    The wheels never came down, (hear the ding,ding,ding alarm, they were going to fast for them to deploy!) they bounced off the runway on both engines THREE times before going back around. The engines were damaged and compromised. I’m surprised he got as far as he did. Crew at fault IDIOTS THIS IS SUPER BASIC STUFF. So very sad for the passengers, Rest In Peace.

      Agreed! Even he was over confident and forgot to extend the wheels. And when it touched down while so fast and higher, he was still confident he could make it. But engines after hitting on ground poorly damaged. He thought he would extend the wheels and come back again, foolish attempt. He not even risked his own life but hundreds of other souls lost because of his this non heroic act.

      M. Emad they couldn’t open them if they tried. At no time did they have a low enough airspeed on the first approach for them to deploy. Only after the damage was done and the engines compromised on the go around did they come down loosing the airspeed they managed to still have compounding the stress on the already damaged engines....

    Few things we can observe:
    1) Ding Ding bell at 0:45 means gear aren't deployed or grossly overlooked
    2) Pilots are not communicating or giving real picture to ATC after they aborted and scrapped the engines
    3) ATC not inquiring the reason of abort from the pilots.
    4) Pilot saying give me 2000 and not telling 'why' nor ATC asking 'why'
    5) ' We are trying to maintain it' means still the pilots aren't telling ATC about possible engine failure.
    Conclusion: Engines failure due to its scrapping on the runway that led to plane crash. I don't know I may be wrong but that's my hunch by seeing this video.

    Crash is most likely due to pilot error and poor CRM. In the first recording and I expect so in the CVR(Cockpit Voice Recorder) you will hear what sounds like a electronic bell. This is the landing configuration warning indicating that the landing gear is not currently out. This is also displayed in the cockpit to ensure the pilots are made aware.
    Likely(but not 100% certain) list of events goes as follows:
    1) Approach is rushed and likely unstabilised on a steeper glide slope than 3, which means excess airspeed.
    2)Ignorance of the LDG Gear warnings and no checks/communication whilst a landing was attempted.
    3) The failure to indicate emergency beforehand suggests that the plane has no issues with the gear or engines before the first landing attempt.
    4)The landing is attempted despite passing minimums and not checking for any anomalies before final commit to landing.
    5)As the lack of landing gear is realised, the engine cowling scrapes against the runway just before taxiway Delta at the airport.
    6) The plane either bounces, hence scraping the engines again further on the runway, or the pilots engage too little thrust instead of go-around thrust via TOGA button on throttle handles.
    7) We do not yet know if the cockpit is aware of the engine damage as the plane flies back into the sky, though it's likely the FDR will tell us some sort of engine warning did go off, perhaps relating to the N1 or N2 readouts on the central display. These will perhaps tell us that during the next part of the flight the engine fan/core speed drops and probably stops all together, which is pretty much a translation for "ENGINE IS NOT PRODUCING (ENOUGH)(ANY) THRUST!"
    8)Whatever happened, the situation should have been communicated and the standard checklists should of been done.
    9)The damage caused to the engines causes some sort of fatal damage, perhaps in the form of a bent fan blade in either/both engines, or direct engine core damage if the scraping duration was long enough(which it appears to be for at least severe damage).
    10) The pilots do not tell ATC at first when they are unable to maintain altitude. We see this when they are flying their go-around. ATC says for them to fly at 3000ft, but they ask for 2000ft instead. ATC actually grant them this unaware; until a few seconds later they note that the PIA airliner is now at 1800 and descending.
    11)At this point it's likely that the engines are no longer producing much, if any thrust at all. The aircraft nonetheless has gathered some momentum from the engines before total dual failure on the first ascent on the go-around. The quick sharp turns made once/twice during the round trip which goes over "Star Gate Road" and then the second corner turn just before the "Jafar Society" near the bottom right of this map, cause the plane to loose a lot of it's horizontal inertia as the turn takes up this energy during the banking of the wings.
    12)With the aircraft having lost too much momentum after the previous dual engine failure, the actual speed of the plane is being reduced by drag(bearing in mind there are no engines to compensate for any of these forces), and the plane crashes as a result of either stall due to the low airspeed not giving the wings enough left, or the plane is already too close to the ground and gravity simply acting upon the plane.
    This is my speculation and NOT FINAL, but I think it's reasonably right at least in terms of engine damage/scraping on 25L
    R.I.P

    • @Rob2

      The problems started before that, not in this video but can be found in videos released by others.
      The ATC notices that the plane is outside the normal envelope of glideslope and speed, and asks "are you comfortable?".
      In fact ATC tries to say "he guys, please check your situation as we think you are too high/too fast, better make a go-around and re-do the approach".
      But the pilot replies that they are comfortable without even checking the situation in detail... that is where they already lost the flight and it has to be researched why they were so complacent and not aware of the danger they put themselves and the passengers in.
      Later (in this video) indeed they got warnings from the plane and ignored them as well.
      When they approacht the runway they are too high above the threshold (indicated by the fact they touched down way too far on the runway) but still (before touching down) they do not do a go-around but the attempt the landing.
      Only THEN, when they hear the screeching noises of the engines on the runway, they suddenly wake up and go around, which at that time was the wrong thing to do.
      But indeed, as you explained, they still did not follow procedures and just troed to fly around and land. They now lowered the gear, which also was the wrong thing to do as this increases drag. Now they don't make it back.
      It is a big pile of stacked mistakes, and the reason for that happening has to be found from the recordings.

      if you listen to the pilot at 0:45 you will hear a warning chime in the background. that is a warning when you move the gear lever to the down position but the airspeed is too high to safely lower the gear. even with the lever down the gear will not extend and the alarm chime sounds. it looks like they activated the gear down at a too high of speed, didn't understand the alarm and assumed it lowered. other pictures of the runway show were the engines scraped the pavement. another picture of the plane shows that they did get the gear down during the attempted go around.

    Two very important things to note in the audio. 00:15 1st is when audio stats pilot said we are comfortable now? That means something happened before approaching and authority is trying to hide.
    2nd thing is, 00:25 when pilot said we are established on 25L, meaning he was confident enough to say this and obviously he watched his altimeter reading. One assumption is Probably altimeter was showing false indication of height to the pilot because it was a routine job for him why would he come so wrong and still confident in his voice. But when ATC said sir you are 5 miles from runway that means you should be around 2000 feet high instead of 3000. At that point pilot voice changed.
    Every one is blaming the pilot by assuming so i am assuming this to say it would be a faulty instruments that lead to this tragedy, also misleading the pilot

Even as a young first officer you have the authority to call out for a go around/missed approach even with a senior captain on the left seat. You work as a team and any concern you have. Should be raised. You wont loose your job for performing a missed approach. For the sake of 15 or so minutes. Bring yourself around. Loose the height/speed. Fully established ILS means on the localiser and glide slope. Not being at 3000ft with 5NM to run.

    Horrific for everyone involved. Crew, passenger's and spectators. The decision to get airborn after engine scrape may have been a calculated gamble by the Captain: Reduce speed upon landing and hope to avoid runway overrun mishap OR go-around and hope damaged engines will not fail before second landing attempt. I think the Captain made the wrong choice...

      @@monizeshan I wonder if First Officer Usman Azam would have done things differently (never a good move to overrule the Captain at the best of times, even more so in an emergency). Air Korea Flight 8509 is a case in point where the Captain lost spatial orientation, over banked his aircraft, stalled and crashed. Admittedly some of the equipment on his side may have been malfunctioning but that was not the case on the Co-pilots side. A lot of pilots in Asia begin their careers in the military and are fast tracked to Captaincy when they switch to commercial. A relatively young F/O would tremble at the thought of contradicting the Captain (there could be career repercussions). It's a cultural thing based on fear and respect that junior crew do not speak out of turn, seniority overrides everything. In the west the interaction between pilots regardless of rank is less tense with much more dialogue resulting in checklists being adhered to more often than not.

ATC brought them directly towards the airport, planning to have them circle and lose altitude before coming in on final, and the pilots thought they were coming in direct, so when they hit the localizer they tried to drop fast, thinking they were fixing ATC's mistake having them at the wrong altitude. When ATC gave them a warning that they were too high, they thought he was just giving them information they already knew and didn't hear it as a warning, and when he gave them a turn, they ignored it because they were on final and already going the right direction. Maybe everyone was tired and going through the motions without paying enough attention to what the other was trying to do, or maybe having to speak English took up just a bit too much of everyone's attention. AirCraft came only once on the runway and touched the ground due to problem in landing gears and this conversation is before bally landing and alarming beeps 0:43 of AirCraft are indicating that there is some problem in the landing gears at 0:43 which are ignored by the Pilot and Air Traffic Controller also failed to assure that Landing gears are functioning properly before permitting to land, due to which engines touched the ground and ultimately failed during 2nd attempt to reach runway so crashed.

      He opened the landing gears but there was a problem with landing gears due which ding ding ding noise was coming at 0:43. ATC should ask about landing gear functionality. There should be no noise of Ding Ding Ding Ding at 0:43 if he would forget to open the landing gears.

      PIA 8303 came in at too high an altitude and speed, so the landing gear could not deploy. This was not a mechanical problem.

    Highly likely he scaped his both engines on the runway. As described by the survivor Muhammad Zubair he heard loud bangs on 1st try.
    My confusions:
    1. if pilots knew about the landing gear issue for the first time? why did he go around?
    2. why ATC didn't tell them about them hitting their engines?
    3. ATC seems to be suggesting belly landing? that means he knew about landing gear issue?
    Pls, correct me if I am wrong?

    • @ssg1885
      @ssg1885 4 роки тому

      The landing gear did not open because of speed and altitude when this happens the pilots are taught to do a round about but in this case the plane touched the ground which caused the major disaster he didn't want the plane to touch or land but the plane didn't manage to attain the right speed and altitude atc and pilot both have the control on knowing what is happening to the pilot told them about the gear issue and then later also about engines and in cases like these belly landing is the only option when engine and gear have failed

      The plane has to be stable on the ground and able to stop on the remaining runway length. If anything is wrong about that, landing is unsafe, thus the aircraft should then abort the landing; that is called "go-around". This can happen even after touching the ground, but that is risky.

    • @bostonshekhar
      @bostonshekhar 4 роки тому

      @@bobjames6284 That surely must have been a difficult landing. Plane bounced supposedly 3 times before taking of again. As of now there is no mention whether they were aware about the landing gear malfunction. Do you have any source where they inform ATC about the landing gear problem? If so, please do share the link.

      My conclusion is that the pilot panicked when he was running out of space in the runway, decided to pull up instead of engaging reverse thrust to put the aircraft on stop. This cost all the lives aboard that doomed plane. Besides, both engines already touched the runway and sustained damage, there was no way he can successfully perform a go around.

    • @DoubleMonoLR
      @DoubleMonoLR 4 роки тому +1

      @@Abdul-jd2em Losing the engines doesn't require having to belly land. They actually had the gear down on the 2nd attempt anyway. It's likely atc were aware that they had scraped the runway(with gear up) on the 1st attempt, so assumed there was a gear problem.

    • @mike786551
      @mike786551 4 роки тому +1

      Most likely looks like pilot error. They did Land the first time at a very high speed which prevented the landing gears from coming out, thus causing the alarm, which they totally failed to understand. The videos on the second landing clearly show the gears were out, as they should be because they were at a much slower speed by then. So like the other guy here said, the atc did see them doing the belly landing and rightfully assumed that there was a gear problem, which ofcourse there wasn't
