Both videos are heartbreaking, but this one you can hear the pain and despair in Chester’s voice. Chris Cornell was lead singer for Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog. He and Chester were very close. Chris lost his battle with depression the day this video was recorded, then a few months later, on Chris’s birthday, depression took Chester. Both were amazingly talented as well as amazing people over all. Horrible loss. “ Who cares if one more light goes out, well I do”💔😢🥺

No, the album One More Light was released the day after Chris' death, May 19th which was the day of this performance, tecnically the song was written and recorded way before, but was dedicated to Chris and then Chester himself.

They had literally got the news about Chris in the dressing room just prior to going onstage in this video and Mike said they tried to rehearse this song before going on and Chester couldn't make it through so they were in a shocked mindset going on. Chester and Chris were so close that Chester was the Godfather to Chris's daughter and Chris was a godfather to one or more of Chester's children. So this is very real pain and as you saw Chester couldn't finish the last line. And then we know what happened just 2 months later.... rest in peace Chester and Chris.🤍
Ok, so, a little background:
They (or, to be exact, Mike (the one playing the piano here) did) after a woman who has worked at their label for years had died of cancer. It's the title of their seventh album.
A day before the album was released, Chris took his own life. He was the lead singer of soundgarden and audioslave, had toured with the band in 2008 (look up LPTV end of projekt revolution 2008, it shows them together) and was friends with them, but especially with Chester, who was actually the godfather to his kids.
Chester died just 2 months after this. He did it the exact same way as Chris, and actually died ON CHRIS'S BIRTHDAY, which is why people speculate the grief was one of the things that drove him to do it. After the fact, everybody said that he was not the same after Chris had passed.
This song is even more heartbreaking, when you put it in this context.
(And btw, the music video was made after Chester passed. The band noticed that all the fans gravitated towards this song and used it in tributes, so they decided to make it an official single and make a music video, with a montage of different videos of Chester.)
The original version is just like this one, just light music. You should look the official video, it was made after his passing. He comitted suicide 2 months after this performance...
When Chester went and when Chris Cornell went that was those moments I really mourned ppl I've never ever knew and I almost felt wrong for doing so since I never knew them personally, but they moved me and they made me feel,so I genuinely mourned them. So I loved this reaction, since I'm obviously crying like a crazy person,lol. Hugs.

Chris Cornell was the lead singer of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave. Of course not all at the same time. Chris took his own life and it destroyed a lot of people including Chester who was a super close friend of his. Hence the reason of Chester taking his own life on Chris Cornell"s birthday. 😪

The song was originally written about a friend of the band who died of cancer. But it's meaning has of course become much bigger.

You got to check out Chris Cornell singing “Nothing compares to U” live acoustic, originally a prince song it’s awesome and he’s got one of the best rock voices of all time. Chris was best mates with Chester and unfortunately he took his own life then months later we lost Chester this was his last performance.

I'm not sure after watching this that you know that Chris Cornell was one of his best friends which killed himself bevore. Chester killed himself on Chris Birthday shortly after. So thats why he was so emotional and felt it that much. One of the saddest and best performances I ever saw.

That scream is in the album version but they use it in the background
The scream isn't in the original song, but if you listen closely to the music video, there is a similar sound at the same part in the song. Almost like a synthetic scream/melody, but it has a similar power behind it. Idk how to explain it.

My best friend committed suicide and in his note he asked for this song to be played as his coffin was taken.

Chester died only a month after this I believe. The whole situation is incredibly sad. I won't go into the conspiracies surrounding his and Chris's death but if you're interested its really goddamn weird how everything matches up and it is terrifying.

Chris was the singer of Soundgarden. Great band. You should check out their music. It was in the grunge era (early 90’s), and i had a long term boyfriend who played their music on repeat. So I “kinda” know the music. Lol! Anyway I got a message to him telling him I was sorry to hear of Chris taking his life, and I know how much he loved him. I was surprised that he responded by saying thank you. I broke it off with him after three years, so I was surprised to hear from him....It wasn’t a pretty breakup. 😬

Some of us believe they were going to release sensitive info to make people aware of the horrors happening & their deaths were staged as suicides. Very sad.

Chester couldn't sing it to the end on the rehersals, he ended up in tears almost every time. Chester commited suicide exactly 2 months after Chris the same way as he did, on July 20th 2017. It was Chris' birthday... Many people blame Chris for Chester's death, like they don't want to even think what he was going through. There is no one to blame.

oh, and the 'I do' scream was in the original track, but it was so edited that you wouldn't recognize it as a human voice, in the video there's a video of Chester screaming in that moment but you can't hear it too well.
