Moon Colony Bloodbath hits me in ways nothing else I’ve ever listened to has made me feel. Hope everyone has something that speaks to them the way that this EP speaks to me.
I feel so lucky to have heard these songs in a live setting when John and John were touring this album on the 'Gone Primitive' tour. It only elevated the music/lyrics to hear these songs in an acoustic setting.
Thought about this album and wanted to put a thank you. This was my most sought out album for years, and I recently got the new pressing. I don't know if the popularity of this rip was a part of that, but it was the way I first heard the album.
Hah I just found this vinyl today. I remembered the mountain goats from moral oral so thought I’d pick it up for the dollar fifty asking price. I’m pretty happy with it :)
when when people post links in UA-cam comments, there immediately flag to sp*am some kind of weight posting a link but I do want to turn you on to something. Google the words "UA-cam to mp3" And then click on a site that says something like "y2mate" or something similar but there are other good ones too. take the link of this video and paste it in there, hit "convert to mp3" And then hit download. And boom, there's your hard copy
As hated as I may be for saying this, but I'm not a huge JV fan. That being said, Scorpio Rising hits home, and I love the harmony on Columns Pillars Steps. Thanks again, NAFW, for everything you post.
@@notasfarwest That takes all the fun out of it! It'd be about time they reissued though. Or at least made it more digitally accessible. Thanks a million for post this, it keeps me coming back year after year
I've been doing two things this week, listening to mountain goats and watching gundam. I thought this video would be related to Gundam.... I'm not disappointed though.
i wish i understood what all the songs before Emerging have to do with the organ harvesting bloodbath. Sudden Oak Death gives me chills every single time, but… how does the story connect? i love this album, but i wish i Got It.
Moon Colony Bloodbath is intentionally a concept album abandoned halfway through, with traces left kicking around. Interpretation and grasping at straws is part of the fun!
Trying to listen through this album again to pick the best song (impossible still) for a mixtape I’m making for my friend on the other side of the world while attempting to read The Legend of Zelda manga in German. And it’s not working, the album is just too good to multitask to.
Yeah, that's good. Its the same exact arrangement though...just a little less reserved...which is common with live performances versus the album version. Its a good song...i just think Vanderslice really outshines Darnielle on this album. But the 2 together is ultimately what makes it as great as it.
"This is a song about the organ harvesting colonies on the Moon, and the guy who works there and becomes a cannibal and starts eating the corpses of which he is supposed to be taking care, you know, growing kidneys for the government and stuff... This is a song about when he sort of is up there going a little crazy, you know, because he's all alone on the Moon except for all the corpses growing in the pods, and you know, and so, he begins to eat them. And this is sort of his love song to the corpses he's about to eat." -- 2009-03-20 - Attucks Theatre - Norfolk, VA

My favourite album about organ harvesting on the Moon.
Andrew Heakes Thanks for this - added to the description.
Is the best album about organ harvesting on the moon
What's your second favorite album about organ harvesting on the Moon?
@@evilbarrels2506 now i’m not Andrew but I’m willing to venture Aaron’s Party (Come Get It) is pretty high up there

Was just thinking this myself, it's a beautiful punch, this EP
i glanced at the caption and got "John Darnielle and John Vanderslice dated in 2009." on accident and totally accepted it as fact. Believable.
i ship it
"check out mr vanderslice at the merchandising table, hes attractive and I hear he's available"
They had a baby which took the form of this lovely EP.
@@jasonmichaelcook2239 must have been a rough birth.
The way their styles and voices blend together on these tracks, there’s definitely chemistry there, even if it’s only between their voices
John Vanderslice came out to the Mountain Goats show in SF with a broken leg and they played Surrounded By Machines and it was magical
I feel so lucky to have heard these songs in a live setting when John and John were touring this album on the 'Gone Primitive' tour. It only elevated the music/lyrics to hear these songs in an acoustic setting.
john darnielle just posted something on his instagram that implies this album will be reissued! so excited, i love these songs
it dropped today, did you get a copy of the 2000? it was a limited release
Just snagged mine.
Big goat fan here. have not heard this before and love it! Beautiful album. Thank you rabbit hole.
I didn't know this was a concept album about organ harvesting on the moon. Brutal.
This is the ep I come back to over and over. The songs are so majestic in scope and I can see so many details from the vivid words. Love this so much
More people should know about this EP. Thank you for uploading.
I saw VSlice play a backyard show in the hills behind Oakland in 9/2021 and he played Scorpio Rising. Amazing album
I’ve loved it for so long, Thanks for keeping it available
Wow. This is a damn gem.

This album is the best companion to the modern day 9-5 social pariah.
lowkey but also highkey one of the most beautiful records i have ever heard
This auto-cued when I was on another tab and I nearly started crying.
literally so beautiful
There is literally nothing I would not do for this vinyl.
tell me about it
I assume at this point you're in prison or possibly hyper-prison
He got sent to work forced labour on a government moon-base, growing - well, you know the rest.

I need to find this as a digital copy incase this video is ever deleted

Why isnt this a movie?
it's basically moon
Sudden oak death hits me hard, probably not as it hits them
I always get chills at the end of it

I really wish I could get this on vinyl or CD
it was just released on vinyl
brutal.
Just came across this song seconds ago for the first time. Wow
this is amazin
this is my post christmas pre new year album every year.. i am prepping
a lot of this belongs right in with the alpha canon. sudden oak death screams alpha, god john, you are fucking amazing.
I don't think it does
an long awaited sequel where they reunite and harvest blood on the moon @@snarkycommenthere9027
Yeah, the alpha couple would have absolutely nothing to do with this colony lol
i would sell my fucking soul to own this vinyl
It's on sale again for the first time since 09 right now. Hope you see this. Just bought mine
@Harrisdrew625 crazy to think about what I was doing 7 years ago. Just ordered mine thank you for commenting as I likely would not have found this out
sudden oak death is a genius song.
Let me die, let me die surrounded by dank memes

thank you.

The last time this showed up on ebay it sold for like $350

This album saved my life. I made a music video ode to The Mountaingoats and the film “Hardware” on my page for all you fans out there.

You seem like a good friend, random person on the internet. Please keep up what you are doing.
The album is so short you might as well break it up and include all of it
Surrounded is the pick of the litter, but John's version of it on Ships and Dip is superior to the record.
That's certainly a matter of opinion. I consider Surrounded to be the median for this album.

Didn’t fall for the bullshit description for a second, The Mountain Goats are waaaaayyyyy too distinctive.
What do you mean? Also although Mr. Darnielle is the main member of TMG, it doesn't mean all music he does is strictly tmg music
