  • This conversation about the Academy’s Commission on Reimagining Our Economy featured entrepreneur Reid Hoffman, sociologist Katherine Newman, and Michael Tubbs, former mayor of Stockton, CA and the founder of End Poverty in California. The program included an introduction by Academy President David Oxtoby and remarks by Chair of the Academy's Board of Directors, Goodwin Liu.
    Speakers discussed how place shapes access to economic opportunity and economic security. Topics included higher education, labor relations, and technology, particularly how artificial intelligence might impact left-behind areas. Discussants explored how a people-first approach to the economy can make tangible improvements to people’s lives and restore trust in democracy across the country.
