Hi Kim! What if you put some paper behind the doll house/ book shelf and canopy. The corner is very white which I think might be part of the reason it feels off. Maybe some of the wood paper and leaves or lights on/in the canopy to make it feel like a fantasy cabin in the woods vibe. I hope that makes sense! 😅

That fridge is definitely going to look great once the kids stuff is up there. You could also add “magnets” to it to help it look more like a fridge. Maybe some of the cheap fridge letters or clips but with blue sticky tack or something. Just and idea.

I agree! I also think that instead of moving it back, if you want it to be centered, you should move it forward :) Also, you could add an empty box on the top shelf so that the stuffies can see over the top!
You could add two more strips of washi tape to make “handles” for the fridge and freezer! I think that would kinda complete the look :)
you should add some lights and greenery to the canopy it will look way brighter and match the rest of the classroom and bulletin board
I think adding the left over leaves from the white board will go great on the canopy with some fairy lights. It’ll make it look very cozy. Maybe a small rug underneath to section it off?

I think you need some of that better than paper to go on the back wall behind the bookcase. It will help your canopy pop better.
Definitely put some paper behind the doll house bookshelf - it'll make the canopy and the dollhouse standout (the off white is throwing it off) and make it more cozy. I'd also add washi tape handles to the fridge and glue some fake magnets to the fridge like clips and those stereotypical alphabet letters
I like the bookshelf/canopy. If you don’t like the gap, maybe you could use fishing line to lower the canopy.
Twinkle lights in the canopy will be so cute
Maybe try some old shoe boxes to help the animals sit above the roof line. Or just random boxes of different heights from home.
I love the "fridge" idea to show off student work! Very cute! Also great for kids that might not get recognition at home

A wire shelf riser or a basket would be cute for the buddies. And some lights inside the canopy. It’s got a lot of potential!
Hi Kim, I think you should add either three or four tones of green ribbon flowing down from the ring of the canopy or eucalyptus leaves to match your classroom.
Hey Kim, i have a suggestion for you for the little shelf with push pins. get three or four push pins and place them directly under the shelf so there is extra support for the shelf but you wont be able to see them from underneath. hope this helps!! brilliant vlog today!!

For the calendar…put the month ABOVE the pocket chart and then you will have enough rows for all of the numbers under the days of the week. Your room is looking great!
Your room is so cute and coming together so well!! The canopy with the painted doll house looks super cute. I think your students will LOVE IT!! Also love the neutral theme and cannot wait to see the finished product!! Wishing we could get into our rooms…one more week! 🥺😆
I agree with the comments below about adding colour behind the bookshelf and canopy.
To lift the book dudies, how about making a small shelf so that it is a regtangle without a long side, so that the short sides are on the top of the bookshelf and the long side is on the top and the book buddies could be sitting on that.

Love the setup! If you do decide to have your carpet space at the back, why not get a rolling flip chart/whiteboard? (Brit here, not sure what you call those in the US. I know you use another word.) Anyway. That way, you will be more flexible, and students will still be able to access any flip charts when they work from their desk.

If you put bean bags or cushions on the floor it will hold the canopy open the perfect amount. You can then move the bookshelf to the side.

Your room looks great! Would you be able to do a post or video on all your recommended pd books ? If you have a lot of reading buddies maybe the top can be for them bigger ones and the first or bottom shelf can be for the smaller ones with books on the other two shelves. Looking forward to your next room vlog .
Add small twinkle lights in the canopy. That will help. I think its cute.
Maybe to make to make the fridge look more like one maybe put of washi tape on the freezer to make it look like handles. And I love your classroom

I feel like we have the same attention to detail… my class is a woods theme…. Sooo much fun to create and decorate but a lot of work.
But some pieces of colored tule to tie to the canopy circle, so it’s multicolored. Or you could use ribbon!
Also, maybe Washi tape handles for the fridge!
This could just be me, but I think it would really add to your canopy if you attached some of your eucalyptus strands where the flaps open up! Again, could just be me.

Turn bookshelf to the side and have a chair or cushions. Add fairy lights.
Try putting the bookshelf kitty corner and then the canopy might look better.
Hey kim! If you try getting a plain white bedsheet that is a thicker white and DIY your own? Also put some contact paper and lights in that corner?
Hi Kim! Last year I discovered that I could hang things on my bulletin board using command hooks. They stuck really well to bulletin board paper and I bet they would work on the fabric too. They have wire hooks with clear bases that would work well with your black fabric. I was afraid your push pins wouldn't make it-- sorry! Hope this helps!!
You could use the hooks to hang your little shelves.
What if you use a piece of rope or ribbon to lower the canopy further? Or maybe some greenery around the hoop? Although I had a completely different idea to do a cloud with twinkle lights above the house instead (where the cloud is 3D with like the white cushion stuffing)
For the house bookshelf what about having your book buddies on the shelf with the books, have some buddies in the corner where it would be harder to reach books...

If your tapestry is big enough you put it in the book Corner also!
You should add the year to your calendar. Right next to the month maybe?
Hang the canopy a bit lower so that the curtain is more on the floor. This will give a whole different impression.

Kim, use washi tape to make handles on your "fridge" and I think you will like it better. You could also put a name or title on it like the name brand. I can't think of a name right now but...
Cute idea! She could even make the logo for the brand. Some brands are; Samsung, GE, Maytag, Whirlpool, KitchenAid....
Please explain magic scrap. I haven´t heard of it. Your classroom is looking good!
You tell students there is one “magic scrap”. They have to pick up at least 5 pieces of garbage and if they get the “magic scrap” they get a prize. It has them pick up more pieces of garbage at the end of the day.
Try some photo easels from the dollar tree to give your stuffed animals a lift

Put the book buddies on spice rack risers
Do teachers ever discuss sensory in the classroom? I'm just curious because I never thought of it until a parent brought it up to me. But, my child is color blind.
I have definitely discussed it during my Spec Ed course and in PD. Often it relates to having different lighting and bringing in different fidget tools and different seating, or even how the classroom is arranged (very hard with COVID!!!!). One thing that I find tricky is sound sensory - I don’t want a quiet room, I want discussions but this can be overwhelming for students. Visually I try to keep similar colours and almost nothing on the wall where I often teach from so that it’s not distracting. As minimal decor and posters as possible, unless it’s student created.

I have been meaning to ask. Do American schools have school libraries too? Or just classroom libraries?
Yes we have a library in our k-4 school. It has morphed over the years to a resource /steam/ technology room. The library teacher has also become responsible for a career curriculum.

Is this an American thing or what? You change classes every year? Or is it a teachers everywhere thing? Actually, another question: I don't remember any schools decorating quite as thoroughly as I see a lot of American teachers- is this level of decoration normal in your areas?
I think it depends on the school/district. Most of the teachers in my district don't change every year, I've just gotten very unlucky haha!
