Great that they helped him get free but sad that he didn't get the hook out. I hope the fish doesn't get caught up on something else, and is able to eat with that hook in it's mouth..
The hook will dissolve fairly quickly, couple of weeks or so
@@RichardFoleher as much as I used to fish I should have known that but I didn't. I was always so careful not to lose a hook in the water.. do all home desolve like that ??
@@RichardFoleher It looks like stainless steel... Its never rusting.... Has to be bronze or similar
It's metal it Will not dissolve in a couple weeks. It will last till the poor fish dies.
@RichardFoleher how will a metal hook dissolve??? Even saltwater won't dissolve it that quick. Possible the hook will be forced out over time bug will take awhile. Plus don't think he'll be able to eat. Didn't look like he could fully close his mouth.
Not really saved, but somewhat helped.
He just got a lip piercing
A shame he couldn't get the hook out, but at least the pufferfish can swim around normally now.
I know 😢 Even tho it would've hurt him to take it out it would eventually heal and quit hurting him. It can never heal with it in him 😢
Fish don’t get enough credit. Thank you for saving that little guy ❤
I hope that the fish ends up okay in the end. And yes, fish don't get NEARLY enough credit. The biologist Jonathan Balcombe has written an incredible book about the intellectual and emotional complexity of fish called "What a Fish Knows". It's a bestseller!
Fish are friends, not food...
@@BeccaHetrick 👏👏👏👏👏
@@BeccaHetrick
Right. Don't eat fish to survive. Make friends, not food.
🤨🥴😅
Poor pufferfish...he must be so grateful you helped him.
hopefully he doesn’t end up eating the carrot
It's the same species that put him in that situation, though. I'd probably still be mad.

You may not know the biting power of pufferfish, but they have a strong biting force that can break human fingernails. They usually eat crabs and shellfish, but most of the time they end up breaking fishing hooks.
I'm pretty sure they have a strong enough bite power to break a finger outright. If the internet is to be believed, one actually bit some poor diver's pinky clean off.
@@bemusedbandersnatch2069 Well... the issue is the impact of garbage from anglers on marine life, and many divers know about pufferfish. They are generally friendly fish, so they often come close to you. That's why divers often wear gloves.
Amen on the gloves as well as the knife. If this guy paid for open water lessons, he should ask for a refund!
@@bemusedbandersnatch2069 They do have powerful biting power but they're generally very friendly fish. I don't think their species fear humans. It's normal to see them swim close to divers while other fish will swim away.
@@GSP-76 don't get me wrong, I love puffers. I'm just saying that putting your fingers near the beak of a freaked out puffer is to run the risk of earning the nickname "nubs".
So sad that humans are trashing everything for helpless animals . Thank u for helping
Agree!!
Thank you for saving him from other people’s trash and selfishness 🙏🏻🐠💕
They people who did this to this fish are the world's worst trash.
@@ccrider3435 Yep. People should leave fish alone, both in terms of not fishing in the first place and in terms of not filling the oceans with dangerous trash.
@@user-wv8ju3dw8s I use to love to go fishing then i started feeling sorry for them and quit at 20 years old. It's been over 30 years since i have went out hunting or fishing and i was very good at both. Now i feed the 🐿🐇🐦🦆🦢🐟🐠🐞

Lil pufferfish swimming around with a barb in its mouth.
It’ll rust and fall out over time
@@MasterMayhem78gosh i hope so.
@@MasterMayhem78 That's not true, not even in salt water, Infection first, fish feel pain and with pain unable to eat.
@@MeNTheCats well the diver did the best he can
@@MeNTheCats Precisely. This "it'll fall out" person is the same kind of person who goes around saying "they don't feel pain" and "they only have three second memories". People who think of animals as being merely objects put here for their amusement say any old nonsense to justify their bad habits.
Thanks for helping the poor little fellow…
And he literally RISKED HIS OWN LIFE in order to save a poor weedow fishie. 😖🤨😅
So that's what happened to Mr. Puff.

@@user-wv8ju3dw8s Me too, friend. ^^
The bad thing is them leaving the fishing line attached to him he's going to get caught up on something or get wrapped around his body. I know he tried his best to help the fish and that's a great thing to do. But honestly this is one of the reasons why you need to have a diving knife with you whatever you go even if you're just going snorkeling. I do hope the little puffer fish is still alive and it's swimming around happy and healthy. But is that fishing line starts wrap around him it's going to get worse for him in the long run. I would say he probably should have left the puffer fish there or had his girlfriend go back and get a knife so they can cut fishing line. That or try to find a piece of trash or debris in the ocean to help cut it. Aluminum can a glass bottle something
1 People are not going to always bring something with them 24/7, that's just how things goes.
You can't expect someone to always have something on them.
2 They went diving but we don't know how close their house is to the diving spot, what if it's a 5 hours drive back and forth making it 10 collective hours from going to take the knife and take it back.
The best thing they could have done was to ask for someone to let them borrow a knife, but you can see how that wouldn't exactly go well/creep people out if two random strangers ask for a knife, and even if they gave them time to explain it was to help the fish there was no guarantee they would have let them borrow it anyway.
The fish could have tried to swim away and by the time they were back he was gone.
In some cases you can't do more than the bare minimum, you should be the one accepting that reality that not everything can be fixed just by doing the obvious choice.
@@von8298do you go snorkeling with wire cutters?
They did the best they could with the resources they had… relax
@@saralynn518 You can buy diving knives that strap on near your ankle. All divers and snorkellers should wear them, for all kinds of reasons, including your own safety. It's easy for human beings to get caught in fishing gear, in addition to all the animals who end up in trouble.
@@user-wv8ju3dw8s will a diving knife clip through a metal hook? This is why I mentioned wire cutters.
It makes me so mad that people just throw their trash in the ocean and on the beaches. I am grateful for people like these two who have a kind giving heart and try to make the world a better place ❤ Much love and hugs to you both!
There should be serial numbers attached to buoys, lures, and nets so that they come back to a person.
That doesn’t make sense.
@red3here yes it does.
@@kandykane2160nope.
Why stop there, put serial numbers on everything and have it all registered to the government right?
@@kpz1234 because not everything is getting tangled in whales and sea turtles. If fishing nets could be traced back to someone, I'll bet that someone wouldn't be so quick to throw them overboard.
But yes, great thinking. Let's put serial numbers on "everything."
Poor beautiful gorgeous pufferfish.
Thanks for caring

It's so heartwarming to see animals showing/saying thanks for helping them when they're in trouble or needing help. 🥰😍♥
A big thank you to these people that says that puffer fish. It's sad that the ocean is filled with garbage like that.
At least there's some people that care.😊❤
How does he eat with a hook in his mouth?
With difficulty and with pain. One of the many reasons why fishing is wrong.
@@user-wv8ju3dw8s definitely spearfishing is more ethical, the kills are quicker and much more guaranteed that just chucking some sharp metal bits into the water and hoping for the best. No fish getting stuck with hooks stuck in them, no fishing lines getting stuck on seals etc.
@@patrickhector Still cruel and unnecessary. Nobody needs to eat fish.
@user-wv8ju3dw8s You're an idiot, don't reproduce.
@@patrickhector Let's not kid ourselves. If you wouldn't do it to your own child, it's hardly "ethical."
I just think its EXTREMELY sweet he saved this poor fish, I wish there were more ppl like him in the world! See how destructive garbage is for our Oceans? Why cant humans RESPECT our LAND and Oceans?
The hook was still in its mouth though. 🤔
Fishing tackle is a massive problem all around the world.
It's in the corner though, it can still eat.
They crush shellfish with powerful jaws and feed on the soft insides. His mouth was still functional.
@@volvo09 you try eating with a hook in your mouth
@@robertl7503 Precisely. 👍
Poor little dude
good job. you did what you could.
Thanks Shane!! You Really Went ALL OUT For This Pufferfish!! Great Deeds Go Out All Around!!
Knife won't do anything. STAINLESS surgical scissors. Yes, underwater on every dive. No, I'm not a doctor, but I do teach scuba. Advanced divers should consider stainless surgical scissors in their kit. It will help you get out of fishing line, yourself.
No, pufferfish don't "eject" spikes. They are some of the friendliest fish, and they are very poisonous if eaten, somewhat venmous, but not "deadly" if poked with their outer ...
Wait, I just realized this site is called "Dodo". Never mind, fellow Dodos, let's just be happy in our ignorance, and look at pretty fish.
Thanks for your valuable information sir.

How did you help leaving that thing it’s in mouth?
The fish can at least surface now as well as get food and swim from predators. It was better than the alternative.
Ty!
Thanks for saving the little guy. Blessings to you both🙏
However there were 2 of you and 1 of you could of gone to get the knife. You need to carry your equipment down with you knowing you going down there
Yes you did help the fish for the moment.
He tired his best.
The problem is time. We don't know how long it would have taken to find a knife in the vicinity or to get home and grab it. And the sea wasn't calm at all, so one person needs a backup in these conditions, just in case of a big wave.

You both make make yourselves proud along with so manymore and I. "My kind of Heroes! ☺️❤️❤️❤️
Awesome.
It breaks my heart to see animals hurt because of negligent or careless people. I live in the desert...a desert that feeds free ranging cattle that supply our food chain. It's amazing how many party balloons leave the city, go up just out of sight, leak some helium, and fall to the desert. I find them often. But sometimes a beautiful little calf will find one and eat it. They are attracted to the pretty colors. Wildlife too. Releasing balloons at a party, or other event kills livestock and wildlife. It's careless, it's cruel.
Thank you
