To me. Billy created the Turbo Rangers. Like a Zeo 2.0 cause Tommy in Dimensions in Danger briefly morphs into Zeo Red before going to Dino Thunder Black using a master morpher.
@@christopherbarker1048 I think it’s been widely accepted that Billy created the powers. When the others suspected him of being the Gold Ranger, he always claimed to be working on a special, secret project. That project was most likely the Turbo Powers. Unfortunately after David Yost’s abrupt departure, there were rewrites, which hastily resulted in the Rangers just creating the powers themselves with little to no explanation.
@@christopherbarker1048 I believe Billy was able to finish creating the Turbo powers before Zeo ended. Turbo powers were definitely a backup plan or plan B for when the Zeo powers started to become unstable and dangerous to continue using but maybe I'm wrong.
You know, it's admirable that despite the shit that David went through he still loves the rangers and his character so much. That takes some real passion and strength of character.
It makes you wonder how long he would have stayed on the show had the crew not been assholes towards him. He clearly loved the character and the show itself. In fact, now that I think about it, would we have gotten Justin in Billy was around? If Rocky was hurt and they needed a new Blue Ranger, there would have been a seasoned veteran of a Blue Ranger right there.
@@ssm85ytp I'm not sure what Beetleborgs had to do with it, but I know when ratings start dropping on a kids show the executives immediately think the kid viewers don't connect with the older characters, so a kid has to be added ASAP. This is, of course, ludicrous. I remember growing up I tended to find the younger character in an action cartoon annoying because they rarely were allowed to do anything.
He didn't used to, but over the years he's made peace with his demons and come to embrace that character. That does, indeed, take a great strength of character.
Maybe it could work like devil fruit users in One Piece -- being in rain or just getting splashed/sprayed doesn't cause problems, but having at least most of your body submerged does.
@@primecable ehhh I believe it was sustainable if you already put it out there that it's a very OP but just bad writing in from the producers and Saban since they didnt know where to go from there and plus Ohranger had about 50 episodes and they mainly used almost all of the footage for 40 something episodes
I've got a head canon that could work and make a bit more sense. AND IT'S NOT THE WATER'S FAULT....mostly. Here's what we know: The Zeo Crystal is a perpetual energy generator that grows in power the more its used. As with other Ranger powers, it has energy enough to channel power to its user to allowed for instantaneous morphs as we see in the episode "Invasion of the Ranger Snatchers." It can be assumed that the Zeo Crystal's power increases on a linear progression over the course of the show with the occasional bump due to new equipment being unlocked (Zeo Battle Cannon, Super Zeo Zords, etc.). The progression stays until the final episode of Zeo. In the Rangers' final battle against Mondo, the Machine King grows to the Macro Scale and leaves the team in a spot. Trey, now as Gold Ranger again, taps into the power of the Zeo Crystal and aids the Rangers in growing to that same scale. The Rangers win but now we have an issue. The energy needed to make one grow at the most basic subatomic level is astounding! Now take a team that's approximately 5'6" to 6' tall and make them all about 300ft tall. The sheer power needed for that would be exponentially massive! And all of that power is in the Zeo Subcrystals sitting in the Rangers' Zeonizers. Now we have a problem. When a power source a system meant to generate power has too much to give but is limited in how it passes the power out, it becomes unstable. We see it with Kat's morph in the Turbo movie. Last we see Kat morph in the series, again "Invasion of the Ranger Snatchers," Kat locks in her Zeonizer and in an instant she's Zeo Ranger 1! Now, the Zeonizer locks in and it takes forever for the suit to generate. It's slow, it sounds dangerous, and due to the instability, another kinetic impact from hitting water destabilizes the suit and cancels the morph. It's a concern for Zordon even when he comments even the Zords wouldn't be enough to handle Maligore. What if they aren't enough because the Zords couldn't handle the excess power from the recent energy jump. The Zeo Powers are dangerous at this time. So what can the team do? First, they would put down the Zeonizers for now. But not before taking some of the energy of the Zeo Crystal in a controlled burst to create the Turbo Zords, Turbo Morphers, and weapons. This would cover why the color schemes are the exact same as they were with Zeo. Once the powers were created, the Rangers could take back their Zeonizers and have them in a time when they are safe to use again. This would explain things like why Adam didn't use the Zeo Ranger 4 powers during "In Space" when that happens. I know, long-winded fan theory with a lot of hoops to jump through but it gives some idea that could make sense while opening the door to both the Zeo and Turbo powers coming back.
My headcannon has always been that the Zeo crystal was used in the Turbo system, as evidenced by the similar morphing technique, the crystal shards being stored in the Key, and the increased power output of the Zeo Crystals required newer, more robust hardware to handle and distribute the power load effectively. another bit of evidence is the Phantom Ranger's crustal, it being a great power source in it's own right This would mean that the Turbo powers are just a hardware upgrade to the Zeo Powers, with the Zeo Crystal being lost when the Turbo megazords and the command center were destroyed, the only reason they were not recovered was because of the Alliance of Evil's summons causing a rapid withdrawal. I personally believe then the crystals, megazords, and command center were recovered and used in the development of the Lightspeed Rescue Rangers, the megazords providing an engineering basis for the new zords, the command center providing data on the Morphing Grid, and the Zeo Crystals providing the power. As far as my head cannon goes, it is still used and held by Lightspeed Rescue. (But now shared with the veteran Zeo and Turbo rangers)
My headcanon was that the powers had continued to grow and thus became unstable and if nothing was done, it would've killed them so the Turbo powers were used to drain their portion of the crystal and while those powers were weaker they were far more stable. Another one came from a fanfic I saw about how the crystals were addicting. They just gave power to the rangers when asked. No wise spirit to temper it and they became afraid that if they didn't give up the powers they would do something they would regret so when Zordon gave them the Turbo powers they accepted without question.
@@jjmfdl yup, this is basically my head cannons too. Zeo powers grew too much for direct used and had to be taken from the morphers and into the turbo megazords or at least the powers were filters thru them for safer use.
As someone who watched Zeo I'm pretty sure when they adopted the Zeo powers they said that the Zeo powers would continue to increase in power and eventually become unstable and force them to stop using them. I think that was supposed to be a plot point in the Turbo movie.
I was always under the impression that in the Turbo movie when Katherine morphs and hits the water it was the impact that caused her to demorph and possibly damage her powers. She fell from pretty high up.
Interesting. My theory is this: When Divatox arrived on Earth looking for Lerigot, her ship infected the water in both Angel Grove as well as where Lerigot landed and it allowed it to short circuit the zeo crystals from the morphing grid. As far as the Turbo powers, they combined the residual energy left from the Zeo crystals and power coins to complete Billie’s experiments on Turbo technology that he started before he left and linked it to Eltar. This created new powers.
@@bbqseitan7106 yes but forever red was way before that and the mega mopher what’s only create to access all his powers as the green ranger power was destroyed and ninjor had the white ranger power and Dino ranger power ran out but zero ranger 5 red power wasn’t destroyed or ran out
And in ninja steel when debuted his legacy morpher that allowed him to morph into morphin green and white, zeo red and black dino since tj has the turbo red
İn the final episode of Power Rangers in space, red ranger destroyed the Zordon and a huge surge of energy emanated from it, destroying the old enemies in that energy wave, thus reclaiming their old Ranger powers. Example: •tommy got his master morpher in ninja steel dimensions in danger episode. •(mighty morphing red ranger) jason was also in forever red episode and he used his morpher. •(blue space ranger and red turbo ranger) Tj was red ranger again in forever red. I've heard that that was the original plan for Super Megaforce. But due to the clusterfuck that was that season's production, it obviously didn't happen.
It all makes sense now. The Zeo Crystals are made of salt, kinda like the pink himalaya salt you can buy. If they come into contact with water they simply disolve.
You know, water problem make some sense, we saw that gold ranger after being in Aquitar lost his power for time, and his race created the Zeo power, and it have the same problem, water.
And it makes sense even more if you consider that Zeo power isn't lost, in theory you can wait them to dry and they will return back to normal, like how gold ranger returned his power.
@@wou5.09 but the crash was very rough and explosions have been known to demorph rangers im not saying the water wasnt the final nail in the coffin on it but the rangers have interacted with water before, monsters have used it as a weapon before and they didnt demorph. it would take the impact of a crash like Kat hitting the water from high up, that fall would of killed hurt or more seriously hurt her had she not attempted to morph. my theory does work with yours and strengthens it as it would take an incredible amount of force to demorph a ranger Kat hitting the water was the force needed to stop mid way through and pyramidas crashing onto aquatar served as that force for the gold ranger it takes an incredible amount of force to de-power a ranger at least back in the day now im not sure if it would take alot seems like the rangers demorph alot more now than in the early days. anyway my point is that water alone isnt enough to force a demorph it takes a good amount of force
I love the you got so many of the originals to offer their thoughts. It's really fun to see the old team come back and say hi. Most of them are pretty active on instagram, and it's great that they still have fun with this stuff a lifetime later.
Zordon "The Machine Empire is defeated and the Earth is safe. Here, we made you the crappy Turbo powers as a replacement just in case and i'm taking the Zeo powers back home with me."
@@DUB_87 All joking aside, it makes more sense and is more satisfying then the "Zeo powers are hydrophobic". Not knocking the video, which is trying to be onscreen, canon info.
If you think about it, there is an electrical element to the Zeo powers, look at the suit detailing which resembles a micro chip or motherboard type style. And electricity has a weakness...water.
That doesn't even make any sense, since the Zeo powers came from a mystical source and not technological source like the original rangers. Being outdone by water is just dumb and lazy writing
Yeah. I think I'm gonna stick with the headcanon/fan theory that the Zeo Powers got too strong and overloaded or something. Atleast until I am told otherwise through official means.
The Zeo powers becoming unstable or the crystals becoming to powerful makes a lot more sense than the water theory. Maybe later on Tommy with all his years of experience was able to handle the Zeo powers for a another battle in Wild Force.
Probably was like The Gold Ranger powers with Jason: the power grew so much the Rangers' bodies can handle them and started to hurt them. There was a connection between the Zeo crystal and the Gold Ranger powers.
What if the water shorted the zeonizer/morpher an sent a feedback loop of the zeo powers back into the zeo crystals. Such a thing might damage the crystals making using them dangerous, as even a crack might lead to a full blown failure of the crystals an release all of their power at once.
@@jay1hi547 also remember we found out later he meet hallie between leaving the rangers and wild force, so hallie( who built the dino thunder morphers) could have fixed it for him before wild force, then later made the master morpher for him.
For Kat's morph, the Suits were designed to protect the rangers. When ever a ranger has taken a massive blow that the suit can't absorb they lose that power. Eric from The Time Force Rangers is a great example.
I’m pretty sure the water had disturbed her morph sequence. That’s what I always had assumed and would make sense seeing as most electronics, especially around the time the movie was made short circuit/get destroyed with water.
I never thought of the water or the injury being a factor. After all, she wasn't yet injured when she was morphing. I always thought that what happened to Jason with the Gold ranger powers eventually started happening to the other's as well. Hence Kat not being able to stay morphed. As the Zeo powers kept getting stronger, the rangers could no longer handle them thus having to use Zeo powers to make the weaker but more stable Turbo Powers. That's my theory. 🤷🏽♂️
My head canon is when she hit the water she wasn’t fully morphed and her hurting her leg on impact interrupted her morph separating the connection between the two zeonizers before it finished, which cut off the morph. Then the movie just implies the turbo powers are stronger, which could have been true until the zeo powers aged more beyond the turbo series. We know that the red zeo powers were never destroyed due to Dino thunder and forever red. Taking the comics as canon as well the zeo powers are the most powerful in Tommy’s arsenal, but with his damaged master morpher he could only access them for a very short amount of time and only once. We also don’t know what happened to the zeo crystals after the command center was destroyed again so maybe they just couldn’t be recovered from the wreckage in time for space.
@@Mord12gp we would still need a reason for that though. Which is why I think they somehow made the turbo powers stronger in the short term and they lost their connection to the crystals when the command center was destroyed until they were recovered much later sometime before forever red but after space
@@konewhatsthenamespolicy6308 I like PR and while i do enjoy lore i can take a step back and see the bigger picture and the big picture is that there is no in lore reason for what happened to the powers. According to lore and logic the powers are still out there somewhere in the old command chamber. No one said the powers became the turbo powers or that they were destroyed. Besides its clear the writers didn't care. The rangers got the turbo powers. But what happened to the Zeo powers? Shrug, lets go
I'm definitely on board with the whole "Billy developed the Turbo powers and is the Phantom Ranger" theory, mostly because he seemed the most down about the fact that they only had 5 subcrystals and 5 rangers at the beginning of Zeo, so I feel like he developed 6 powers to make sure that the problem didn't end up happening again, and that he just brought the Phantom Ranger powers with him to Aquitar in case of an emergency so that the core powers were still there and usable, otherwise if he had remained on Earth, it would've been likely that he would've become the Blue Turbo Ranger over Justin. Another reason I believe this is because the Phantom Ranger appeared after "Passing the Torch" therefore he didn't know a single person on the team, and rather than exposing who he was, he preferred to keep himself hidden since his identity would have no meaning to TJ or the rest of the second-gen Turbo rangers. It's the best I can come up with for the development of the Turbo powers and who the Phantom Ranger is, all wrapped in a little package. Good video and I'm looking forward to Lost Galaxy VS Gingaman!
I refuse to accept the water theory. There's so much unexplained like Adam coming back as the black MMPR but in Zeo Zordon states that the old power rangers are gone forever.🤔
@@digitaladventurer2142 I think that mmpr coins are copies from the originals. Adam, Aisha and Rocky coins aren't the same as Trini, Zack and Jason. Just duplicates. Just a theory.
@@FZuloaga doesnt change the fact that his coin was cracked to high heaven when he came back in black during Space. They even said that if he tried to morph it could destroy him. Still doesn't change how much of a plot hole it is.
saying the old rangers are gone forever was just phrasing, the power coins and morphers can always be repaired. watching Linkara's History Of Power Range - In Space actually solves this riddle.
Someone on another UA-cam channel had an idea that the powers were going to become to much for them to handle. Reason why Jason had to give up the gold power.
Glad to see you're making content again. I was subscribed a while back, then realized it had been 2 years since you last made a video. Looking forward to hopefully more regular scheduled content. Keep it coming.
my theory: breaking the reassembling and then siphoning power from the zeo crystal caused the crystal to begin to break down and destabilize causing the stored energy to dissipate when immersed in water s liquid that conducts electricity the powers were drawn into the water causing the suits to disperse, Billy kept disappearing to siphon the crystal in an attempt to store enough energy to create a new set of powers and zords as the zeo zords would no longer function without the crystal.
I mean Tommy not morphing would explain why he's able to create the Zeo coin for the Master Morpher. So his powers not being completely destroyed would allow him to adapt it later for reuse.
I love how much detail you put into your videos and how you were able to get the former yellow ranger to answer your question. Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see what other content you come up with.
I saw this movie the weekend it came out in theaters. When Kat tried to morph into water and it failed, my cousins and I giggled "well, that didn't work!" and we never thought about it again. It never occurred to me that there was no solid explanation as to why the Zeo powers were no more until I saw this video!
I have to agree with Jason's answer. It could be a combination of the morpher being activated, plus the impact of the water could have caused the morpher to overload the Zeo Crystal, which destroyed it (kind of like overloading a battery through electrical surges, as indicated through the sparks that can be seen in the water when Katherine was submerged). That's just my input, though.
The wierdest thing about this is that the Zeo Rangers do fight a water themed villain, Leaky Faucet, I believe his name was. And not only that, but there were some underwater scenes with the Super Zeomegazord its debut, Adam's zord has a fight underwater.
Alpha 5: shouldn't we water proof the zero power? Zordon: no Billy: but this seems like a terrible design flaw, we should fix that Zordon: no Alpha and billy: why? Zordon: there is a simple explanation
Nice job getting the actors to say what they remember. It seems pretty clear that Tommy's Zeo powers weren't destroyed, as he utilised them in Forever Red. I always just thought that the Turbo powers were an upgraded version of the Zeo powers. However, it could just be more that the mechanism which works the Zeonisers, moreso than the Zeo crystals themselves, is what malfunctions in water. It's a pretty major design flaw by Billy, Alpha and Zordon to be honest hahaha.
Apparently the water damage is NOT the case, as in episode 31 a COG throws Tanya and Rocky into water and nothing happens. Not to mention super zeozord IV being able to dive and fight underwater.
The water theory is interesting. I do remember many scenes of Adam (Zeo Ranger 4), being underwater inside his Super Zeo Zord, which had no effect on his powers.
Plus they once fought a monster called Leaky Faucet. Its a better theory to just say that Zordon wanted to give the rangers new powers that could be transferred to others in a grand plan to make more ranger teams in a war against evil. Or you just go with the basic logic of the production crew ran out of ohrangers & needed a flashy way to bring in the next series.
I always figured that The Zeo morph was disrupted because of being injured while she was still morphing, and the sequence was broken. Interesting to hear these alternate perspectives on the process. Still, I think the Zeo powers were still stronger than the Turbo powers as well. It was never a great transition, and could of been done better. Still, it kept the series going and they let some of the other rangers go free to continue their own way.
Exactly! Plus there's an episode where they all come out of the water and morphed and the episode of Adam fighting a monster underwater in his Super Zeo Zord.
@@jay1hi547 My theory is that the Zeo Crystal was never supposed to be harnessed by humans and that the Zeo Powers were in fact killing the rangers as the powers grew stronger over time (Like how the Gold Ranger powers were hurting Jason)... The Zeo Crystal was in the Caves of Deception located beneath the Moon Palace of Lord Zedd and Rita. Knowing that Master Vile had plans for the crystal, Zordon asks the Rangers to acquire and destroy it. Tommy split the crystal into five pieces and was transported separately through time and space by Zordon. The only reason they had to use the Zeo Powers was Master Vile summoned the Orb of Doom, which he used along with his powers to turn back time on Earth, turning the Power Rangers into kids and rendering them powerless. Zordon determined that the only object capable of restoring the Earth and the rangers' powers was the Zeo Crystal
@@2011kmd I fully support that theory! It was said that it would keep getting stronger and stronger over time, so theoretically it would eventually become too much for a human to handle. That's why Adam didn't use it when he showed up on In Space. I do like to believe that later Billy found a way to put a cap on the Zeo powers so that they could use them without any problems, explaining why Tommy had his in Forever Red and everybody had theirs in Super Mega Force
The theory I've always accepted is that the Zeo powers are still bonded to their Ranger hosts, allowing the Rangers to go Zeo again at any time. However, since it grows stronger each time it's used, it eventually becomes too dangerous to be used regularly with ordinary human physiology. Just look at Lord Drakkon in some versions of the comics, when he overdoses and overclocks various Ranger powers. Also, Zeo Gold tends to do this faster than the others, eventually becoming so dangerous that Jason has to give it up. It's very possible that at some point, the Rangers had to partially drain their powers in order to make the Zeo powers safe to use. But this is only biding their time before they inevitably need to drain once more. Since this is the case, they needed to switch to something that wouldn't rip their molecules apart after so many morphs. The Turbo powers were the perfect buffer; they just needed Lerigot's keys to make them complete. However, another key weakness of the Zeo powers is that excessive humidity weakens the biofield's bond with a morphed Ranger, damaging the suit and leading to a de-morph. If the Ranger isn't fully morphed, this process accelerates rapidly. To go after a water-themed villain like Divatox, the Zeo powers were at a huge disadvantage. The only Zeo-powered thing shown to tolerate water particularly well, was Super Zeo Zord 4. How the other Zeo zords would run into such trouble, yet the Dragonzord is still at the bottom of the ocean without rusting for years and years, is just one of the many magical mysteries that the show will probably never get around to explaining. Yes, the rushed way in which the Zeo powers got swept under the rug bothered me, as it did everyone else. Being so cheap, and so desperate to rush in a new era of toys, that you don't even properly send off the set you had before, is storytelling irresponsibility in a grand fashion. Saban in those days was often very irresponsible.
I mean, one possible explanation could be that the final fight with King Mondo, the fight where with the Zeo Gold powers they grew giant, might have drained the powers of the Zeo Crystals, so by the time Turbo happened, their Zeo powers were too drained, so that's why Kat's Zeo Ranger powers faded out when she dropped into the river. As a result, they had to shift into Turbo and leave their Zeo powers on the side. This is possibly why Tommy was able to use his Zeo Powers in Forever Red and why they appeared in Legendary Battle (though the Megaforce finale was pretty confusing in itself as we don't even know if that's just the keys of the past rangers or the actual rangers themselves.).
From what we know, Ninjor is only able to make and manipulate the Power Coins. Considering that Tommy still had his Zeo Morpher in Forever Red, and not the Power Coin based Master Morpher with a Zeo Coin, that's not the case. However, that could be why he has a Master Morpher with 4 different power coins now. Man if only we had a 20th anniversary season that could have explained all these things, and it wasn't like Ninjaman was in Gokaiger so he could have a role in the Mega Force adaptation. Oh...Wait a minute... To be honest we just got to accept that a majority of the writers, with the exception of Judd Lynn, didn't care a lot about continuity until maybe after Megaforce bombed and were getting lit on fire by fans.
Holy Moses! You actually asked the cast. Most fansnever ask the cast that i know of. In short they don't know and we just got Turbo Powers. I love this video
So I have a fan theory that when they grew in the finally of zeo it weaken there powers so thats why they had to switch to turbo but the zeo crystal was being recharged
In “Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie” Zordon tells the Rangers they need the new Zords and morphers because the crystals in the Turbo keys, like Larago’s wand will get them through the barrier that surrounds the island. In case anyone has forgotten Adam used his broken COPY of Zack’s original morpher because his replacement Carlos was now the Black Ranger and Carlos was helping him with his confidence. Black Ranger to Black Ranger.
@@DUB_87 Adam’s MMPR power morpher was created by the sword of Light when the powers were copied. Yes copied not transferred as Jason, Zack, and Trini are NOT powered down by it. So while yes it was Adam’s Morpher it was also a copy of Zacks.
@@DUB_87 Popular misconception; The Rangers all still had their Dino Coins, they got damaged by the Thunderzord destruction feedback loop, but otherwise still existed (S3 Ninja Quest). No reason to think otherwise. As widely known, Adam even uses his (damaged, but not disintegrated into dust) Dino Coin to attempt a morph in In Space (In Space's "Always a Chance"). The Power Coins that got crushed by Goldar/Rito (Alien Ranger's "Climb Every Fountain") were the second set of power coins, the Ninja Coins; Ape, Wolf, Crane, Falcon, Bear and Frog. These coins' powers were initiated when a Ranger calls out their Ranger Colour ("Red Ranger Power!" "Blue Ranger Power!" etc). The original (and the +1 unoriginal) Dino Coins: Tyrannosaurus, Sabre-Tooth Tiger, Mastodon, Triceratops, Pterodactyl, White Tiger, and Dragonzord were not destroyed (weird that only 3 out of 7 creatures tied to the Dino Coins are actually dinosaurs, but hey lol). Dragon didn't even get damaged and presumably was still sitting safely in the past at that point (as decided at the end of S2's "Return of the Green Ranger"). This is why it's specifically the Mastodon Coin Adam morphs with in his In Space episode (you know because that's what Adam calls out when he morphs, the S1&S2 "Mastodon", not the S3 "Black Ranger Power"), rather than the Frog Coin. I guess they just didn't see the mostly now power-less Dino Coins as much of a threat and worth bothering about anymore (though considering what happened when they neglected to claim the Dragon Coin in "Return of an Old Friend" in season 1, you'd think they'd have known better than that on the second go-around that even power-less Coins are still a threat - how soon villains forget lol).
The Zeo Crystal is an extremely powerful object which produces enormous amounts of energy, becoming stronger with the passage of time. In time Power Rangers were not able to handle that amount of energy (something similar happened with Jason and his Gold Ranger Powers). That’s why they had to either stop using the Zeo Crystals or convert their power into Turbo. As far as I remember the Rangers couldn’t morph during the Turbo movie events either because it was damaging for them or the Zeonizers did not work properly because of the energy transfer to the Turbo powers. The Zeo powers were still intact. It also explains why Tommy was able to morph during Forever Red.
even if he did lose his he meet hallie( who built the dino thunder morphers) by that time so she could have fix it before wildforce. it was never said in the movie why the stopped using them, just that the key for the turbo power was need to help open up where they was going.
In Dino Thunder after ZRV walked out as Tommy is about to face former selves. He stated "Zeo Ranger 5, but that's impossible". Never thought any of it till I watched it recently. If anything I'd think that everything Zeo was stored away after the Turbo powers where introduced and destroyed after the destruction of the power chamber at the end of Turbo.
I actually had theory that lines up with that. It was said early on in Zeo that their powers would continue to grow because the Zeo Crystal has perpetually infinite power, meaning it power will increase forever. My theory is that the power of the Zeo Crystal became too great for their Zeo forms so they needed to upgrade to better harness the power of the Zeo Crystal. This also could explain why Kat couldn't full morph during the fall into the river and why she I'm unmorphed apon impact. This is just a theory though.
@@samuellohnas900 they tell you it in the move that the Zeo power was use to make the new morphers and the other stuff. i can not believe people will forget what happen in the move is part of the start of Turbo a Power Ranger Movie.
@@supercloudreed I actually do remember that but my theory is more about why they needed to upgrade. They never say why story wise that they upgraded. Just that they did. My theory is just my explanations for it.
As I recall, there was a fight scene involving one of the Super Zeo Zords battling a monster under water in the Zeo series, so I think the Zeo powers might have some resistance or, at least tolerance, for water.
I feel like the Zeo Powers got TOO POWERFUL for the team to handle, like their bodies and maybe souls would be destroyed, the Turbo Powers are just something that zordon found lying around the command center one day cause he was seeing the strain the Zeo Powers were putting on the rangers
Honestly I just always assumed Turbo Rangers were essentially repurposed Zeo Rangers, maybe getting some more power out of the crystals due to the update.
I think I have to agree with JDF. There was probably some sort of short circuit with the morpher and with the added danger of the powers becoming unstable due to their over use and ever growing power. The only rangers I can think of that are fully suited for aquatic combat are the rangers of Aquatar and since Billy is there (although this is by no means cannon) he MUST have had something to do with the turbo powers and zords even before going to Aquatar. The zords according to Zordon are the most powerful ever created and they are easily the most practical which is a definite Billy signature. His rapid aging process gave him great wisdom and the science of Aquatar gave him the means to help the rangers at least one more time. Thanks Billy!!!
that is no longer possible they likely dont have the original footage anymore it was shot so long ago that the odds of them finding that footage in the archives in hollywood isnt likely sadly which sucks but because it was likely recorded on normal film and not using a digital system the footage is lost to time.
I'm willing to accept that when Kat alone tried morphing underwater that it short circuited the entire Zeo crystal on a quantum mechanical level. Thus, the other scenes weren't even needed. Perhaps exposure to water while morphing is a legit flaw in the power grid but since Kat fell with nobody around it is still a secret from villains, thankfully. Another theory: yes, the Zeo powers were arguably the most powerful but IF water was a specific weakness then the Machine Empire couldn't exploit it because they're machines themselves who's weakness would naturally be water as well (unless they all wear raincoats like Leaky Faucet). Thus, it was a stalemate there. Once Divatox came into the picture as a water villain it was basically game over for Zeo.
One theory is that Billy needed the Zeo Crystal for something, hence the need for the upgrade. Zordon did say that they needed the new Turbo powers and especially the Zords to get through the Nemesis Triangle and were the only Zords capable of fighting Maligore once he was successfully summoned. We've seen how well the Zeo Zords fared against non-robots like Impursonator; plus, other reasons aside, Zedd and Rita were slated to return as the Turbo villains before it changed to Divatox returning. And speaking of Impursonator, Super Zeo Zord 4 could be used underwater against her and Drill Master in its first fight. That's another plothole altogether.
Nice video dude. Neat you got the actors involved, too! I gotta call shenanigans on the water theory. Adam, Super Zeo Zord went underwater at least once for a battle.
well, for many years there was a theory that said that the powers eventually became too great for the rangers to handle, so it would make sense that the reason why kat began to morph but just couldn't was because it eventually became a huge strain on the rangers bodies; in soul of the dragon tommy outright says we dropped the zeo powers because they grew too powerful, then again the comic may not be canon so you take what you can get, right
My head canon has long been that the Zeo Crystal was the power source for the Turbo powers; that somehow this was needed to either boost or stabilize the Zeo energy output (Zeo powers grow over time).
I’m going to make a video soon too. The best theory/info I gathered is that zeo powers turned into the turbo power. They converted to the turbo powers when they touched the turbo alter when they received their powers. It just converted. It just doesn’t make sense the Zeo powers could easily be destroyed by water. Plenty of Ranger were tossed in water.
Here's my head cannon, built from clues I've learned from the power rangers recap series on here regarding the zordon saga: We have seen that the super zeo gems are used to access the super zeo zords, but not for much of anything else. I believe billy began to experiment with deriving powers and effects from the super zeo gems, which is why the turbo colors follow the zeo colors and ALSO why the turbo powers were believed to be more powerful than the stock zeo ones. It also could explain away the shape of the turbo morpher itself, since I imagine it would be like a circuit that used a switch that , when complete, touches the super zeo gem and accesses the morphing grid, similar to a crystal oscillator in PCBs, and watches. THEN billy build and designed zords and gear around the powers that came from the turbo morphers, with help from the aquitar rangers technology. Doesn't that make sense?
Just a off the cuff theory here, but it could be in their rush to create their ZEO Morphers there was a inherent flaw billy was working on fixing thru the turbo morphers. He had been spending so much time working with the auquitarian rangers to correct the failing safety protocols of the ZEO crystals.
Though Kat had tried to morph when falling into water and was interrupted, her powers were still there but were never needed. This also applies to the others. They were never in a situation where they needed to morph.
The fact that the "Rangers" took part in this video makes me smile. Love your channel so much!
I love that the cast actually all took part in this video to offer their take, it's really cool of them.
@@thedefinitionisthis The latter in my head is that they finished working on Billy's project.
@@christopherbarker1048 I believe Billy was able to finish creating the Turbo powers before Zeo ended. Turbo powers were definitely a backup plan or plan B for when the Zeo powers started to become unstable and dangerous to continue using but maybe I'm wrong.
@@jay1hi547 Nah, they were getting unstable. Look at Jason when he had the Zeo Gold power. Would've happened to the others.

@@Krendall2 I think Justin will still be a ranger. I think Justin was brought in because of the popularity of the Big Bad Beetleborgs at that time.

Yeah, that does make a lot more sense than "it's because of magic water".
I love this.

Alsoalso, it's noteworthy that the red Zeo crystal still functions later on in Forever Red and in Tommy's Master Mopher
Interesting. My theory is this:
When Divatox arrived on Earth looking for Lerigot, her ship infected the water in both Angel Grove as well as where Lerigot landed and it allowed it to short circuit the zeo crystals from the morphing grid.
As far as the Turbo powers, they combined the residual energy left from the Zeo crystals and power coins to complete Billie’s experiments on Turbo technology that he started before he left and linked it to Eltar. This created new powers.
So nice of the cast to take time out of their day to answer this question.
Tommy’s still had his powers in forever red so he didn’t loss them
The Mega Morphers are recreations from the grid
Not the true essence

•tommy got his master morpher in ninja steel dimensions in danger episode.

@@wou5.09 But they didn’t have the time or didn’t notice.
didnt he technically lose his power from the crash not so much from the water though?
@@futuredirector23 Water makes more sense.

@@blink56k ahh yea good point
That doesn't even make any sense, since the Zeo powers came from a mystical source and not technological source like the original rangers. Being outdone by water is just dumb and lazy writing
Yeah. I think I'm gonna stick with the headcanon/fan theory that the Zeo Powers got too strong and overloaded or something. Atleast until I am told otherwise through official means.
My head canon was that the Zeo powers were unstable due to something
They said that the crystals were always supposed to get more powerful over time, but its never stated.
I was under the impression that Kats morph failed because she was injured. She had hurt her leg and that is why she could not morph.
I’m pretty sure the water had disturbed her morph sequence. That’s what I always had assumed and would make sense seeing as most electronics, especially around the time the movie was made short circuit/get destroyed with water.
My take was that she took her wrists apart when she hit the water to start swimming, disrupting her morph.
What really happened to the zeo powers: Heim saban seeing carrangers "dat look good I can steal from that."
My theory is when Kat was morphing, she was accessing the morphin grid and the water caused the grid to malfunction, destroying their powers
My head canon is that the powers never went away they just don't use them anymore.
@@Mord12gp well yah obviously the answer is they didn’t care and moved on to the next Sentai series for footage, but that’s why it’s theory crafting

Also it helps in forever red, and explain it.
Maybe so.
I think his Zeo Crystal was powering the Master Morpher and Ninjor helped restored the rest
He probably got it from Gosei. He has copies of every power.
The crystals are used to "transmit" power like a focusing lens, when Cat tried to morph, it short circuited causing her crystal to explode?
I love how much detail you put into your videos and how you were able to get the former yellow ranger to answer your question. Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see what other content you come up with.
I saw this movie the weekend it came out in theaters. When Kat tried to morph into water and it failed, my cousins and I giggled "well, that didn't work!" and we never thought about it again. It never occurred to me that there was no solid explanation as to why the Zeo powers were no more until I saw this video!
Gosei: There's a simple explanation for that.
I wonder if it's the same mermaid they used in Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue.
7:35 I always thought Adam looked kinda weird during the morphing scene!😱🤯
So the zeonizers is prone to water damage lol if only King Mondo and the Machine Empire knew of this
They probably did but being Machines would have rusted themselves 😆
Probably cause they are Machines and machines can't do jack in water
Water damage doesn't make sense because there is an episode of Power Rangers Zeo where Adam was underwater fighting a monster in his Super Zeo Zord.
they weren't bright. hehe.
Alpha 5: shouldn't we water proof the zero power?
Zordon: no
Billy: but this seems like a terrible design flaw, we should fix that
Zordon: no
Alpha and billy: why?

Its a better theory to just say that Zordon wanted to give the rangers new powers that could be transferred to others in a grand plan to make more ranger teams in a war against evil.
Or you just go with the basic logic of the production crew ran out of ohrangers & needed a flashy way to bring in the next series.
I swear Power Rangers irl are always so wholesome when talking to fans! Nakia is such a sweetheart
If you remember during the Zeo Quest the young Adam had to find his Zeo crystal in the waterfall so it should have never worked from the beginning.
Exactly! Plus there's an episode where they all come out of the water and morphed and the episode of Adam fighting a monster underwater in his Super Zeo Zord.
I agree

By extension what happened to the zeo zords, they weren't destroyed and my theory is they still are in storage.....
they likely are
Like how even the Dragon Zord is still around...
Maybe Ninjor brought Tommy's Zeo Powers back maybe thats how he had them in Forever Red?
Essentially that is the case.
I thought ninjor like Scorpina just vanished 1 day without any explanation
Detective Pomelo is on the case
Holy Moses! You actually asked the cast. Most fansnever ask the cast that i know of. In short they don't know and we just got Turbo Powers. I love this video
Props for getting the guests on this video
He was using his own morpher. As far as we know, Zack, Jason, and Trini's morphers were fine. Goldar and Rito crushed the other Rangers power coins.
@@DUB_87 Adam’s MMPR power morpher was created by the sword of Light when the powers were copied. Yes copied not transferred as Jason, Zack, and Trini are NOT powered down by it. So while yes it was Adam’s Morpher it was also a copy of Zacks.
@@matthewrosenthal753 Yo, I never thought about them being copied.
The Turbo powers were an “upgraded” version of the Zeo powers. They have the same colors and everything. Simple as that.
You’d think power based on cars wouldnt be very functional in water either.
As I recall, there was a fight scene involving one of the Super Zeo Zords battling a monster under water in the Zeo series, so I think the Zeo powers might have some resistance or, at least tolerance, for water.
Oh yeah I forgot so that explanation doesn't work
Starts with "if you've been watching my series"
Me after binging the whole series for the last day "YES?"
Nakia looking GOOD 24 years later wow!!!
If we can get the synder cut of Justice league get released, we shoudl be able to get a directors cut of turbo
that is no longer possible they likely dont have the original footage anymore it was shot so long ago that the odds of them finding that footage in the archives in hollywood isnt likely sadly which sucks but because it was likely recorded on normal film and not using a digital system the footage is lost to time.
Damn tanya actress hasn't age a day, l guess the term black don't crack really is true.
Good looking woman.
:)
David Yost though...
Really aged.
:o
Of course, these guys are nearly what... 50?
Rest in peace Jason David Frank.
Goated cast. So kind to the fans.
Nice work in explaining the mystery of the missing Zeo Powers.
Divatox: Piranhatrons use watergun
Zeo Rangers; I'm MELTING!
Here's my head cannon, built from clues I've learned from the power rangers recap series on here regarding the zordon saga:
We have seen that the super zeo gems are used to access the super zeo zords, but not for much of anything else.
I like the idea that Tommy used them to create the dino thunder ranger powers
