Dear DJ Damien Jay, Your mum, Jeannette Jacobs, lead singer of The Cake is remembered as an iconic singer of her generation. Like royalty, we are honored to know she is your mum. Fortunately, she will always be with us through her recordings. We are very sad that she left you at age 2 when she as 30. We hope you will find within you her voice to create a tune for the world to listen again though you. Here goes to you a big hug from your mum's fans, Frank 305-796-9510.
Damien I knew your Mum when I was living in the Chelsea Hotel in 1968 ....she was beautiful with luscious red hair and a gentle nature and gorgeous she was going out with Jimi Hendirx at that time he actually seemed to love red heads..She and Barbara used to come over to the hotel and we gossiped! I hope you see this xx
and that's a moroccan shirt Jeanette is wearing - Jimi wore them (see Are you Experienced cover) and they were very popular on sunset blvd and within the stoner acid circles of that period... i wonder if she was an inspiration for Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star
@movingon4ever I AM enjoying this and I definitely agree with you. They were in their late teens and what I love about them is they didn't follow the girl groups from the past, they each wore their own style of clothing, wroter their own songs and sure were hip and cutting edge.
singer in the middle is Jeanette Jacobs - she suffered from epilepsy and passed away at 30 from the disease. She wasn't just being a 'cool cucumber', she had to limit her movements to avoid triggering the epilepsy I think...something like that... cute chick!
In both videos, the dance steps look so graceful, professional, well practiced, a pleasure to watch. Unlike the 'drill dance' on those 50's movie musicals, so boring! The '65 Go-Go dancers in the YT videos, "Lies"-Knickerbockers, "Keep on Dancin'"-Gentrys, and "It Ain't me Babe"(or "Let me Be")-Turtles were Booty/Long Hair shaking dance girls. The Cake appear far more entertaining, though derailed by personal issues. Our Loss. Enjoy these precious clips.
Barbara and I were close friends in the sixties and had many adventures in NYC within the rock community. She once brought Jimi Hendrix to my hotel room at 5am when I was trying to sleep. I last saw her about 2007 when I picked her up in Manhattan and brought her upstate to where i now live near Woodstock. Somehow I lost her info and would love to catch up if you have a way to get a message to her link her here, tell her Vivian is still alive and kicking.

@skidog1478 Passed away and still young. They really didn't try to get back together, hunh? I mean, the 80s were kind of following what the 70s went through after the 60s ended which defined that whole decade. It was a free for all and anybody's guess as to what could be a trend.
+susantyrellfans Yes, I lost touch with her around that time when she was in Miami and I was in Tenerife. I was worried too cos she lived for Bollie. I am looking for her now because Nick Black who hosts an Australian radio show called Purple Haze wants to contact her and he contacted me after reading my article about her on Hubpages. Do you know how Nick and I can get in touch please?
Bollie stands for Bollinger her beloved ferret. I do not know much about the details of her death. I was hoping there would be an official news report somewhere in the media but I couldn't find any. Maybe by now this has changed? I will have a look.
I checked out Wikpidia and the information about the last girl band/music groups of the late 1960s and I'll be damned there's not a mention of The Cake at all, just the 'major' players who received the big media spotlight. WTH?!?
@MyHola1234 I'd like to speak to you... Jeanette was my mum. I can prove it with documentation if need be. She passed when I was a 2yr old and the only things I can find out are online as my dad would never talk without becoming upset.
@@atlasking6110 According to Tragic Magic The Life of Traffic’s Chris Wood by Dan Ropek: “What brought Jeanette to the point of finally leaving Chris? The sudden money shortage was likely the final straw. Jeanette would live the rest of her life with a recording studio engineer named Larry, although she and Chris would never divorce. Since friends had long ago assumed she was infertile, within a year she would be pregnant. In mid 1979 she gave birth to a boy she called Damien James, the names chosen to honor two souls lost at the other end of the decade: Anna and Jim Capaldi’s son Damien Thor, who died as a newborn in 1971, and her first love Jimi (James Marshall) Hendrix.”
