- Indian actor Dev Anand speaks about his struggle days, he says, "I think it's come to my mind very vividly because probably the 19th of July 1943 I landed in Bombay by the then frontier mail at the Bombay Central from Lahore which is now Pakistan after my graduation from Lahore Government College and I was very young I think I was eighteen and a half years old and I came with the positive mind to be in the movies because after my graduation I applied for a commission in the Navy, those were the war days and I was rejected because my father had political leanings, my older brother had political leanings for the Congress so the British Government was not very keen to take me in and I wanted an outlet for some expression and any individual who would like to put it across for the world so I thought either journalism or acting in the films would be the alternative so I came with the very idea to be in the movies and it was in 43 and it was a big struggle and until the late 46 I could join the Prabhat and until then for two years in Bombay of the story a big struggle making both ends meet starvation levels going by train by busses, by trams dreaming away for the future and then for a short while I did a little stint in the people's theatre not very big roles becauseI think those days Khwaja Ahmed Abbas, Balraj Sahani and Chetan Anand were great, they were all in the theatre and I could persuade them to make me part of the setup".

The man was the encyclopedia of Hindi cinema. His life and accomplishments were amazing and his contribution to Indian and indeed all cinema is unmatched.
I am a fan of Dev Anand, he is my inspiration and trying to be evergreen.
What a great philosophy he delivered in his speech.

There were handsome heroes and there were stylish heroes and there were intelligent heroes. Only Dev sahab was all three. RIP!

Superb command over the language - Dev Sahab Hats-off !!
Everything about the interview was simply great - every small detail from the time he landed in Bombay (1943 - some details even prior to that) - immaculate memory power, his passion for cinema, impeccable stylish British accent English - what an attention to every single detail.
Dev Sahab - The Great !! No wonder you were the Bollywood's Ever Green Hero !!
The entire episode is shot in just ONE TAKE!! That's My Dev Sahab.... So spontaneous ❤
As they say, "those were the days", those were the real stars.
I personally feel, the real stardom ended with the "Black & White" era.
What's left is just people with greed for fame, name and money.
Adding nudity, in the name of art can't ever be justified.
Meaningless blabber, gibberish scribbling is no poetry.
Making loud, disturbing noises isn't composing or singing, I'd rather call it decomposing and screaming.
We are "facing the music" since we've stopped listening to the real music.
Dev Saab gave just a glimpse of his life. He's is one prime example of how much they (people then) revered the thought of expression.
Great Dave Anands Speaks Engish & His English proficiency is excellent...
really his english proficiency is unbeliveable
Dev Anand, the legendary actor and a camera genius
One of the best personalities of his era not only as an actor but also as an individual.

Unbeatable character who was honest to the core, unlike everyone else
Me too. Great actor. Confidence n creativity.
I m great admirer of Dev Saheb since my school days ie 1961 onwards. He was so inspiring to me that his hair style ( puff ), I
copied, tried n done in whoke schooling n college and my photo with that style / puff is ditto as of Dev saheb means no body can distinguish/ difficult to recognise whether it's Dev saheb or me ( Om Prakash now age 66 ) means Dev saheb was inspiration for me.
I styled the hair style of Dev Saheb in this interview too for many years.
He is too charming n 👍great.
I watched his all films means all films.
Unique personality.
Excellent salute sir. Proud to be an indian

I liked what you said about Dev, that he was like a family member. Same with our family. We used to say Dev is our family hero, akin to as some say, a family doctor.
Great actor my upcoming short film will
Mention him
HE WAS THE FIRST STYLISH HERO N STAR OF HINDI MOVIES, WITH HIS OWN INNOMOTIVE MANNARISM , Which in parts was adopted by later year stars such as shammi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Jackie shraff in bits.

A True legend Dev Anand.
What a great souls this legend was! Flops in the later part of his career also could not make him budge from his beliefs.
If smeone will tell me, those are not died hairs, I will believe it in my love for Dev Sahab😍😍😍😍.
Language, diction, composure, vocabulary, articulation, persona I mean phew, can any modern day bollywood actor match up to him.

An encyclopedia of knowledge and fluent orator both in English and Hindi. An inspiration to all people irrespective of age. A man should be imbibed. As a young man having done graduation in English Hons and full of confidence comes to Bombay and gradually achieved what he is today known or famous as evergreen.

Reporter is asking about success what should he reply then
My all time favorite actor.
When was this interview? Looks like he was still in his late 50's or early 60's? Sometime in the 80's?
Yes, this is a rare interview from the late 1980's!

1988 to be exact.
Dev Anand was an English graduate
Its well known that Dev Anand declined to work with many highly established / mega stars like, Raj Kapoor, Raaj Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Jeetendra, Feroz Khan, Vinod Khanna, Anil Kapoor, Salman & SRK, Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Sunny, Akshay Kumar with fear he would be upstaged, or popularity come under threat. That's why his films declined from the mid 70s and onwards. With the exception of Aamir Khan + Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand did work with Shammi Kapoor and Dharmendra but they were well past their prime. Anand pretty much worked with mid established stars like Rakesh Roshan, Mithun chakraborty, Shashi Kapoor, Jackie shroff, kabir Bedi, Raj Babbar, Aditya Pancholi or Javid Jaffrey
Well dev and his brothers made stars out of low hero's and heroines everyone wanted to work with dev and his brothers why do you think navketan was so popular until 70s
We need nowadays actors or directors like dev and his brothers that support low actors and turn them into stars even music directors and singers
@adilejaz9227 who?
@@Red-Red-Red-Red you don't know dev anand and his brothers helped actors to be stars and directors and singers through navketan
Great Dev Saab
dew sahib aap ki english ki kya baat he maza aa gya sun ke.pakistan ko proud hona chahiye ke aap wahan paida howe
Don last c
Sarah Ash Pakistan Dev sahib ke baad paida hua.
Very few stars can speak English so fluently.
He could not retire from the film industry at a proper time.
He produced many flop films at the end of his career as a director.
It was dev passion ,not to make money was his motive
He said he was happy making it.
Dev saab my favourite Hero
GREAT GREAT GREAT
Awesome person
Dev Anand is God
I always observed that he avoids giving credit to Vijay Anand. Without VA Dev Anand's career would have ended in 60s for sure.
great for good reason sir believe for good
brilliant
Точно
👌👌👌👌
What year was this interview done?
He avoided his early seven films with Suraiya and his love affair with her for obvious reasons.
He may not have spoken about it in this interview but there are numerous other interviews where he has openly accepted his love for Suraiya...
inspiration
honestly , stuff he made in his later years was nothing short ofSHHIIITTT!
Very good English...
❤👍
which year was this recorded?
its not easy to make a film without thinking of the results...you have to be very strong minded for that...kind of ziddi
Trimurti belongs to undivided Punjab. Golden period rules by Punjabi. Dilect thought destroy us.
I think Bollywood is dominated by punjabi culture...
Ye interview kab ka hai ?
How stylish
😉😉😉😉😉
