  • Yes, I have a lot of colored pencils in my collection that I use for adult coloring and art, but most of these have been purchased just to review. While I do collect some, I'm definitely looking to goo through my stash and decide what I'll keep versus what I'll remove.
    Swatch charts are from ‪@EmilyIllustrator‬ ‪@ColourwithClaire‬ ‪@amazontammy‬ and ‪@ColoringBliss‬ and Mystic Sparkle Wings on Deviant Art. Some are charts I have created and are on my KoFi.

    Thank you for taking the (HUGE amount) of time and energy to make this video. I have loved coloring since I was a child. I still have color books from my childhood because until adult coloring became a thing, I would still color in them!!! I really appreciated being able to see all the different brands/lines/collections and hearing about how they perform AND seeing the swatch charts!!! I can’t thank you enough for all the invaluable info. Lastly, I hate that you have to put disclaimers/rules about making sure people aren’t jerks. We could be spending OUR OWN money on way worse crap!! ❤❤

    What a lovely collection! I have a fairly large assortment of pencils as well and I don't even do UA-cam. 😀 It sucks that we live in a world where UA-camrs have to include disclaimers about having large collections of things that they have a healthy enthusiasm for because there are so many folks who'd never been raised around the old (but timeless),"If you can't think of something nice to say, don't say anything at all" mantra (or think it doesn't apply to online interaction). I personally enjoy seeing people showing off the things that interest them.
    Sidenote: I think just about all of us who purchased the Phoenix pencils did so almost exclusively because of the packaging. LOL!!

    Hi everyone, I am a colouring pencil addicted :)
    Question: If you transfer the pencils from their tins to the pencil cases, how can I repurpose the tins?
    Suggestions: I believe there is no such thing as a bad pencil. One just needs to find its complementary paper. If the colour doesn't look good on white paper, I highly highly recommend Kraft (brown with slight texture) paper. Try the inside of a cereal box if you don't have any. It will give new life to those pencils that may be dull or scratchy.

    • @thesleeplessspook
      @thesleeplessspook Рік тому +7

      I always recycle tins to become watercolor palettes. I just attach a magnet to the bottom of the watercolor paint pan so it stays put inside the tin, and the lid makes a handy place to attach a swatch sheet to map/label the colors. If you paint with watercolor, this is a huge cost-saver because those metal palettes for paints can be quite expensive, depending.
      If you collect stickers or washi tape, the pencil tins are lovely for storing them.
      I'm looking forward to seeing other answers to this question! :-)

    • @sugarcandy243
      @sugarcandy243 Рік тому +6

      I usually repurpose the tins to hold something else.
      Ex: my Derwent Lightfast tin currently holds all my stencils (I use these with inks for backgrounds and in my bullet journal).
      My Luminance boxes (I have the 72 and the 20 portrait cases) are so gorgeous that I use them to store pencils for a particular project. This is especially useful for color-alongs since most UA-camrs list all the colors they use on the page. I will pull out those pencils and store them in the luminance boxes until the page is done (this way I don't have to keep the complete collection on my desk).
      My arteza box has my gelatos, prismacolor box holds my distress inks. The Polychromos tin holds my various watercolor brushes, the Albrecht Durer tin has my small collection of markers and pens (usually came in flimsy boxes that I had to throw away).
      After all, why waste money buying more organization supplies when pencil companies so thoughtfully send us sturdy metal tins?!

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic
      @ColorfullyOptimistic  Рік тому +5

      Looks like you got some ideas! I will keep them in a pile and use them for a variety of things. Sometimes I spray paint them and do cute mixed media tops and then use them in my craft room to store other things like gel crayons. Or, I use them to turn into gift tins or give them to my kiddos

    I love coloring supply and haul videos. Sometimes I have to take a break from haul videos because I want to buy everything. LOL! We always can use more purples!! I agree with on the Pablos. When everyone said creamy I was like ewwwww but I also got mine from Amazon. Sooooo, maybe I should give them another chance. Especially love the idea of using the greens with the Polys. ALSO, completely agree about the smell of Polys!!! But the Derwent Graphitint come in a great second place. I do not like the Arrtx for Amazon paper. The first couple I did, I was like, this is OK. But after a couple more, I was like, this is too much work. Now I do like using them in my Maria Trolle and Hanna Karlzon books. They are nice for that. I love the Bruts too. I have a spare set but not new enough to have the names on them. I just got a set of the SFarbens last week and, so far, I am enjoying them! I got the 72 set. The black Edition (FC) actually do come in a larger set of 50 and then there is a 12 set of Neon and Pastel colors. A total of 62. I got them off Amazon. I hated the Colorsoft so much that I just gave them away. I was too heavy handed, at the time. At least they are loved now! Those Inktense do last a long long time. I have one shorter one. A purple. LOL. Also, only available in the UK, are the new Intense colors and I want them BAD!! Check out Colouring with Dan's video on them. Before I write a book, I will just say, you have a very lovely collection. :)

      Well, even the Blick Pablos are still not "creamy" haha. But, my definition of creamy is what Prisma is. Oh yes, the Graphitint do smell awesome. Mine are out of the tin, since I combined them with a few other watersoluble graphite pencils. Apparently, the Black Edition go up to 100 now, but I'm definitely not buying anymore. I need to use what I have lol

    I’ve learned a few things about myself from this video. I love the harder pencils that layer well … My current faves are the Lyras as an affordable base set, then filling in missing colors using the polychromos, luminance and lightfast. I have a few koh-i-noor polycolors that I like… also have a few ergosofts I like.
    I HATE my prismas. Too soft… I think I don’t press hard by default, and I hate that it can’t hold a point. I have the 150 set that is still pretty brand new. Let me know if you want to swap them for something harder from your collection. Thanks for sharing!!

    Wonderful video! I always am amazed how people perceive things differently-which is what makes life interesting. Prismas are still my favs and to me the best smelling pencils ever! Pablo’s are my second favorite smelling pencil :-) I had to laugh when you said Polys are not “scratchy” because scratchy is exactly how I describe them. I have tried them several times and they are just not for me. Pablo’s are a layering pencil like the Ergosoft and Castle Arts Soft Touch pencils. I love all three of them! So great to get your opinions of all your pencils. I also did my swatch charts using the disc system and really love it because it makes it easier to take them out and use them. Thank you and happy coloring. :-)

    Dealing with trolls is a problem throughout social media. Never take them to heart(easy to say, not so easy to do). Their comments are 100% about them, not about you! Either they are having a bad day, and you are their chosen target for the moment, or they are just unpleasant people. 👾 Never feel like you have to apologize for blocking them... 🤗 You have an incredible collection of pencils!! 😍 You need to set up a pencil library, lol!! 😅 Wouldn't that be frustrating!! I have mostly only followed Pamela's Passion for Pencils. One of the interesting things I found is how opposite your styles are. That is an awesome thing!! 👍 People from all perspectives can enjoy pencils!! 💖 You do a lot of portrait work, and it sounds like and like mandelas. Pamela does a lot of flowers and leaves. She LOVES the pencil cases you dislike so much! 😂 That made me laugh, but you both love prismacolor and polys a lot! She is almost OCD about her organization, which I find awe-inspiring as I couldn't organize myself out of a paperbag!! 😉 She does have some beautiful swatch charts on her etsy, AND, get this, she enjoys organizing and swatching her pencil sets!!! 😱 Watching her process of organizing her pencil sets for swatching just floors me. I think your idea of getting already organized swatch sheets is more my style, lol!! 👏 I enjoyed your straightforward way of analyzing the sets. Always remember, each pencil set has a paper and a colorist that they would be right at home with. Sometimes, the paper makes a huge difference! Giving away sets you don't use makes a lot of sense to me. May they all find their way to someone who loves them as much as you do some of your sets. Too many sets can get frustrating and confusing! As a beginning colorist, I'm wondering what pencil set(s) work best on Amazon paper as so many of the coloring books I have are on those papers...

    For me personally I am a Derwent lightfast lover and I love my polychromos along with of course the prismas. The Derwent chromaflow are a super opaque pencil and so for coloring I find a lot of uses for them, and I hope that someday I will have a second set of them. Although I don't have very many irojitins I really really love them and only wish that I could have the book sets. I love the castle arts soft touch, I find the castle arts gold to have a problem of being very crumbly. Although the colors have enough depth variance and additional colors to make them worth owning for me. I have a few Pablo's and luminance and in truth I wish to someday get my hands on the full set of Pablo's, as far as luminance I hope to get the remaining percentage colors that I don't have. You are so blessed that you have all these opportunities to play with different kinds. I'm so happy for you. I had a similar experience with Pablo. Back in 2017 I purchased a couple open stock from a local (now closed) art store in the area and did not like them. I couldn't understand what the hype was. Fast forward to 2019 and I picked up a couple more open stock from Blick (as I had given the couple I had away) and lo and behold I actually enjoyed them. My guess, is that in 2017 I was still getting accustomed to certain pencil brands, different papers, and my coloring style. By 2019, I had most of that down and knew what I was doing, (well mostly. 😅 ) Plus, I truly think it was the paper I initially played with them on. You're right, they do not like smooth paper. I feel like they drag on it and don't blend well at all, but Amazon paper they work well on I've found, especially mixed with Poly's. Yes, the Polychromos smell amazing! We had a fire an old apartment complex we lived at in 2017, neighbor on the 1st floor caught his stove on fire. We had to be evacuated from our apartment and had smoke stench on a ton of our belongings. I remember being upset that my polys stunk.I was worried they wouldn't come back to their glorious smell. 😂 I kept them in the tin at the time and they eventually did. Solo tengo Polychromos, pero el juego completo de 120, que ya me parece lo más, así que no puedo ni imaginar lo que será poder disfrutar de una colección tan impresionante como la tuya. Por cierto, coincido totalmente contigo en los verdes que más me gustan. Los metálicos están bien para añadir algunos reflejos sobre otros colores.
    Aunque me tienta probar otras marcas, a base de cera, por ejemplo, prefiero practicar con estos y sacarles todo el rendimiento. Al fin y al cabo, con cualquier juego de lápices de buena calidad se pueden obtener excelentes resultados. He visto dibujos idénticos hechos con lápices tan distintos como Polychromos y Luminance, aunque supongo que la sensación al usarlos es diferente. Estoy tan acostumbrada al modo de pintar con los Polychromos que no sé si me gustaría usar otros más cremosos. Creo que compraré algunos sueltos para probar.

Well, I recently challenged myself to use my set of 30 and the few open stock ones I have on a coloring page and so far, I really like them. Idk if I've just become more open to harder pencils and I've gotten better at using them, but I like them a lot now. I can see myself using my set often in the future.
    Also, I'm a bit sad to hear that the Phoenic Colored Pencils arent that good and have a lot of filler. I've been eyeing them for a few months now and a lot of people have given them good reviews so I wanted to try them out. I might still buy them anyways since they aren't too expensive on Aliexpress. Plus, they're just so pretty and I'm sure I could find something to use them for.

    The internet has made ppl too comfortable with being rude and nasty. You can own ten times this amount if you want to. I have a whole art room filled with art supplies and I don’t even have a YT channel 😂😂😂

    Yay! Love the update. Agree with you on all the pencils (and I am
    Shocked how many of these I own myself😂) except the prisma’s. I want to like them, but mine keep breaking.. might have a bad set or something 🤷🏾‍♀️
    Also if u have a subscriber in latin america you can ask them to ship you a 100pc set of the faber castell black edition (supersoft I think they are called). I got a set myself last year for about $30 and I love them!!
    Thanks for the video it was worth the wait🎉

      I heard the 100 count was out. I think you can get them on certain Amazons. They are very soft for sure, but I think right now I'm going to work on paring down my stash. I just feel I have so many I don't use.

    Nice video. It was fun. Who cares if you do collect pencils? They are beautiful, and your not hurting anyone! I love pencils too. I have three sets, looking at more, and I am just a hobbyist.

    great video. HAve a lot of these in my collection. Interesting what you thought of the castle arts gold versus the star joy gold. I have found the reverse in that the star joy are over priced for what they are compared to the castle arts. that could probably have something to do with the fact i live in UK. I had to mortgage an arm and a leg to get a set of 48 prismas and so underwhelmed by them that they didn't live up to the hype for me. But as i'm not a producer of videos just a fan - its not a big deal. It would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing. Of course being British I have all the Derwent sets. All the best.

    Hi! Thank you very much for sharing your views and your experienced using your collection of pencils, I've really enjoyed it :-) As I was watching it I thought it would be great if you made a video sharing your experience with different types of papers for coloured pencils :-) I don't know if you've already made one, please if you have I'd love to watch it. Cheers!

      I haven't done that yet, but it is definitely on my list of to dos. I will probably do a video per pencil only because doing one video would really be hard to follow haha

    Fantastic video Kori! This is very educational for anyone that is just beginning and has no idea where to start with pencil brands. I’m sort of with you about the Arrtx, I’m not really sure what it is about them but not really digging them at this point. The only Holbein I own is the soft white which I just purchased off of Amazon for at least $7, so yeah the open stock is crazy. The next more expensive set I’d like to own are the Pablo’s so I appreciated your thoughts on those. I have a different set of Bruynzeel-Design, they’re in a cool wood box that has drawers that pull out but it’s a set of only 48 colors and I never use it. Guess I should give them some love. That’s the hard part with all of these collections we have, it’s never ending and there’s no possible way to use everything. Honestly, I find it very overwhelming but I did it to myself.😏 Oh well, it’s an addiction like most everything else. We’re addicted to color!😍

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic
      @ColorfullyOptimistic  Рік тому +2

      Yes, so the Bruynzeel Design and Expressions are two different lines from the same company -- so not the same pencil. Design is their more artist grade, while Expression is student-grade :)

    I made it through the entire video... I really enjoyed your thoughts on the pencils. I do have quite a few of the sets you do (not all, though - especially since some are hard to get in Europe), and some that you don't For the most part, I share your opinions - maybe except the fact that I do really love my Arteza set and use them much more than prismas. Are you planning a similar video for the watercolour pencils? I am excited about the new Inktense colors - but that will mean moving them to a case... so few mixed feelings there. I've seen some swatches, and the colors are lovely... so ... new pencil case it is...

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic
      @ColorfullyOptimistic  Рік тому

      Yes, I think I had mentioned it, but might not have. But, yes, I plan to do one for the watercolor pencils for sure.
