It was re-released in 1965 and reached #39. The single and album of the same title were originally released on the Madison label. Thank you for posting one of my favorite instrumental recordings, Catman, the Viscounts' definitive version of Earle Hagen's haunting melody, and for highlighting its interesting chart history (even higher on the re-release!). According to Hagen's Wikipedia page, "Harlem Nocturne" was used as the theme to television's Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer, and his best-known TV themes included those for The Dick Van Dyke Show, I Spy, That Girl and The Mod Squad. He is also remembered for co-writing and whistling "The Fishin' Hole," the melody of the main theme to The Andy Griffith Show; and co-writing the theme song to Tim Conway's Western comedy Rango.

This is one of those swaying, feeling the music in the kitchen kind of songs.

I don't know if Earle Hagan was still alive during the classic TV era, but he wrote or co-wrote a few tunes that became TV themes. This one was used by Mike Hammer in the '80s. This version has a twangy Duane Eddy style to it. Very cool!! 😎😎

I guess that we all have memories associated with this song, Javier. Mine is slow dancing at high school dances with only blue lights illuminating the gym.
