Mr Hill was best known for starring in the films, 'Titanic', and 'Lord of the Rings.'
He's the only actor to have starred in two films that won eleven Oscars.

Comin Con Liverpool said: “We’re heartbroken to hear the news of Bernard Hill’s passing. A great loss.”

Forever breaks my heart: I lost a brother at a young age (he was 6, I was 8) and I always envisioned my father delivering those lines, which Bernard did very authentically, to the point it doesn't feel like a film anymore, or fiction: it's just a father grieving for his son. And now we grieve for the man himself, God Bless and Keep Bernard Hill in the "next adventure", RIP Bernard Hill.

I remember my parents were in the process of a divorce around the time of the movies coming out. My dad was taking it hard, his family was all he'd known since he was 19 or so, now he was 46, and it was like his world was falling apart. He didnt understand why i loved lotr as much as i did, even going so far as to say he'd burn my copies of the books because he said they were too much for me. He was a paranoid mess. He took me to see return of the king, fairly unhappy about it, but he knew i was crazy to see it on opening night. When Theoden gave his speech, it was like we were the same age for a minute. When they charged, he was sat forward in his seat with his eyes wide open. A few months later when we got the dvd, id hear him watching the rohirrim charge downstairs, full blast on the speakers. I think Theoden and Bernard Hill's performance genuinely gave him a new lease on life, showed him that even when it seems like your best days are behind you, you still have purpose, so long as you don't give up.
RIP Bernard Hill and condolences to his family, what a great man he was

No overstatement, this man changed my life. I used to look up to Frodo and Aragorn, but the older I got, the more I related to “the stupid king” as I called him in my youth. Théoden is one of the most incredible characters ever put to paper and film. With the gathering darkness in this world, often do I have to look for my courage. Nihilism would be easier. When I do, I always look up the Ride of the Rohirrim. This one scene always lifts my hearts and reminds me to be a better person. To go forth, and fear no darkness!

King Theoden had one of the greatest arcs in The Lord of the Rings. Bernard Hill played him so well, no one could have done it like that. The emotion he could transfer through the screen is only matched by Aragorn and Gandalf, and thats saying something. The way he rode out his steed Snowmane like the valar of hunting Oromë did in the days when the world was young, really put tears into my eyes. No one could keep up with king Theoden as he rode and the orcs trembled with fear as the king of Rohan furiously mowed them down. Then after maybe an hour the orc army of 10 times Rohans seize got routed and even when the Haradrim and their Oliphaunts got closer he attacked them head on to finally be slain by the Witchkings fell beast, not even by the Witchking himself, mind you, because that sucker probably was too afraid to fight him 1 on 1.

And he withstood Sauron through the palantir longer than Saruman, who is the head of the white council of wizards. But he got brainwashed by Sauron into thinking that all was lost but yet Sauron couldn't control his mind, so his willpower was very strong.

⚔️🐎⚔️ So passes Théoden King, son of Thengel, to rest among the great of his kindred. ⚔️🐎⚔️
In the grand tapestry of Middle-earth's saga, King Théoden of Rohan emerges as a colossus, a beacon of resilience amidst the encroaching shadows of Sauron's tyranny and a towering figure in the Lord of the Rings story. His journey, akin to a phoenix rising from ashes, ignites the hearts of all who witness it. Bernard Hill, with his masterful portrayal, breathed life into Théoden's soul-stirring metamorphosis, etching his name in the annals of cinematic greatness. Through Hill's portrayal, Théoden's roar echoed across the plains of Rohan, rallying warriors and stirring hope in the hearts of all who dared face the darkness. Bernard Hill's portrayal captured Théoden's inner turmoil, strength, and eventual resurgence with a raw, compelling authenticity, making him unforgettable in the cinematic adaptation. A monumental loss. 💔

I first saw him on TV when he played Richard of York in the Wars of the Roses section of Shakespeare’s history plays. I was just a kid then but I thought he was magnificent and have never forgotten that performance nor any subsequent roles that he played. A great actor in the truest sense.

It’s a Bank Holiday here in the UK and a rainy one too. I have walked the dog, made a cup of tea and just put the extended version of TFOTR on the dvd player and will watch the trilogy knowing that Theoden’s death will have extra poignancy this day.

This made me sad, really. I hope he is at peace. I watch the Rohirrim charge every so often, because it's so inspiring. Good vs Evil, the good fight. Theoden is my favourite character in LOTR and that's a lot because of how Bernard Hill played him.

Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it. White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
