Forged Down Under | Ep 3 | Part 2 | Viking | Battle of the Blacksmiths Australia

- "Forged Down Under" is filmed in Queensland, Australia, at the Savage Custom Creative workshop. Savage Custom Creative specializes in knife making and blacksmithing classes. Our goal is to get as many people interested in and participating in our hobby.
"Forged Down Under" was created to showcase the Australian talent we have in the knife making and blacksmithing community and hopefully get more people interested in our hobby! We also aim to make the industry more friendly, as we're all here to help each other.
Each episode is split into two videos - Part 1 & Part 2. Each episode has a theme and is made up of 3 rounds. Contestants receive a challenge that they must start in round 1 and finish in round 2. Each round is judged based on a rubric and the final score from both round 1 & 2 combined, will decide who moves on to round 3, where they will get a new and more advanced challenge. The winner of round 3 will become a "Forged Down Under" champion.
"Forged Down Under" is unique, as we only give the contestants a theme to follow, and the creativity of how they interpret the theme is wholly up to them. This creates a much more fluid and entertaining approach. Sometimes, giving fewer guidelines is better, as contestants have to battle the urge to overcomplicate the build in a time-constrained environment.
Our judging is also different. We judge the contestants on a rubric for Round 1, based on three categories, with a 1-5 points scale per category, per judge. Then, in Round 2, we judge them on a more complex rubric of five categories. This gives the contestants who think about their approach a more strategic path. If you're smart, you can guarantee high points in a couple of categories or maybe aim for an average across all categories.
We hope you enjoy our show, "Forged Down Under"!

Welcome to the last episode of our first season! more to come next year!
love this series, the judges are amazing, the scoring system is really thought through, altough it sometimes feels a bit biased towards some contestants, the strength tests are reasonable. this show is basically what forged in fire should/could have been
Awesome first season. Looking forward to the second.
Great to see Shane! Looking forward to next year and where you go to from here, great meeting you the other weekend and we will be back for more!
Another excellent episode lads. I really liked the look of Richard’s axe. Simplistic look, a bigger axe head, and with just a touch of class from that Damascus inlay.
Love listening to this series while I work my own forge. Not a dedicated bladesmith, but it’s good to hear about different techniques and critiques. Looking forward to the next episode. Cheers from the US.
a great show, good to get hand skills visible, and can't wait for next season, keep them coming guys, one thing, in the "off season", how about some how to videos explaining the blacksmithing trade, how to make blades, forks, etc.
PS: you Don't have to always follow the USA model, and make weapons alone, showing us "LEGAL" items like cutlery, fire tools, etc. is also good, as it is something the beginner CAN make themselves.
Another excellent episode! Really enjoyed the axe work. I continue to appreciate the in-depth look at each stage of the build. Also I like the overall supportive atmosphere--comments from the judges during the build are clearly intended to help the contestants succeed. I learned much from watching.
Slamming the axes into metal hurt me lol
You and me both, it was nerve wrecking as hell 😂
Nice work from both Smiths
Let's GO!!!!!!
Whoop
At the end of the season, get all the contestants back so they can pick a theme and get the judges to compete against each other. Let's see how the experts handle the pressure
Cant wait for Season 2! I really love this show. Now I just to save up money to make a trip out there lol
تحياتي لحضرتك اشكرك على هذا الفيديو الرائع اتمنى لك التوفيق والنجاح انا صديقه جديده في انتظارك احلى لايك
After watching i hope we get to see more soon! It’s such a great show and I love how informative and interactive the judges are!
My only problem is sometimes it’s so hard to hear! I really think mic-ing the judges would really help us get to enjoy the commentary and information that they’re giving us!
Ah the destruction test!! 😢 very impressed with how well they both held up! Well done boys, love your work!
PS love the 'viking' tunics 😂
'Promosm'
Mr Beardo 😆
It's quite amazing that your contestants do so much better at forging the knives than the contestants do on the forged in fire series do.
