They all should’ve helped when she verbally asked for it. Instead they were just aggravated that she got back with him and said you’re on your own. All because they didn’t get to talk for a few months the last time she tried. If she was scared or aggravated there should’ve been a family intervention. Women like that are damaged and can’t think straight after going through stuff like that. They shouldn’t have placed so much blame on her at the time. Have empathy!

They helped her get out multiple times and then were treated like sh.t when she'd get back with him, because she and he threw them wanting her to leave back in their faces as not supporting of her choice to go back to him. They all had a responsibility for those innocent children though. They knew those kids were in an abusive household. From experience, unfortunately, I completely understand why the family kept a distance from the situation. Her sister even said it, the one time she intervened, they had a falling out for months. Not only does the person being abused, seem to take the abuser’s side, but they continuously ask for help and shelter, putting you and others in harms way to save them, just for them to go back to said abuser. To avoid the stress, feeling used and seeing them put the abuser first, even before their children/family, you just fall back and separate yourself from a situation. You cannot do anything to save someone who for themselves and their children doesn’t seem to want to save themselves.

It is obviously very difficult to watch someone you love remain in a difficult and horrible pattern but to say they don’t want to leave the situation isn’t always fair or understanding of their situation. Someone being abused is often deeply manipulated, controlled and so broken emotionally by the abuser such that they can’t even think of what they want. They are living each day , each minute just trying to keep their heads above water. No one wants to be abused but being in that situation often causes emotional paralysis such that the person being abused has an extremely difficult time amassing the confidence to figure a way out

I'm not saying it's the victims fault but its also not the fault of the family. People like the victim might be cut off from their family members and that's ok. The family members are looking out for themselves and deciding not to get involved in a situation that drains them constantly. Those family members have their own lives and eventually it gets to a point where there is nothing you can really do. The pattern continues and its draining in every way that you just cant continue without destroying yourself in the process.

Maybe don’t be so quick to blame them. When someone is a toxic relationship it inevitably pushes people who do love them away. To paraphrase the victim’s sister, “I can’t interfere because the last time I did, it came back on me”. What’s not said is implied, because they both knew it, but it’s this: “And you’re back with him anyway, aren’t you? So what good would it do anyway?” Of course they regret not intervening now, but at the time it’s sadly all too easy to understand why that didn’t.

She came straight to see me when she did not hear from me or got a hold of me for 4 days. She made sure he knew that if something was to happen to me police would be there in the sec. She came to get me as soon as I called, she lived in different city hours away. She saved me. I am foverever thankful for that 🙏🏻 as her love helped me to cope and survive. It must be so difficult for the family. I myself had a daughter who was involved with a Phyco who emotionally abused her. I had no contact with her for 12 months after trying to get her & their daughter away from him. He had successfully separated & isolated her from all family & friends. Luckily my Daughter finally broke away from him & we are as close as ever. It is so difficult for family & friends to watch someone they love being abused & powerless to do anything. Family & friends had staged many interventions & finally she saw the light! These narcissistic creeps have such a hold over them. Even now 5 years later my Daughter still struggles with PTSD.

What some people don't seem to understand is that there are so many reasons women don't leave their abusers, or leave and come back multiple times. For starters, from day 1, they will already start manipulating her and tearing down her entire self-worth. He will turn her against her family and friends, telling her lies like they don't really care about her, they are out to get him, etc. She will start believing him cuz he will tell her so many times she will become brainwashed. When they do actually leave and come back, its usually because he has somehow convinced her that she is damaged goods and nobody will ever want her and she's terrified of being alone. These are just examples of what their abusers do to them. They don't think rationally because their brains have been warped. So, we can't sit here and say that we know for sure we wouldn't make the same mistakes if we've never been in her shoes...
