Build a rack next to your mill and when you cut your logs stack them in your rack then it makes life so much easier.

WhenI was a youngster there were ,” gyppo mills” all over the place and m dad would drag home truck loads of slab wood for use to cut up into firewood with a buzz saw. I think I’m still digging the slivers out from between my fingers. Great firewood. 😁

It’s good to see someone who understands and uses low range in a vehicle. The majority of drivers of 4 X 4’s and side by sides never learn to use that feature.
I use it on my 4WD ATV and seldom have to use my brakes on any downhill while in 4WD.

Personally, I have never found a reputable dealership. I’ve always bought from private sellers. Hopefully, if you can’t work out a deal, you can sell it on marketplace for a much better price than the dealership tried to scam you with. Hopefully you can find low mileage vehicle from an owner instead of going back to a car lot. If you need financing, a bank or credit union might be a better option anyway. Hope you get everything done before the snow flies!

I don’t know about Canada, but in Texas there are TV stations that will do stories on problems like yours with the new truck. You just explain your problem or situation, dealership’s name and what he told you (details!) on camera and it’s televised in your area. I’ve seen housing problems, car repair problems, etc that were resolved by doing this. What do you have to lose - though you might wait to talk to the second dealership. Good luck! Bet it’ll work..

Having the saw rack closer to the mill and stacking the offcuts as they come off the mill makes for a much cleaner and SAFER working environment. Of course, you would need cut the offcuts to size once the rack fills. And stacking offsets as they are cut would avoid the fiasco of trying to move that tangle mess with the tractor forks. Just saying.

You can always tell with people that don't cut firewood for a living is they always got to measure their firewood I used to sell firewood probably for anywhere from 15 to 25 years and I never use a tape measure and I sold three different sizes of firewood 15 inch 16 inch and 18 inch and you always get it within 1/2 an inch to an inch it's in the proper size always undercut never overcut size and I always mark my chainsaw bars so if I ever get unsure I can just use my barter of my chainsaw to measure just take a file and scratch the lines and what size would you want🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I go over to my local Amish friend where they have their cutoffs stacked about 15 feet high and 60 feet long. Poor guys can't give it away except to me and a few others, who all cut it up like you do and use it for fire starter all winter long. It's great for splitting into small strips and getting a fire going very quickly, then blazing it up to some high heat before putting in the hard wood. It's a lot harder work than most people would expect though. All those small pieces take a lot of bending over to pick up which is hard on the old back.

You two are smart cookies, I'm sure you read all of the spec and drove the truck before signing the check , right? Your in a small area of the country not a lot of dealerships to contend with, buyer beware once that truck drives off the lot, it's yours and the buy back is in there favor, thinking for all of the positive obstacles you have conquered and over come this is part of the process, car and or truck sales at the DEALER, is always a challenge, wishing you the best on over coming this low gear bump in the gravel road.

So firstly, one of the hardest working and honest off grid couples on UA-cam. Love the channel. Here in the Uk it is generally recognised that registering a Brand New vehicle depreciates its value by circa 30% It doesn't matter if there is only a few miles put on the clock. A dealer would have to re sell the vecle as "Not Brand New" a buyer isn't interested in the story to the buyer it isn't new. Compare a sale price for an ex demonstrator vehicle for which a dealership gets an extra manufacturer discount or incentive|| as tough as it is the issue here is the customer not knowing what they were buying, not the dealer selling something wrong. A lesson to be learned as painful as it is, Sorry. Granted the dealer could try and work something out that doesn't lose them money overall, but that is an honest conversation and detailed explanations. Sorry to be blunt but that is sadly the reality.

you should watch farmcraft101 channel on how me approaches wood cutting for his furnace. While his method won't work for you and a wood fireplace, the concept might. He is all about minimizing steps and cuts needed. He knows the size of wood logs that fit his furnace (stand alone building) and he cuts the tree limbs/trunks once to that size and stacks them in racks and moves the racks with the tractor. He explains his concept in videos. The point is you should review the entire process from tree felling to cutting to stacking to minimize your steps and work. It take some thought to think through perhaps two different processes (cutting tree's and cutting them into boards), then processing the scraps into firewood, but probably would be worth your time.

It's too bad you didn't notice the missing gearing before you bought the truck. I"m with you and find it surprising that the dealership was squeezing every penny of profit for them given the circunstances. Have you tried discussing with the new car sales manager or dealership owner? They are smart enough to know that an upset customer can cost them more than the profit margin on another new truck, just by share their poor customer service and treatment with their friends and contacts. Don't be shy about letting telling them so, especially now at the end of the month when they are trying to make their sales goals and mfg incentives. Good luck and stay positive and upbeat. See you on the next one. Larry, Central Valley, Ca.

It would save you a lot of headache and frustration. Make legs of saw buck wide enough to put the tractor bucket under it to catch pieces once cut.

Hey guys. Does this new truck have paddle or click shifting? Through the years I’ve had several four wheel drive vehicles even old stuff where you get out and lock in the front hubs. I used to plow very steep hills in northern Michigan with a dodge Dakota using low range. But this truck only had a four speed auto trans and first gear was not very low ratio.
Cars and trucks these days have six eight or more gears. The low gears are VERY LOW. I’ve got a Jeep grand Cherokee, has eight speeds, first gear is very low and I can lock it in by clicking a button. This thing will crawl down a steep two track or pull much bigger vehicles out of snow banks. Try your new truck on your steep drive locked in first gear. You may find you don’t need low range so much after all.

try shifting down to manual low, the newer transmissions have really low 1st. gears

It is that time of year, to cut firewood before the first snow. Sorry for your problems with the new truck not having the gearing needed for mountain driving on ice or packed snow on your routes. Most cars and trucks today have on-road-focused All Wheel Drive systems, not 4-wheel drive. I would talk to a mechanic if you have one of these systems for your new truck to see how it will handle ice and snow-packed roads, or trade down to a used truck with the type of 4-wheel drive you need for the driveway and routes. I'd rather lose money than lose my life or get injured seriously.

I think you could have cut those off cuts like that in the pile instead of trying to move them with pallet forks.

Change the transmission if possible. There is probably an after market replacement

I SO identify with "Not feeling it" today. So, instead, I fixed some lunch and watched your video. :-) Now it's time to get off MY butt and do some work. So sorry to hear about the truck woes. Hopefully you get something worked out!

omg... agree with the comment to initially stack the off cuts properly to begin with... BUT dealing with your situation, why handle the off cuts twice? Hand stack them now on your tractor, move the tractor closer to wherever you want the wood, and cut them into appropriate size right there on the tractor. Simple. Why put them on the X shape cutting unit? Cut them while stacked on the tractor.
