The only instrument that has ever made me bleed while playing it was my electric ukulele Not even my guitars have done it, and I've played them for longer than I played my electric uke
Agreed! I always heard rumours that my biggest music hero John Coltrane would practice so much in his early life that there’d be blood on his reeds. I was practicing slap bass for the first time in my 20 years of playing last summer and got a blood blister on my thumb but kept going and it busted and bled all over my strings, the ultimate sacrifice to the music gods! It was an honour. 🥰🥰
@@thrashtronaut999ya definitely should not have a string hitting that spot of your inner nail? The bleeding happens to me when I play djent once in a blue moon. Either chug, or more likely pinch harmonics that do it
Yeah I agree I would call that dedication too, but playing until you bleed isn’t what you should do. Speaking from experience, the time it takes to recover is longer than the time it takes to rest between practice sessions, so you end up practicing less if you get hurt.
Why not, I love adding bass chords to beef up my sound. I’m a lead bassist, sometimes when my guitar player is taking his solo, since we don’t have another guitar player, I’ll strum chords along with open strings to beef up my sound and act as rhythm guitar and bass.
Been there done that it’s so satisfying that all your practice pays off when you get in to that groove of playing something right remember my fellow guitar nerds even the greatest guitar player messed up and learn every day!
I was performing on acoustic for three hours once and literally three fingers were bleeding at the end of it, and I didn’t even notice till I saw the blood all over my strings when I got home lol
My first ever live performance with a crowd the same thing happened to me. It was 8th grade, talent show, my band played Unsung by the band Helmet and by the end of the song my white pickguard on black jazz bass looked like splatter paint by Lucifer. Me, personally, I wouldn’t wipe it off. Let that shit stain the wood. It’s a dope aesthetic.
I strum with just my fingers all the time, even with my 10-52s on my electric it draws some blood quite often. But that’s how you know you’re actually *feeling* the music
I once when I was busking I strum my accoustic guitar so strum and mostly the strungs with my index as i was hold the pick. I didn't realize afterwards that some of the skin of my index was gone.😅
I've had that happen to me a few times, but i never managed to get it on my guitar like that lol. rock on dude, and i wish your hand a speedy recovery :)
That's called pulling a Zach Wyld. Metal musicians have absolutely shredded their fingers and bled all over the place mid show. Be proud young padawan.
I started on acoustic. Gouged out the frets on my electric guitars in under a year.... to me they are entirely different instruments. I have very large hands, what ive found works best for me when it comes to electic is to play as gently as possible. Turn the volume up if you gotta. I do wish i had started with an electric guitar, but at the time i had no desire to play electric music. Now its almost all i do. Ahhh, life and the passage of time... bless all yall!
True, they are different. I am also primarily an acoustic player. When I first tried the electric guitar, it sounded slightly out of tune. Turns out, you can push the strings too hard 🤣.
I love the sounds you get from hitting an instrument hard. As a bass player I can get away with it, but as a guitar learner I find my Junior puts up with the abuse pretty well. My strat makes bad noises sometimes and refuses to stay in tune when I beat on it.
That should never happen lmao. You really shouldn’t try strumming quickly or with a lot of energy until you’ve perfected an ergonomic motion that puts a small amount of stress on your fleshy bits
i literally felt this when I started playing my Electric Guitar💀💀, MY HANDS HURT WAY MORE , the transition from notmal nylon strings is real (AND YES I KEPT GOING EVEN IF MY HANDS STARTS HURTING 😂😂😂)
I always thought it was a joke about cutting your fingers on the strings because I’ve never cut mine, and I’ve played guitar since I was 4. I’m 25. I didn’t believe it till I saw a dude spray blood on his guitar.
I love when this happens especially in the middle of a set and then you have 3 or 4 more gigs back to back that week, sometimes being a musician is an absolute nightmare.
I knew I was gonna love guitar the first night I started. I was forming blisters like 20 minutes in and I kept going for another 2 hours bled all over it but it was so worth it. Learned a whole fingerstyle song in that time. It was pretty simple but the next day I took what I learned from it and made my own thing with those sorts of shapes. I kinda miss those days when the guitar was so foreign, it was so uncomfortable to hold and a simple power chord felt like a stretch but the progression was so fast in the beginning it was so rewarding. It still is but sometimes it’s not
