Was it realy 3 years wow doesn't seem that long ago when you posted those videos unless you waited a while after you did the ride just wow how time flies
Is it a deuce?? Ok I’ll watch the video…… actually fuk it can you give me your opinion on the deuce? That’s what I have. And I’m just a reoccurring tourist in the bike world over my 45years.
Josh I hope you don’t listen to any of these negatives comments. You keep doing you man, there are so many of us that love your channel. Thanks for being you man
Another great video Josh. Your whole concept of taking trips on older bikes, with their older bike issues is what got me hooked on your chanel to begin with. I watched your goldwing trips over and over again while working on my KZ.
OMG !!! I thought that was a Christmas ball hanging from your bars....Then I saw that it was your left turn signal...Laughing my butt off...Love Ya brother...-John
Nobody is perfect. During this episode I joined a power cable that I had to separate again, coz it's to go through a hole before I join it. Got carried away. Thanks Shadetree, a lot of us can't get out coz of Snow atm, so nice to see you enjoying the purring of the Shovelhead. I found "use not abuse" works with twins, whereas inline 4's were built to take abuse! 😂😂
Beautiful words Mr. Surgeon. I love old oil/air cooled machines. You can make anything work, and parts are there to do it the right way too. I just picked up an '83 Honda in bad, but "running" condition for $300. They just don't die if you feed them.
You worked to get the ole shovelhead running and take road trip. I am just happy I got my snowblower running so I can take it to the end of our driveway. Love the video!
This reminds me of my first harley, a 77 iron head sportster. Riding to work one morning something flew by nearly missing my arm, thought the car in front of me threw a beer can out the window. Got all pissed and rode up to scold the offender. They were looking like WTF you hollering about. Got to work and realized the headlight had vibrated loose and was actually what whizzed by. A guy I worked with who was very large, wanted to ride my bike cause he had an old honda. He got on to kick it over and one of the riser caps came loose and the handle bar was on with one riser. Turns out the previous owner had stripped the threads. Just 2 of the stories of many while riding that old beast of a machine. Loved every minute of it.
The owner of the garage I worked at when I was 17 had a 78 FXRS and his riding buddy had a shovelhead that was a mixture of various parts. I was asked to go with them for the annual Sturgis rally because I had a VW bus to carry all the parts, tools and camping gear needed for the trip from Denver. We stopped often as both bikes tried to shake themselves apart along the way. The first night at the Buffalo Chip campground was a life changing event for me.

Excellent soliloquy! I rode a rigid 74 Shovel to the Keys in 1983, the place has changed considerably. My son is a fishing guide there. I do it now on baggers!
My pops crewed on the Navy troop carrier that dropped Hemingway off on Omaha beach the day after D-day. Hemingway wrote an account of it in for Colliers Magazine. It was also mentioned in Ambrose's novel.
That’s why I own a brand new sport glide with cruise control and handbags with 0 issues and having for 2 years now knock on wood and thank GOD! I ride my bike to work everyday (truck broken over a year) 20k miles in one year m8 107 is a masterpiece
Glad you finished the ride. I think your bike has earned a top end rebuilt - when you have to add oil to get a decent compression test its a good sign your rings are shot. I would repeat it now that you ran the bike for a bit but the hard starting sure is a symptom.
Just finished rewatching because I got caught up in the premiere chat earlier. I love these types of videos. It’s great to see the continued trials and tribulations of that shovelhead. Keep on keeping on, WIZARD
I was waiting for another of yours bike adventure, and for sure sh.t, this is one.👏👏👏 When you are waiting time seams slow. But I remember the last one like yesterday. Yeah, 3 years, I really didn't notice thatit. Must have being a bit difficult for you (super busy and all). Anyways. Hope you would have more time for you this year. Is good for the soul and heart bike road trip adventures. Plus your videos full with words of wisdom and awesome places that make us dream Brother... Thank very much.x,🙏🙏 Much respect.❤️✌️
I started on a Shovelhead, I still have one, there was a time like you mentioned that this is what you had and rode it everywhere and not a matter of if but when you were on the side of the road, I didn't see the romance in it then and I sure as Hell don't see it now, I unfortunately didn't possess the undying faith of someone helping but somehow with pure dumb luck and the kindness of strangers I somehow pulled though, owning and riding a new bike now is like being on the winning team and a better chance with the prom queen without the taking the necessary precaution, being stranded in the middle of no where or riding a stage 2 117 Lowrider as fast as it will go, choose your pucker factor on the road to happiness
So, I normally don't participate in raffles/drawings as such but I did this one. First, your cause is just and honorable and it makes me happy to be part of it. Second, yes I would love to win that old shovelhead. Not for myself, but for my Son. He has been working so hard trying to get his motorcycle business going. It's progressing very slowly but he is sticking to his vision. I know he would love a bike like that. We only live a couple of hours from the spot where your FXR died in Georgia. We saw a video where someone put a small plaque up on a post at the spot so we took a ride one day to check it out on our way to Helen GA. . The plaque was no longer there tho, bummer. But the point is, I know he would ride the wheels off of that bike and cherish every second of it. He has personally put over 100,000 miles on his v star 1100. So who knows, maybe one of the five tickets I bought will be lucky! Either way, its a very good thing you are doing Sir, very good.
Man you hit a huge spot in my personal life with your writing and I thank you. Now put hand to keyboard and publish something. I'm not much of a reader but not many write in your style which does peak my interest. Until then I'll keep dreaming of getting a bike and enjoying your channel. FYI I have a little place in Acuna Mexico if you were ever interested.
Great conclusion to the ride Josh, albeit there may be a small amount of the PNW to cover as stated below. But your elucidation of the dichotomy of motorcycling was outstanding. I find that when I am riding alone away from civilisation as such, I am forced into being in the moment. One of the few times that we are truly in the present and only the present. No past thoughts or future worries intrude as you experience being in the now (concerns about a ratty shovelhead aside). Each corner is its own experience, the one before lost to time. Motorcycling is the only activity I do that forces this state to the fullest extent and it is nirvana to the soul.
I just bought a 1970 something suzuki that I want to get going. Trying to get some of my friends to look for old cheap beaters too. I would like for a couple of us to go camping on them this summer.
Speaking from my own experience, if you use the liquid JB, and freshly sand down to bare metal, and degrease just before applying the jb, holds fine on a gas tank. Let it sit overnight before refilling.
As many times as I've done that ride to and through the keys, it's always fantastic and somehow new. And the dark chocolate dipped frozen key lime pie on a stick at Kermits is 100% worth the trip alone!
Very poetic post✌. I was contemplating jumping on a "Paraffin Pigeon", flying over to Miami from freezing Scotland , hiring a bike through Rider Share and driving down the Keys any tips or thoughts? Ms Chloe would be more than welcome on the back! I forgot to mention I am a certified Chief Marine Engineer in what you call the merchant marine, if you need any boat advice.🤟
Oh man! I was just down in the Keys on vacation or the holidays! Would have been awesome to run into Shadetree! But alas.. I'm back in the land of ice and snow now.
I've been traveling around the country for the last 45 years on one Shovelhead or another. I do not recommend it to anyone that is in a hurry to get there 😅
I rode my '73 FX living on the Mississippi River to Washington State thru Seattle down to Tacoma without a hiccup. The only thing that happened on the trip was that a go-fast bike passed me going for all he was worth, and blew his muffler off and it hit the road and bounced up and I was able to avoid it. My brother who was driving my VW bug behind me didn't see it until it hit the hood of the VW and bounced over the roof of the car!! All it did was knock t

@ttjbiggunner2025 I was thinking the same exact thing. Time flies.
Is it a deuce?? Ok I’ll watch the video…… actually fuk it can you give me your opinion on the deuce? That’s what I have. And I’m just a reoccurring tourist in the bike world over my 45years.
Quick question, are the people that signed up for monthly donations entered into bike drawings?
Josh I hope you don’t listen to any of these negatives comments. You keep doing you man, there are so many of us that love your channel. Thanks for being you man
Preach it. Love this stuff.
Went through all this in the 70s, riding what we had to ride back then. Good to see someone reliving this misery voluntarily!
Another great video Josh. Your whole concept of taking trips on older bikes, with their older bike issues is what got me hooked on your chanel to begin with. I watched your goldwing trips over and over again while working on my KZ.
That means a lot to me man, this comment made my day!
OMG !!! I thought that was a Christmas ball hanging from your bars....Then I saw that it was your left turn signal...Laughing my butt off...Love Ya brother...-John
The pontification of the swamp wizard strikes again. An excellent exploration of the dichotomy ever present amongst the isolationist extrovert.
That damn turn signal 😅
Hanging on like a snot bogger.
It's identifying as a Gremlin bell...!
I know, I couldn't stop focusing on it.
I thought it was a Christmas ball and then I realized what it was...
I can't believe the original cross country shovel video was 3 years ago. Wow. Glad you made it. I love this stuff.
Nobody is perfect. During this episode I joined a power cable that I had to separate again, coz it's to go through a hole before I join it. Got carried away. I crossed the country several times on a '79 FLH when I was young....Now I have a 2008 FLH and have gotten spoiled.
You worked to get the ole shovelhead running and take road trip. I am just happy I got my snowblower running so I can take it to the end of our driveway. Love the video!
Got my ticket, thanks for the ‘sponsorship’ of a good cause. What you are riding there my friend is a real adventure bike.
This reminds me of my first harley, a 77 iron head sportster. Riding to work one morning something flew by nearly missing my arm, thought the car in front of me threw a beer can out the window. What can be better than hotdogs, beer, road trip with your best friend and motorcycles. This episode was undoubtedly smiles for miles!
I had a damn good time :)
This one was epic Josh. Thanks for all the great vids bud. Even for the not so great ones.
Good work bud.

You definitely paid your dues!!
Nice! Awesome David was coming along again for this ride! 😄
3:28 that's exactly how mine started. 1948 bottom, 1966 top. Add the two together and that's how many kicks it took to start it 🤣
Also Chey I'm sorry for what happened 😢 stay strong girl 🤗
Every adventure starts with.. kicking and screaming 🥳💪🏼
Just bought mine brother!! Fingers crossed!! Shovelhead!! 83!!
Man keep floating the boat doing a great job brother
Dude I love the way you come up with the wildest conversation ever. Your the shit
Just finished watching FXDLS Brooklyn's video Going All The Way and Back IT WAS AMAZING
My pops crewed on the Navy troop carrier that dropped Hemingway off on Omaha beach the day after D-day. Hemingway wrote an account of it in for Colliers Magazine. It was also mentioned in Ambrose's novel.
What a great way to end the trip! Great stuff as always brother.
I’m imgagining all the oncoming drivers waving at you as you talk with your left hand. 😊
That’s why I own a brand new sport glide with cruise control and handbags with 0 issues and having for 2 years now knock on wood and thank GOD! I ride my bike to work everyday (truck broken over a year) 20k miles in one year m8 107 is a masterpiece

Needed to rewatch. Luvin shovelhead misadventures lmfao!
I don't know who has worse judgement. You for continuing to do these Shovelhead trips or David for going with you!
LMAO he’s a glutton for punishment apparently 😂
I can’t believe that was 3 years ago. Feels like less than a year.
I was thinking the same thing.
Same! I feel like that about everything though even shit that happened a decade ago
That’s what I was thinking
Cant wait to take that first ride on my new to me shovelhead fxr
They make a gas tank seal that resist gasoline, I used some in Montana on my 82 Honda Sabre. Right product for the application, lol be safe, have fun.

An eloquent tale of chaos under control Sir, you have my utmost respect and undying allegiance. Shadetree army forever! 🫡👊☠️

That Tree Surgeon let it sit for 3 years behind a shed tells you everything. AMF magic! 😅

The most fun ya can have with yer clothes on, that’s for sure :)
I just bought a 1970 something suzuki that I want to get going. Trying to get some of my friends to look for old cheap beaters too.
I would like for a couple of us to go camping on them this summer.
Hell yeah! Sisyphus has completed its coast to coast journey! Congrats Josh. Now..... can it make a four point trip? 😂😂
Only one way to find out! 😂
Late for the premiere…not too late to tell you a happy new year. Love ya
Awesome. Serious adventure mode. Shadetree powers activate
I love ya man, but I wouldn't ride that thing two blocks. The biggest thing to be proud of, is that David went with you.
My first video i watched was you riding that thing across the country. Epic.
Speaking from my own experience, if you use the liquid JB, and freshly sand down to bare metal, and degrease just before applying the jb, holds fine on a gas tank. Let it sit overnight before refilling.
I really hope the tank doesn’t almost fall off again😂, love these road trip videos
As many times as I've done that ride to and through the keys, it's always fantastic and somehow new. And the dark chocolate dipped frozen key lime pie on a stick at Kermits is 100% worth the trip alone!
I know he used too ..,
The man has a higher calling "now a days".
He's on a journey.
We all are.
All are different.
oh man that's my route right there.. I take Krome down to the stretch before hitting the keys and getting some good drinks😂😂😂
My shovelheads, when they’re warm just looking at the kickstarter is enough to start ‘m
Wait a damn minute! Portland is not the farthest point of the PNW. This ride is still incomplete!
You’ve got a point… 🤔
Alaska bound next?
Cool picture! Check out this carbon fiber license plate flipper which is also a fender eliminator in one 🤯
Nice elevator muzak for the wiring short
👍🎶😁
Very poetic post✌.
I was contemplating jumping on a "Paraffin Pigeon", flying over to Miami from freezing Scotland , hiring a bike through Rider Share and driving down the Keys any tips or thoughts?
Ms Chloe would be more than welcome on the back!
I forgot to mention I am a certified Chief Marine Engineer in what you call the merchant marine, if you need any boat advice.🤟
Funny thing is I plan on going to Key West in February.
That is shockingly low ticket sales for America 🇺🇸, for Florida even! 😮 Course , everyone skint after Christmas.
I love this existential type of video
Oh man! I was just down in the Keys on vacation or the holidays! Would have been awesome to run into Shadetree! But alas.. I'm back in the land of ice and snow now.
Glad ya got out of the ice for a bit!
It would be hilarious to see the "Kustome" sticker I gave you on the tank of that bike.
Glad you love these old shovels, someone has to.
Josh, you are a brave man riding that Harley Davison on an extended trip.😊
Hey, back in the day everyone did it!
Robert Pirsig might be a better author than Hemingway for Josh, especially if more extended trips are planned on that particular bike.
@@shadetreesurgeon I'm envious of this undertaking! I'm stuck in Ontario where it's -15c and snowing. Dreaming about riding again. Be safe brother
HOWdy S-T-S, ...
"SHOVELING" along
West to East across the PENINSULA !
to the "GLANS" of FLORIDA
COOP
the WiSeNhEiMeR from Richmond, INDIANA
...
At least that blinker is faceing forword.
Ohno now its backwards.
I know the 2.5 gallons sucks but I kinda fuck with being able to see the top of the motor as you’re riding
Your awesome bro !!! Keep doing what you doing ride hard ❤️✌️✌️
Heres how you fix a leaking tank. Fill leak with soap. Cover with fiberglass.
The next one should be across the country on a grom with no highways
The duality of the duality only foreshadows the true duality of the duality. "Darth Vadar"
After all that kicking id leave it idle the whole trip. 😅
Here's another certainty, there's gonna be pain along the way too! 😂😂
I've been traveling around the country for the last 45 years on one Shovelhead or another.
I do not recommend it to anyone that is in a hurry to get there 😅
Dave is a glutton for punishment as I remember the last long journey 😂..you couldn't have a cooler guy for backup.
That old chestnut🎉
Awesome message! Keep it up homie
I rode my '73 FX living on the Mississippi River to Washington State thru Seattle down to Tacoma without a hiccup. It' knocked the emblem off the hood!!
Damn dude, that’s awesome!
Pontificating on the razors edge. 🤙
Timing is everything, but as Shadetree is fond of saying, what's the worst that can happen? Lol.
Think about adding some flex tape to the tool roll 😂
shovels need to be modernized, they were built when the speed limit was 55, with a good 60% balance of the flywheels and a tooth or two on the counter sprocket they'll run 80 mph all day. surprised you haven't lost the front head gasket with that massive exhaust leak.
Cool AL ... JUST the dudes ride. Bought my 1st ticket for a great cause... hello to all the single cuties.
Josh, I’m betting you have (but in case you haven’t), you really need to read “Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance”.
Times flies. It has seriously been three years?
Hell yeah brotha
Got home from work just in time
Had a cold one 🍺
Now having dinner 🍽️😋
Cya in a bit ✌🏻
🥇
A bar of soap is required! Rub it over the leak. It stops. For how long? It works
Way to go Josh. Great video .
Josh…. Every time I see you break out duct tape or job weld I cringe…. I had a 75 shovel and miss it dearly… since medical retirement I cannot afford to get another bike and miss riding dearly. Thank you for the content. If you ever want to give up that shovel, let me know. I’ll sell my nuts to have it! Lol
I wish I had the time. Manifesting is a lot more difficult.
Damn dude, I totally get all of this. I don't have the skillset to support a bike/trip like this, YET! But what you said is the reason I found an old Dyna to find out for myself! I'll work my way up! Or down..?? I have a really nice Street Glide, nothing special, but nice. But I want more man!!! Titties, butts, in my own head.. I know I'm best to others in small doses, the rest of the time I wanna be on my bike!!! Awesome video!
Thy journey is complete
Every journey begins eventually who knows how many kicks it’ll take. Just be careful it’ll kick you back
Shade tree you gonna need some 6 toed cats!
Oh, man! Are these happening earlier each time? I missed another premiere.
The granddaddy of motorcycle travel writing is Ted Simon. Check out his book "Jupiter's Travels."
Thanks for the tip my friend!
They did it on shovelheads but without cell phones or credit cards.
