Sometimes I wonder if the transition to being carried in Big Box Stores like Target results in product quality declines as money is shifted from R&D to production to scale up. I have no idea (I don't have any professional knowledge in that arena) but it seems like I've seen that happen with a handful of small brands that have made it "big." It doesn't go so well at first.
That's the joy (or not!) of foundations - how they wear can be so individualized by body chemistry and skin types and a myriad of other things! I try to find my skin twins out on UA-cam and hope for the best when it comes to recommendations, but even then it varies. :)
For me oily foundations just slide around and fall into all of my lines/wrinkles that I'm constantly tapping out. :-/ W3LL, at least the foundation and concealer match in performance. Lol! I really dig the Profusion palettes. The purples especially perform well in that they actually look purple when applied. I don't know why that color is so difficult to formulate but Profusion has figured it out. :-) How I avoid the "Mimi" look is to apply the bright/shimmer shadow to the outer third of my lid, then I apply a small dab of a dark, matte shade over it just in the outer corner so only a little of the brighter color peeks out on the edge. Love the eye look you did here Shelly! I love a deep smokey brown on the outer corners. :-) Hope all is well with you. After 3 weeks of "stay at home" I'm starting to get a bit stir crazy! Thanks for continuing to upload, so appreciated! :) Remembering someone's comment earlier this week about having weird dreams....I dreamed the other night that someone broke into my house and stole my water heater!! WTF??
LOL of all the things to steal!! 😂😂😂I had one long rambling bizarre dream last night! For some reason I was in a mall parking deck, and there was confusion over what level to go in. I was with someone but I can't remember who, and I was ordered to go bring things to different departments. So I had a ream of paper to bring to housewares, and when I got there, they were like no, that goes up to communications (what? why did a Kohls-like store have a communications department?) Then I got to that department and for some reason I had to explain that I was dropping off a magazine for my colleague that was retiring (well... in real life this is a colleague from my school from 10 years ago, who retired even longer before that!) So everybody wished him congrats and then I went outside and I was supposed to pick up my Jeep from valet (valet parking at the mall? what happened to the parking deck?), and there was nobody there, and when the guy finally came and sent me to my Jeep, it was a red Jeep, but somehow it was mine (even though in real life mine is teal)..... and that's all I remember. 😂
@@goow LOLOLOL!! I forgot to mention that in my dream I was with my adult nephew sitting in lawn chairs in my basement when I suddenly noticed my water heater was missing! :-D! LOL! This isolation is working some weird sh*t!
Yeah, I agree. So, I am curious about the by Terry hyaluronic hydra foundation. I know this may not be for me, as their products tend to have a lot of fragrance. I do know that they make great products, though. Also, I'm wondering how this compares to the Clarins skin illusion foundation. Hmmmm...
I ordered the By Terry. It is supposed to arrive this week!! I think it's literally coming from France?? Some sort of air post. (They didn't have it at Beautylish so I ordered straight from the By Terry site).
I fully acknowledge that often it looks ridiculous on me, but I'm going to be that old lady in the senior home with purple hair and a beaming highlight on all of my wrinkles, living it up! 😂
@@goow - that's hilarious! My daughter often bemoans the fact that although I spend up to an hour doing my make up - there is no colour. No bright eyeshadow, no blusher, highlighter or any lip colour at all. I don't do colour in my clothes or home either. What can I say? 🤷♀️😊
No rules gal, and I like that!😀 Enjoyed this video with all the makeup fun! Love the eye look and lip. Really want to order colors of this lip, as I think the nice wear time and pretty looks from your previous lip video will be lovely! Hope you’re doing well teaching remotely.💕
Thanks, Christina! Doing well so far. We will see as the first set of online deadlines approaches... then it'll be clear who's making progress and who fell off the grid. :-/ Fingers crossed that I can help all of my students get through this!
I do love green eyeshadow on you! Nice!! And that lippie - gotta a love a lippie that makes your teeth look that white. The foundation, I was thinking it's gonna have be fantastic to beat my beloved Fast Base Stick (how pretty it is on my skin, and specially considering how affordable and relatively easy to access it is for us Aussies).... and well.... nope. The colour was kinda okay, but it just didn't look as nice/perform as well as I remember the Fast Base doing on you (or me for that matter, it's just such a nice foundation - I really don't think there's a stick foundation that can beat it). I do love your woodland "back yard" - lucky you.
Yeah Fast Base is a tough stick to beat! I have more shades of that foundation than any other I've ever owned :) The back yard is definitely helping me through all of this. It's comforting to watch the deer and the squirrels and birds just doing their everyday things, not knowing that anything is different from any other day.
I assumed this would be a dud based on the concealer review. I was right. I will continue to wait for the Estee Lauder Futurist hydrating foundation to eventually arrive in Canada.
I find stick foundations to be tricky in general. When you said that it was oil based my dry skin and I got hopeful. But, alas, this would not work for me. I’m super happy that you’ve reviewed this one. Thanks, girlie🍃🌸
Thanks, Mary! I've got one on some new skin care products I've been testing coming on Monday (and I think it clocked in at like 27 minutes, yikes!) 😂I've been hoarding new stuff to talk about in this video and went overboard lol.
I’ve only tried a couple oil based foundations and never had any luck with them. The one I remember specifically was the Josie maran argon oil foundation and still to this day its one of the worst foundations I’ve ever tried. It’s weird bc I’ve got such dry skin and you’d think it would work well.
Same. So bad just thinking about it, I wore it out the first time I tried it!! Everybody but me saw that shit and knew but said nothing....so,so bad!!❤
I'm very dry so this stick foundation would not be my friend. But your eye look... 🔥 I'm totally recreating that with products I have from Rimmel and Colourpop.
hi, shelly! w3ll heck. i will not be trying this. my skin is so much more mature than yours so it's not going to work for me. i would imagine my makeup sliding off my face with this one. hope you have a good weekend ahead. stay safe and stay well! ~k
I recently tried this one too. I am 38, suffering from perioal dermatitis so I thought I'd use something more "natural" nope. Even on my good skin areas it didnt work well.
😂😂 You're funny. I didn't like that foundation either. I tried a sample of it. It felt really thick and heavy on my skin. And none of the shades I tried that were in the light range looked good on me.
I really appreciate your foundation reviews - you put a lot of work into them and it shows. Thank you. Now, two things... the swatches. Do each of those shades work for you? Each one is really, really different. I usually look to see which product I might have and compare it to the shade I usually choose - we have several that match and the shades seem to work well for you. Do you film the swatches in different lighting? This stick foundation looked very dark in the swatches but when you were filming the demo, it looked like a shade I'd probably choose! Ok, enough about shades. Now do I have a highlighter for you! (That horrified look on your face when you realized you were highlighter-less was fabulous!!) Try the Milani Baked Highlighter in Dolce Perla - you'll never miss that Natasha Denona highlight. I know, treason!! But it's true - that works SO very well for our skin tone. You will not regret it. Thanks for the video - happy weekend and stay well out there!!!
Hi Diane! The swatches are filmed in the same lighting but occasionally I have to film them at night instead of day, so during the day there is additional sunlight in the room where at night it's just the studio lights. (Sometimes I'm running late in the AM and don't have time to get the swatches in!) The swatches are not always my perfect match shades; I try to pick a variety of a similar kind and price range of foundation so that if someone knows their match in one that I show they can see how that day's foundation compares. My best matches are in the ballpark of Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place in 1C1 Cool Bone, MAC NW10 in the winter/NW15 in the summer, CYO LifeProof 101, Make Up For Ever R230 as long as I'm not self-tanning. Most of the year I match those, and I get maybe a half shade to a shade darker in the summer sometimes. Self tanning I'm usually 2 shades darker.
I love foundation sticks for convenience but I do find them to be finicky, so far only drugstore I like is Colourpop, I liked WnW a lot but they did me dirty 😂 thanks for reviewing!
Geek Out of Water, I certainly wouldn’t! $52 worth of crap based on mature skin. The fact that they didn’t use oils that would meld with the skin leaving you with foundation “dots” was just wrong.
@@goow I like their mascara. They are one of the only companies (clean, cruelty free, or otherwise) to make brown mascara! It isn't the best right at the outset, so I open it a few days in a row, to let some air in, and then it's ready to use lol . It's a nice no-makeup-makeup mascara that gives a bit of volume and length but because it isn't black, it doesn't look obvious. I can even build it up to bigger impact. It's not the Ilia mascara, but for a clean mascara (and the fact that they make a brown version!!) it's decent.
I think what ruins this foundation for me is the beeswax. I bought this when I first saw it in my Target and I felt like the waxy-ness of the product really confused the way this worked on my skin. I feel like the wax makes the pigment more difficult to deposit and it doesn't help it meld well enough into the skin. This foundation just sits on top of the skin and doesn't let the good stuff sink into the skin. It's a bummer and I wish they'd reformulate.
I saw this coming...but there's been lots of good ones as of late. I don't know why I'm talking like Shakespeare...me thinks I douth have ye olde cabin fever. Alas, I must take leave ....soon dammit
LOL I woke up this morning and thought, "Sometimes you just want to wear pants," and put on jeans instead of my new uniform of pajama pants. We might be in the Matrix right now.
