rockin',
the door is knockin'.
You can't have more fun without a single show. (No, no!)
Ovide Video!
Watch out for some knockout laughs,
there's some mischief in quarter halves.
No need for some silly rails,
Ovide's got you on your tail.
Cy and bobo, better watch out!
Over there, you will not pout.
The world surrounds you all about.
Look around,
there's worth to be found.
The TV screen's all over you,
there is a point of view.
The joint is hopping,
Come on, let's drop in.
For more top tales of Ovide Video. (Video!)
Tough luck Cy,
He's super sly.
But Groaner knows no smarty,
Can ruin Ovide's party. (Oh no?)
About that time,
the bells will chime.
The gang's all here,
Let's get on with the show. (Yeah, let's go!)
And now top tales of Ovide Video...
Thanks botchamania for reminding me of this forgotten relic of the past
que tiempos estaba bien pequeño los miraba en honduras
Great theme loved this
Why was it Ovide Video and not just Ovide?
Oh my gawd! I actually forgotten about this until now.
Fun fact: Guy Delisle, writer of well-known comic biographies "Pyongyang", "Shenzhen" and "Burma Chronicles", worked as an inbetweener for this show, as shown at 1:28.
+Vasconium He's been on a number of things over the years like "The Animals of Farthing Wood".
An Inbetweener is someone who is between.
thanks maffew
it was a french cartoon back in its day
Pretty sure it was Canadian?
This is a great cartoon.
Oh Wonderful ovide 💘💗❤
Since there's a soundtrack online that came out 2 1/2 years ago, I don't see why they can't come out with Ovide sheet music either. I've been studying music education for two decades already.
Nostalgia
Hey anyone else notice at the end after the the insects 'sting', there's a quick shot of a coffin!
It's two scenes from the same episode. Cy (the snake) is bitten by mosquitoes and thinks he's become a vampire - but just throwing those 2 scenes together out of context is a bit morbid...
For years I thought this implied the Snake died at the end of every episode!
I always found it sad in the end credits when the Mosquitos “kill” Sy.
The end of the closing credits used to scare me a little bit as a kid too, not just Cy the snake getting bitten but also that they immediately showed a coffin after it, then a night time shot of the island, at which point the theme music would suddenly and dramatically fade out...
Last time is saw this cartoon I was 11 years old I couldn't remember the name only video then it came to me lol it was ovide wow.....!!!!!!!
They need to remaster this show.
No thanks. Best left as a classic. Too much woke nonsense in TV these days will kill a remaster.
@@cristophergregory8938 I think you misunderstood what I said. Remastered as in restore it and bring it on dvd or Blu-ray. It would be nice.
And I agree a new version of this would be some woke shit...
00:33 Yay! Go Polo!
RENE ANDRE GUITTON (Composer) CARLOS LERESCHE (Composer) JOSE MARIA ROIG I BOADA (Uncredited Vocalist "listen to the themes she is credited for though and it's her") was the complete lineup who made this one I think.
Yeah 80s childhood in Pakistan
The show didn't come out in Pakistan until 1999.
@@siennagalloway8235 that s not true i remember distinctly watching it in the 80s on ptv
