Well to be fair, there was another really good musical that year: Spring Awakening. And the worst thing about having more than one amazing musical is that one of them always gets robbed. Unfortunately Legally Blonde fell victim of this phenomenon.
also can we just talk about how paulette didn't change anything but her confidence for the whole musical? like her clothes, hair, and general physical appearance stayed exactly the same for the whole musical. the girls just taught her to be more confident in her body and she still got the guy. makes me smile every time.
@@HerHollyness it was based on the film so of course duh??? what's amazing is that the musical did not change the movie premise that much. it was even much MUCH better than the movie because of how iconic the songs are. turning it into a comedy musical was a great move for them rather than sticking to the slightly more serious tone that the movie had
This musical was so underrated back when it came out. Not only the Tony thing but a lot of "serious" (PUN INTENDED) Broadway people saw it as a joke. It was like... that dumb musical based on that dumb movie. When in fact it is so well done, so well-rounded with a really tight narrative, solid dialogue, great choreography and awesome music... funny moments, epic moments, emotional moments and even a few truth nuggets. I completely understand what Orfeh means when she says 'Legally Blonde is just about as close to a perfect musical as you can get'. To me, it's an example of 'everything done right'. So yeah, pretty ironic that it was misjudged by the industry in the exact same way Elle was misjudged in the show xD
FACTS and not only that but I think it made the movie better. Complimented the source material amazingly while also fleshing out side characters and Emmett and Elle’s relationship so much more.

In this scene, emmett and Elle are spending proper time together outside of law stuff, I guess it’s where they’re falling in love. so when he goes , what’s that smell, and the shop assistant says “love, by ....” that is subtext, because he’s like “what is happening I’m with Elle and I’m confused” the answer is he’s falling in love! so. when he says what’s that smell again (or something like that I don’t remember) they say subtext to joke about how obvious the previous use of subtext was!!! sorry if the was over explaining, that line is genuinely my fav line in anything ever it’s so good
“Your daughter’s doing something right” makes me so sad. She was failing for a while there and probably wondered if she would continue to fail. And she’s doing something right. I’m so proud of her.

Something I love about Emmett and Elle is their friendship. Emmett genuinely wanted to help her and see her succeed with no ulterior motives. Their romance came organically from a foundation of mutual respect.
Legally Blonde the Musical has some of the best onstage chemistry I've ever seen in a lead couple; I come back to it again and again because I fully and completely believe in the characters' friendship, their attraction, their teamwork, everything that goes into a healthy partnership! The "butthead" scene is honestly one of my favorite relationship moments in any show, based both on the writing and the actors' portrayal; it's so realistic, and fits so well for the characters.
The fact that Borle has been: Gay Shakespeare And gay divorced man in love And a super duper straight lawyer man And was married to Sutton Foster at one point, Is incredibly funny and perfect

I hadn't seen the musical before. My best friend introduced it to me I think 2 weeks ago? I've watched it maybe twice a day almost every day since then? - I work from home taking calls and emails, so I can get away with it too xD
10:40 this scene is gorgeous. The costumes really bring it together bc both of them have gone through a pretty big style change/makeover, both being more serious and quite literally "dressing for the job they want". This is also a result of each other; Emmett's outfit is a direct courtesy of Elle, and Elle's outfit is an indirect courtesy of Emmett, who helped her get the internship and get serious with her studies. It really helps you see how much they've built each other up, and really adds to the yearning of the scene. And, despite them being dressed in business attire, you still get a feeling of star-crossed lovers. Just a little something I noticed that gave me goosebumps the first time I noticed. Also WOW this is a good scene.

The shoe coming off is what I love about live theatre. In film you can redo the scene if something goes wrong. But it’s a mark of a great performer when they can improvise when things go wrong.
I did a workshop with Christian Borle, and let me tell you, he is just as chaotic as you would think. He told us that he started this thing called "mid-weekend" which basically means that every Wednesday, he just hangs out. I introduced him to Starkid and TCB and he told me that he'd check them out during the mid-weekend.
Oh yeah, I also did one with Annaleigh Ashford and she's great. She told us that they named the stenographer in the court scene Denise or Leslie and kept coming up with wilder and wilder backstories for her.
That cute little footsie dance thing during chip on my shoulderis just like ah- I can't it's just- UGH OMFG IT WAS SO CUTE Edit: I also want to talk about how all the outfit Elle wear are fantastic. Like gosh I wish I had her fashion sense. And i think it's really awesome that Elle was the one to propose. Fuck my romance standards are so high because of this musical.

10:40 this scene is gorgeous. The costumes really bring it together bc both of them have gone through a pretty big style change/makeover, both being more serious and quite literally "dressing for the job they want". This is also a result of each other; Emmett's outfit is a direct courtesy of Elle, and Elle's outfit is an indirect courtesy of Emmett, who helped her get the internship and get serious with her studies. It really helps you see how much they've built each other up, and really adds to the yearning of the scene. And, despite them being dressed in business attire, you still get a feeling of star-crossed lovers. Just a little something I noticed that gave me goosebumps the first time I noticed. Also WOW this is a good scene.

I did a workshop with Christian Borle, and let me tell you, he is just as chaotic as you would think. He told us that he started this thing called "mid-weekend" which basically means that every Wednesday, he just hangs out. I introduced him to Starkid and TCB and he told me that he'd check them out during the mid-weekend.
Oh yeah, I also did one with Annaleigh Ashford and she's great. She told us that they named the stenographer in the court scene Denise or Leslie and kept coming up with wilder and wilder backstories for her.
