I love how this is framed like a psychological thriller because she really is crazy
Right!! I can’t wait to see this

Yea. Kinda like what the fake biden administration says about the poison jabs. 😡
Like that line :)
I’m glad this doesn’t seem to be a “oh she’s bad but also kind of cool” story. The trailer makes it very, very clear her greed and arrogance led her to lie and take advantage of people and that she felt entitled to money and respect even though she had no idea how science works. Truly despicable, and I’m glad this trailer didn’t sugar coat it.
Like how Inventing Anna made Anna Delvey seem cool and cunning?
The trailer is fiction BTW
Don't be so sure unfortunately. This is Hulu we're talking about who have made a show on Michelle Carter casting her in a sympathetic light.

I like how they're drawing close attention to how she faked her voice. To me, that was always her biggest, cringiest scam.

I can’t believe Kate McKinnon was originally cast for this, Amanda has absolutely nailed this role down to Elizabeth’s tics, the lack of blinking, the underbite, the voice, just brilliant acting.
I think the case of Theranos is a call my tree on the culture of silicon valley where there is so much hyping so much exaggerating that in this culture Young entrepreneurs are basically bred to behave what she done
Fun fact, Jennifer Lawrence was cast as Elizabeth in a separate project based on John Carreyrou's book, but Jennifer cancelled her movie after seeing Amanda's performance.

But I’ll still check this out bc I love Amanda

It’s very interesting with the release of this and Inventing Anna. Narcissism can be just as harmful and rampant in women as in men, it just tends to show up differently. I’m glad these are stories being told accurately without glamorizing them. 👏👏👏

It's so interesting because that's not Elizabeth's natural voice (I don't think?) she ALWAYS lowered it because she wanted to be taken seriously (like a man, of course)

I love the motifs of “drops” in this show: the dropout refers to the fact that Holmes was a wannabe Steve Jobs and thought that she could reach his level by deliberately dropping out of college. Then, you have the little vials that Theranos claimed collected small vials of blood from patients. Finally, in the trailer, there are small droplet sound effects. Well done 👏
I love at 1:28 when she was testing out the deeper voice! I can't wait for this show!
Amanda is perfectly cast for this. The whole cast is amazing. The whole story is nuts. I feel bad for the average person that actually tried to use her tech but the people that invested in it were idiots. Like how do you pump millions of dollars into something without any oversight? I put more care into my choice of kitchen appliance than these millionaires did into their investments.
Because there's LOTS of companies they try to invest in and they know a large number of them will fail.
The company is private until it decides to go public so they can show whatever results they want. Sometimes, if they f@&£ around they'll find out.
Because she fooled them all. That is why this is such a huge story. The people that invested were shown a FAKE lab, where they tested blood in one of their machines, while secretly taking it to another room, where it was tested in a standard lab, then had the results immediately sent to her. Acting as if their machine was done. The entire thing was a well thought out and executed farce. She faked reports from Pfizer and the FDA. She pulled out ALL THE STOPS, by faking the required documentation and tests. Her investors did all their due diligence. She even fooled the FDA. There is a podcast that goes into detail and the extent she went to, in order to fool so many people the way that she did. This girl is the very definition of a narcissistic con. She did not care what it took, who she hurt, or who she had to take down. It's really quite incredible.
People don't spend money unless they r assured of returns. She gave them the assurance and they believed it.
If you look who invested none of them were scientists, medics or females. The female investors pulled out. How else were these old men gonna hang out with 20 year olds?
With Science and Tech so advance and amazing news coming out all the time it's easy to believe.
I'm just pointing out that I don't think the idea here was to capture Elizabeth's physical likeness, more so her essence "behind the scenes" - the director (if I recall) expressed her genuine interest in "getting inside her mind", understanding why she did what she did and THAT is a good motive!
Edit: over 100 likes, thanks youtube 🥰

Ummm okay.
You inadvertently answered my comment. Thank you 😊.
@@SensitiveSavage I can't see your original comment (there are so many!) but that's nice 😌

I have come back to this trailer like 20 times in the last 2 weeks. The performances, the sound, the story line, it all looks so interesting. Watched the first three episodes, can't wait to watch the rest. It's well made!
I was totally unaware of this story until a couple of years ago when I watched a mini-documentary about Elizabeth Holmes and it BLEW MY MIND. It's such an insane story, and it demonstrates how so many startup companies have this weird cult-of-personality thing pushing them forward... (see also WeWork)
The extent of Elizabeth’s involvement with designing and building the technology was hiring a handful of guys and asking them to build her a blood testing machine that only needed a drop of blood. She never had any idea if it was possible and had no interest in helping them design or build it. Before that she hired some people to build a wearable patch that could detect peoples diseases and inject them with medicine, which was about as plausible as a teleportation device. She was a naive kid with no medical background or education, and was given a billion dollars. The only thing she was good at was charming rich rich old men in their 80s and 90s
True. And frankly I have zero sympathy for them
Any nurse who ever worked in a blood testing facility could tell her this was impossible. Her idea was akin to saying "hey guys, build me a warp drive!". She never listened to anyone and thought that throwing enough money and hours at this problem will somehow solve it.
"Fake it till you make it" is pretty common, and even works at times when the problem is solvable with enough time and money. She tried to use this approach on an unsolvable problem.
" naive kid" the excuses have already started. Just say she was a con artist

Just started this weekend. It's amazing. I can't wait for the rest of the episodes.
omg when she did the VOICE. i love amanda seyfried
Years ago, adaptation of this story was originally rumoured to be a film starring Jennifer Lawrence as Holmes. Lawrence has a closer facial shape to Holmes and I can see her imitate that crazy wide-eyed, grinning expression Holmes has. However, Amanda Seyfried is a capable actor herself and having the story told over a few episodes instead might provide more coverage.
There’s also a film being developed from the book ‘bad blood’ I think they were waiting for the veredict to get a proper end and it’s being released on Apple TV+
The film starring Jennifer Lawrence is still happening. I think Jennifer will find it easier to get the voice down, but I doubt she can do the eyes. She has squinty unexpressive eyes imo
This role was supposed to be for Kate McKinnon but for some reason she dropped out, I'm glad it went to Amanda Seyfried. Eventhough she's an Oscar nominee last year, I feel like she's still underrated
McKinnon dropped out because of scheduling conflicts with her role as Carole Baskin, if you ask me she should have stuck with The Dropout because the Joe Vs Carole show looks pretty lame compared to this.
During her first interview I said she looked bat dropping crazy....
I'm glad her story aged well enough where she gets to have an amazing actress play her.
Her lip movement is amazing! It was mesmerizing
She killed the facial expressions and voice. Great job Amanda !

I love how she captures the deep psychotic voice. We studied this freak in my MBA several years ago that's how insane she is.

One of my favorite trailers is what I believe was the 50th Anniversary trailer for 2001: A Space Odyssey
This clearly isn't based on a true story, she actually seems likeable/sympathetic here.
Let's face it, to some extent they had to portray her as somewhat likeable/sympathetic. It's the only way she was able to con so many people out of so much money; she was effectively relying on her charm/charisma alone to perpetuate the fraud. In hindsight, we know she's none of those things, but I can see why they would choose to go this route in depicting her rise (and I assume, eventual meteoric fall).
They did the same with thr Karla Holmoka movie
Not to mention the real story is a failure and are under investigation for fraud
If she was a cold, heartless robot she wouldn't have gotten too far with the deception.
If you read the book or watched interviews of people who knew here, they found her very charming
I'm currently watching Dropout. Breezing through each episode. Amanda truly shines there in her role. Perfect portrayal of sociopath Holmes.
this gave me chills… Amanda, we love you.
I've been kinda obsessed with the Theranos saga for a while, I'm looking forward to seeing this
I bet if this show had dropped maybe a month after the Theranos documentary came out, it would have totally blown up. Now because so much time has passed and even with the trial being over, some are worried this show may come a little late to still feel fresh.
random, but hearing Amanda Seyfriend talk here just reminded me how good of a hypothetical live-action rapunzel she would've been
This looks good! I was wondering when Amanda Seyfried would drop her voice the way the actual woman did. To see the voice drop as the trailer evolves. That was good stuff! Props to the trailer editors!

this was filmed at my university, UCLA!! so proud 🥹
This isn't even close to what actually happened. Elizabeth Holmes never blinked, not once, not ever and as of today's date she is still not blinking!
Regarding the voice: I think the series will have her start using it eventually, like how the real Holmes faked it. I’m also curious about how the movie ”Bad Blood” portrays it, since Jennifer Lawrence has a genuinely deep voice like that
The wild thing though is that Elizabeth Holmes is *faking* that voice. Co-workers, professors, etc have all said she had an average female voice before Theranos and whenever she let her mask slip
she's using it at the end of the trailer so of course. Starts around 1:30 in case you didn't watch it in full.

She’s scary. The woman she’s playing has always creeped me out so the actress did an amazing job here.
After reading the book, I thought I'd give the series a watch. Still amazes me how her board of directors absolutely propped her up as some innovative deity, even after the tests were coming back flawed. Lives were endangered and all they cared about was that she branded herself as the next Steve Jobs.

I smell an Emmy. That voice change man....
My first choice for Holmes was Emma Stone, but Seyfried fits perfectly. Kudos, Hulu.
emma stone sucks, especially for this role
@@kkp4297 Thats a bit extreme, I think Emma Stone is extremely talented she just needs to choose her roles more carefully. But Amanda Seyfried I think has proven herself capable of tackling any role thrown her way and I have yet to see Lovelace but I hear she was pretty good in that so I expect she'll be the biggest highlight of the film. I just hope there's more here than just a excellent performance, alot of these biopics/ based on a real person kind of films usually have nothing more than a great lead performance and expect that'll be enough to get by. Will Smith drama's are a prime example of this.
I remember, about 6years ago when I told everyone I had a Hulu subscription. They had said it was a offbrand Netflix and cheap. Now look at Hulu💅💅
Amanda better be winning some awards for this one, what an amazing cast!!
“You don’t understand business!” “And you don’t understand science!” Really, always respect science please.
I used to work in the same complex as Theranos, and would often run into them in the campus commissary. Even from their inflections and body language, you could see the stress rising month after month. At the time it seemed like typical startup behavior, but in retrospect I have to wonder how many of them had started to realize the storm they had gotten caught up in.
Emmy on the way... Sorry JLaw we dont need your picture!
