I have the exact same ski. Dad bought new in 90 at a boat show at Cal Expo in Sac. Had it for 34 years now and still runs new. Always been covered and is a 9/10 condition. I’ll never get rid of it until I sink it lol
Great video all around. Not sure why YT recommended this, but I recently sold my boat and was looking for a new project. Now I keep finding myself searching for old jetskis. Just a nice video to watch. Thanks!
I have the exact same jetski, it doesn’t seem like there’s a whole lot of info and videos for a vxr vs some of the other wave runners. My engine shakes a lot at idle and is very loud but from what I’m hearing that’s somewhat normal for these motors
You need to get the plastic rod/axel out from behind where the oil pump was, and the small rubber block offs is for where you took the hoses of from the carb so no junk get in there. With that said keep doing this it's really fun to watch😄👍
love to see the old skis getting some love. too many are just thrown away. the blockoff caps in the oil pump delete kit are for the carb where the oil lines used to connect. also, with that much water in the fuel, you should replace the separator (white filter in the fuel line inside the hull)
Always good to disable the oil injection on these 2 strokes, that's the number one failure that kills these skis. I did the same on my 96 Yamaha waveraider 760. Just premix all my gas. Safest way for sure
Love the videos, I've been watching marketplace for a cheap jet ski so I have my own project jet ski to work on. Definitely got the inspiration from these videos keep up the good work man!
Got around to watching this video now as we spoke the other day on your other 650 you did. Now I'm eagered to get back down yo the lake and fix the issue. Im sure thats exactly what my issue is as the haul is filling up with water. But lastly, is their a bilge pump on these? If you look on the very back of the jet pump, it has a black nozzle thats pointing upwards. Nothing is connected to that nozzle on mine. I could have swore it used to shoot out from there years ago.
@@bradbearden346 I believe there is a bilge strainer on the bottom of the hull that a hose should connect the jet pump to. The jet pump then creates a vacuum that creates suction through the hose. Though I think the nozzle you might be talking about is what is used to create a rooster tail out the back but all mine were broken on my skis.
I have a 1990 yamaha wra650d and I want to flush the Coolant system but don't know where to hook up? Any help? Also how to know if oil injection is or not working?
Nice job you must have alot more options to grab them old skis.speaking of such i happen to have an 94 yamaha vxr 650 i need the rubber bumpers that go around the hull mine runs fine but plastic bumper gaurds are cracked apart every six inches.cant seem to buy new all discontinued.makes it look junky.ive even looked at differant hosing to make something work no luck.you dont have a spare junk body with similar gaurds you would part with do you.?ive gotten ripped off twice now just trying exporters off off brand stuff.need help locating something thatll work!!!snooky pa💥🤪😀👍💥
I’m so disappointed I’ve purchased 3 of those old yamahas last season and all of them would run really great but wouldn’t propel enough to get it going! Any ideas what I was doing wrong?
You probably need to look at tuning your jets on your carburetor. The channel Jet Ski Rehab has a video or two about that which would probably help you. I have been lucky so far and haven't really had to deal with that yet but I probably should look into it. Also take a look at your impeller and wear ring to see if there are any broken blades or if there is a lot of space between them.
I'd second what rural playground said about the impeller and wear ring. I had that same problem with my seadoo jetboat. Previous owner got a rope caught up in it and I had similar problem with it not having much power. Changed the jet and wear ring and full power!

I remember when that ski just came out. It was cutting edge lol the hull was a big yamaha selling point.
Boss man, gasket was for water intrusion, there's nothing in there that can leak, block off and new gasket you're good 👍

I just bought the same jet ski also for $200 we'll see how it goes your video is quite inspiring, thanks
How's it been going Hendry?

Love my vxr handles amazing
Let’s go! You inspired me to make my own videos on my channel. I am almost done with a pair of two of them
Nice! Looks like you got some good projects to work on!
Well put together video man you should post more ski content
Working on a waverunner 3 video right now.

Yeah, not sure where you could find new guards. I think your best bet would be finding a hull for cheap to use for parts.

If you do an oil injection delete you have to mound some blockoff plate?
Yes. I got mine from SBT.
Bro did you even watch the video?
was this the one in flint? Me and a buddy were going to buy this but cancelled last second.
Yeah, it was over that way so it's quite possible.
Do you have to service the oil in the crankcase now since you removed the oil container?
There's no oil in the crankcase. Premixed fuel (gas+oil) is poured into the fuel tank and that both fuels and lubricates the engine.
Do you know if there are any modifications to make it go faster?
A new impeller is about the only thing you can do that would be cost effective.
Are you able to tow a person behind one of these ?
You can with the 650 engine but you won't get too much speed out of it.
Did you sale the other two yet?
Actually just did today.
Just bought the exact same ski for....$200... no spark. I think the cdi is gone
after watching ... so turning it to pre-mix
clean out the contacts on the start stop switch first
Can I buy one of these from you
Few bucks and some common sense
