Taped this song/video from no disco on the old VHS as a young teenager. Remember listening to it over and over again as i loved it; this song just hit a chord with me, for some reason i remember the video was a fella in black trenchcoat traversing the streets of Dublin and hiding himself behind a black hat, Only could imagine what it meant; i'm sure it meant something. This version of the song sounds like a different recording from the one i remember from that video; still great, though. Thanks.
Yeh, I remember that, first place I heard the track. I'm fairly sure it was inspired by a short movie called "Film" made by Samuel Beckett that featured Buster Keaton. Link to that one below. But I'd love to see the Bawl video again if anyone has it.ua-cam.com/video/OeP2f3Ku0XE/v-deo.html
I made that video. it was definitely a different recording to this. The video was a total rip off of 'film' by Samuel Beckett - with Buster Keaton as the guy with the hat.
Got randomly curious to see if any live footage of Bawl existed and came across this -- glad to see you're keeping the Bawl flame alive, Gil! This one and the Beyond Safe Ways EP were definitely their high point, B-sides on those two were better than most of the album tracks.
brilliant song, thanks for uploading, I bought album at time, but I remember this from Dave Fanning playing alot. class stuff. This will give you alot of onfo on the history of this group and its spin-offs
Loved Bawl. Around during the Brit Pop period but not 'of' it. Always thought they had more of a connection with the good mid to late 80's indie bands such as Close Lobsters than the 90's Brit Pop thing. All those singles were great, as were the B- sides. And of course the album Year Zero is a smasher.
I vividly remember watching the Stone Roses' horrorshow at Reading 96 and wandering off in order to watch Bawl instead. A good decision.
