The mother, Maria, was actually injured much worse than the movie was able to show, including broken bones. She had to remain in the Singapore hospital for months while the family went on to Japan for school. She did lose part of her leg. Lucas united 73 family members. He’s now a doctor.

Nearly 230,000 people died as a result of this tsunami. I thought the film did a phenomenal job of capturing the terror and uncertainty of the situation, and the cast did some terrific acting to help immerse one as well.

Tom Holland and Naomi Watts killed it. Such a good movie.

You said the same thing I did almost word for word.... those kid actors were acting their butts off. Especially young Tom Holland. I know he gets crapped on sometimes for being Spiderman and people think he's not a serious actor. But this just shows he's really got the talent if he gets the right role. I would love to see him do more serious stuff like this now as an adult.

And PS I've watched a few reactions of yours now and it's always a good time! You have sort of mastered the careful balance it takes to talk just enough to entertain people - but not talk so much where you end up missing stuff in the movie. Not every reactor is able to do that. So kudos to you.

Like you said, with the right role he can kill it. I still love him as Spider-Man, but I know those roles can damage your career in a sense. He's got it in him tho.

The mother Maria actually worked on set with the crew to make the movie as accurate as possible and the old woman that was talking to Thomas about the stars was Charlie Chaplin's daughter. Tom Holland was amazing in The Devil all the Time. Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier) was also in that movie. Tom has been acting even before this movie. Over in Britain he was in a movie called Billy Elliott when he was 12. In this movie he is 14

Charlie chaplin's daughter? That's awesome. It's cool that the real mom helped make it realistic. I didn't know Tom Holland acted in anything other than Spider-Man. Everyone did so good in this movie. Thank you for watching!

@@sidneyjacques. yes, I love learning little facts like that in movies, lol!! If you check out the making of the movie you will see Maria there. Tom Holland is quite the actor. He has done more serious rolls and he does great.

Tom Holland wasn't in the movie Billy Elliot, he was on the West End stage production. There was a TV production about the making of Billy Elliot, but the original movie was not the musical.

@@sidneyjacques. Geraldine Chaplin is sort of a fetish actor for the director J.A. Bayona.
She has appeared in almost all of his films; "The Orphanage", "A Monster Calls"... even in "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom"
She has lived in Spain for many years and is fluent in Spanish.

Fantastic reaction to a spectacular movie. You have a new, consistent subscriber. I like your unique style. This movie won many awards and an Oscar nomination, as well (Naomi Watts for Best Actress) Tom Holland and Ewan McGregor both got nominated and won other awards, as did Watts. It should have had more. The Director also won a few awards for this movie and got nominated for a bunch (including Oscars) for the recent Society of the Snow- another incredible true story of survival. Nearly 230,000 people died from this tsunami- so the fact that all 5 survived truly was "Impossible." I think the movie did a great job of showing people in the background (a lot of the extras were actual survivors) who were not as lucky as they mourned lost loved ones. The most famous American story was about the beautiful supermodel Petra Nemcova. She survived by hanging on to a tree (similar to the young boys in the movie) but lost her fiance.

Thank you for subscribing! I really appreciate it! This movie was great, and I'm glad they got recognized for their work. I watched Society of the Snow, and I also thought it was a great movie as well. My favorite part about this movie was the sense of community and the willingness to help one another as best they could. That kind of love and compassion means so much during g those times. I'm glad I came across this one for sure. Thank you for watching! 🙏🏿

When I see what she goes through to get dragged all the way to the hospital. It makes me think of the story of Ashley Judd the actress who broke her leg, in the middle of the jungle, while visiting an ape reserve that she benefactors. It's a crazy story you should Google.

stop yourself from restriction of your emotions. Natural Laws put into place, long before our species existence, something called 'sentience'.. which is the ability to feel. EVERYTHING on Earth, contains sentience, and you cannot lie to yourself or pick and choose your emotional experience,on earth, because they're experienced physically. You struggled to remain 'happy', but choosing to remain aloof at other peoples suffering not only makes one twisted into a sociopath, but is a colossal factor in what's going wrong in our society, as well as global society. xo you have a tender heart: that's your super power. you should nurture it, not restrict it. xo

People thing that a tsunami is one giant wave and that's it. But that's not the case especially after a Mega Quake like that in Indonesia (9,1-9,3) and in Japan (9,0-9,1 ). It's wave after wave after wave crashing receding and again. That mega quake It had the longest fault rupture ever observed, between 1,200 km to 1,300 km and had the longest duration of faulting ever observed, at least ten minutes. It caused the planet to vibrate as much as 10 mm (0.4 in), and also remotely triggered earthquakes as far away as Alaska. It truly was a monster quake. 227.898 people died (that we know of because that number might be higher than that) so their survival as a family the odds were astronomical.
