“There are no Golden Boy peanuts left in this world as far as anyone can tell. But if I can just get spiritual with you for a moment, the song says that in hell-hell, the place of eternal suffering and torment, the place where no happiness can be found-that’s the place where no Golden Boy peanuts are. But it’s also been further observed that we now all, you and I, your parents, your friends, your enemies, strangers, all live in a place where there are no such peanuts." -- JD 02.20.2020 Swedish American Music Hall
Hello there, Paul. I had a take and I was ready to send it, but then I thought: you know, it can be done better. So, here it is then. Now I'm wearing my boots, which always guarantees a good showing
I am so happy to hear a studio recording of this. This is one of my favorite songs from the Mountain Goats lo-fi era and hearing it in studio is really exciting.
I know John has had his issues with this song, and that's fine. But for me this is not only one of The Mountain Goats' greatest songs ever, but one of the greatest songs period. It stirs something inside of me that few other songs can.
I couldn't help but think about the exchange in the Independent full concert (ua-cam.com/video/Zy82iwzTCEA/v-deo.html) : "This next song is really old." crowd goes "YEAH" "You say 'Yeah', but there were a lot of old songs that were bad." "GOLDEN BOY!" "No, not that one."
When they finally invent the best drug, one that helps you see stoplights in time and be kind to your asshole dad, it's gonna feel a lot like this song.
Who would have thought we'd live in a world where the fan favourite he will play is the much ranted about Golden Boy and not the decade long set closer Going to Georgia?

Dont be a good person because of god, because its the right thing to do, or because youre a good person, do it for the Golden Boy
You’ve missed the point of the song :)

I never thought I'd be moved by a song that says nut so many times 🥜💛

It’s so rad to see old songs being pulled out and re recorded like this
This is so underrated. One of my favorites. Can't ever not hear the intro from the record
The joy is even more transcendent in video form

Its funny that the decription of this video uses the lyrics from the original one. The intro part at least
Love the Lisa Simpson riff at the end!

Does the saxophone have a matte finish?
I dig the sax in tmg songs now, earlier a sax I would have dug less
It's just unpolished
I see what you did there
