'Two horses started hurtling down the road' - Witness speaks to Sky News

- Photographer Jordan Pettitt was in central London when he saw two horses "hurtling down" the road.
He described how Aldwych fell silent before the animals appeared.
It is thought several horses bolted after they were spooked by the noise of builders sending rubble down a rubbish chute.

A lot of questions need to be asked about this, it's a disgrace. People could have easily be seriously injures or worse.

@mariesimpson7613 - Judging by the colour, I thought it also looked like the same colour of red paint Just Stop Oil use when they are vandalising and defacing buildings. Considering all the cctv cameras everywhere yet no video footage of what and how the horses were spooked??? So until that is shown, I don't believe it was due to builders making a noise, and that it was 'something else'....

Horses are freight animals, and very typical of thoroughbreds that when one is spooked the one next to him will also naturally spook.

@@reetajudah9263 A black horse collided with the bus. In a different clip, the white horse is seen already bloodied before the bus incident. Two other black horses further ahead than this pair were briefly seen. It was one of those who hit the bus. The white horse and THIS black horse were just behind them.
It's their land too. They have Just as much right to run free. They did what only came natural. Good for those horses. ❤

Yes, it injured itself running into things! One horse smashed into a window at the front of a bus. The glass was very damaged, luckily it was safety glass otherwise the injuries would have been much worse.

Police need to send urgent messages to raise awareness among colleagues in short and quick mode in any major situation that arises. Consider this, write a message that is gramatically perfect, and then write in short and slang. See which is quicker and more effective. Just as the mother here shocked so would the officers who receive it be shocked by the brutality conveyed in the message. The message was not intended for the parents, but to be alarming.

The Militrary need to urgently review how they manage equines within the context of modern day challenges. The events earlier this week could have been avoided if a pre-ride reconesance excercise had taken place. This is a must in today's London. The Militrary need to work with the mounted police regarding safety in preparing horses for public duty and roadwork. Hi VIS(ability) PPE was missing from both horses and riders. This may have caught the eye of the construction workers prompting them to stop work whilst the troop past by. The police use PPE effectively for horse and rider. The army needs to realise that safety comes before traditional exercise dress. Following the British Horse Society Riding and Road Safety Guidelines for a start. An outcome from these events must be that Hi VIS PPE is mandatory for roadwork.
The grey horse now has an injured leg, which doesn't bode well.
There has been no good reason for the fuzz or army, guards etc to use horses throughout my long enough life. Only perhaps when searching for a missing person in fields or woods. Such cruelty is never criticised by animal welfare charities.
Royals have plenty enough land to give these wonderful creatures a good retirement, and not allow their use again. It isn't even as though the royals need guards on horseback to secure their safety these days. It's all for show. A show I have never wanted to see.

This is 2024, forcing horses to endure the chaos of London, being subjected to idiotic tourists, paraded around in the name of tradition or forced to stand still fully tacked with a metal bar shoved into their mouth and a human sitting on their back is cruel,unreasonable and absolutely unnecessary.
People say these horses are pampered, I say they are denied everything that is natural to them including the need to move around freely without tack and humans always wanting something from them, they deserve to be treated with respect in a more humane way.
Horses are commonly used by the Police in Crowd control at Sporting Events, Cultural Events &:Political & other demonstrations. I don't see that ending any time.
