Naturenerd1000 I certainly agree with your point. I believe that schooling as it has been practiced till now in the society is a very useless way of acquiring knowledge. I myself, prefer to spend lesser time in a boring classroom and take a part in some stuff that attract my attention and enthusiasm instead.
I used to have the same thoughts, kinda still do. But when you go to school, it really tests you to see if you have interest in the subject by the time you graduate. Weeds out the people that only like the subject on the surface.
I've wondered about this, but not ascribing the reason for our "learned" ADHD to Google (or other search engines) or even the internet itself... I've considered more that the combined electronic media in general is causing this - we have too much information thrown at us at any given time, all of it begging for "importance in consideration". I have wondered whether we become inured to "importance", all in the quest to sell more commercial advertisements. Perhaps I am only cynical, however.

Having more information than ever, being able to use it immediately and reading more than ever is making you stupid? Right... Tell you what Nicholas, the reason why your brain is changing and your behaviour patterns is changing is just because you're getting old, that's all. You look exactly like the kind of interested and intelligent guy that get terrorized when you start to feel going downhill. Then something must be at fault. I remember these BS arguments about TV too.
@mark95427 I guess you missed the point. People that watch TV 24/7 don't read books. TV didn't do it. They watch TV because they are unwilling to do other stuff from the start. Not the other way around.
lmao trying to watch this but i keep getting on facebook and tuning it out, reality check haha well im in school 8 hours a day i guess i use my mind enough
This such bullshit! i'm part of a generation that has grown up on computers i use the internet all the time i'm a massive gamer and my computer is my life.. sounds sad yes, but i find it really easy to "reflect" on my life and can use my brain to have deep meaningful thoughts for prolonged periods. The internet is a great source for information. It's sad to see the bitterness older generations have on us younger generations when it comes to technology! Peace out!
Who else is in college English
I am! Why?

Good to know English teachers are still recycling the same articles over and over, really glad we're progressing.
5 years later, it's my turn LOL
My essay will be due within an hour and I'm still thinking what to write for my intro 🙄🙄🤔
Hi
I think school does this too because it makes you sit for 6 hrs. and you have to learn 6 subjects everyday.

its not making us stupid its rewiring our brain to process information differently which makes it difficult to do things that we did before.
this video was too long i couldn't concentrate lol!! can you make a 30 second one?? thankq!!
Yeah, it's a whole five minutes long. Are you trying to be sarcastic?
Same. 😭

It's startling how profoundly this comment misses Carr's points.

It is a choice to be distracted and technology is not responsible for your decision.
