Nah, he didn't want to admit he was a coward. Song is called Grenadye Alaso (Soldiers Attack). It's in creole and translates to "Soldiers attack. Those who die, so what? Sorry mama. Sorry papa. If we die, so what?" repeated over and over.
Y'know, it's interesting. During Isaac's journey, we learned that Night Creatures will do almost anything to feel human again. They will often go back to the things that made them feel most alive in life and treasure it dearly. Isaac took that to heart and you got the feeling the Night Creatures serving under him would do almost anything for him, because he treated them not just as tools but as people who once had their own lives and hopes and dreams. Thus it's ironic. The abbot and the rest specifically took and turned revolutionaries into Night Creatures because then they'd be "serving a greater purpose." You get the feeling they relished turning what they saw as enemies into an obedient slave army. And yet it turns out that when you take people who as humans felt most alive when fighting against tyranny, and turn them into Night Creatures, who as we've established treasure their human memories and experiences more than anything else, you've effectively seeded your own Night Creature army with people who are 100% inclined to rebel against you because that is what reminds them what it's like to be human.

It really doesnt seem like the other night creatures were "in" the plan. The way even they looked at Edouard seems like they were still a bunch of cowards and Edouard gave them a last chance to free themselves or live as slaves forever.
I feel like the ones on Ten Arms' side were mostly Machecoul citizens, those of more Royalist persuasions. They were probabky all drained by the vampires at the chatteau and given to the Abbot a night or two after. A few look like Revolutionaries, but they were probably some of the few that Edouard's singing couldn't save. The ones on Edouard's side are obviously all Revolutionaries, freshly killed when they were put in the Abbot's forge. With how fresh the bodies of the captain and her men were, that only helped make it easier for their memories to return. The captain herself keeping her ability to speak and Edouard's singing likely made it even easier.
Как по мне сам факт того, что часть ночных созданий сохранила свои изначальные души, есть недоработка методики аббата по созданию существ ночи, такой себе самоучка средней руки. Being freshly killed helped make it easier to remember themselves too. That said, Edouard's singing likely helped a lot. It's like how Altzheimer's patients will listen to classic music to help make remembering things easier.
I think the Abbott is just a phony forgemaster. He wasn’t born with the magics like isaac or hector… he had to make a deal, and still can’t even do it himself. He needs his huge machine to even do it at all. I think this bastardized forgemastery is simply weaker.
The infernal machine in Nocturne create night creatures faster, effortless and almost automatically than both Isaac and Hector could do. But both of them add most of the time a different soul from the corpse who have been twisted for centuries, even millenias by different plan of Hell. In that case not only you are magically bind to the will of your forge master but you are more than incline to do his binding if that mean not going back in hell too soon in order to kill, destroy and despoil. The conversation between Isaac and Flyeyes is very interesting about that. However the machine might be faster and efficient in quantity it also have a big flaw in quality ; it use the same soul of the recently deceased corpse and not all of them were sinners in the first place. Edouard is a perfect example ; at first his soul was lost but then he saw a familiar face in Annette helping him to regain his memories and overtime remembering who he was. And thanks to his actions he help some of the others to do so, weakening the bond with the Abbot even there is still one in the end since they were in pain when the Abbot died (good riddance IMO knowing he wasn't a saint with them and the relation was artificial). The same can be seen with the first days of Captain Frozen Shade she was in panic of what she has become (and ending up in the arms of your killer surely didn't help). She was still confused during the first conversation with Edouard saying she has become "a new and glorious thing" without conviction. Turn out talking philosophy, singing and screaming orders help a lot to keep your speaking in your second life !
The irony that the priest was right. They did in the end fight for good, the priest just couldn’t accept that he was not on the side of good
