i thought this would be a good time because the netflix flim just came out and there’s a lot of parts i thought people should see!! this took forever please leave a like :,)

bootleg!!- it got removed :(
hey!! if your reading this, you are amazing and i’m so freaking proud of you😚😚
ok please read
1. thank you so much for all the views and likes and nice comments i love you all
it felt like a gay movie for straight people where the musical is gay for gay people. idk if that makes sense.
This is the closest I’ll get to rewatching the slime because they took it down
I look for it on yt and nothing
And I’m sad but this helps
Oh my god yesss. Thank you so much. Everything that you listed out here is exactly how i feel about the movie.
"it felt super straight" sent me
"it felt straight" why is that so aCCURATE
Emma: literally getting hate crime
The people in the background: 💃🏻🕺🏾💃🏻🕺🏾
I wanted that trump line so bad
same😭😭😭
I’m a bit late I haven’t actually watched the musical so I’m not one to compare but I feel like the movie was a bit eh-. This just feels more lively and energetic. The movie was funny at times but it just lacks a lot of zazz.
Andrew Rannells singing Love Thy Neighbour was definitely the best part of the movie for me.
The cat ounsie makes the sass song so much better!
6:22 please! is this shelby's coming out too? i hope.
Does Caitlin not usually wear the car onesie? Is that why everyone was losing their mind?
I cant remember if this was the last show but if it was that would make sense, plus the audience would be making them laugh as well.
This was at the last show so it was a surprise!

So do I 😔✊
Like it’s so frickin caTchy
i like the movie more because andrew rannells i just love him sm
This made my day!

I literally teared up during that part and it was a 2 second clip, like ?????
I would have enjoyed the movie if I hadn't seen the musical. The musical just has better jokes, better chemistry and doesn't show Emma so smiley. Also why did Emma and Alyssa feel like side characters in their own movie?
yeah same! and it felt more about the actors :(
Agreed!! I was screaming at my TV when Emma was smiling DURING HER BREAK UP SCENE. Omg. Still liked the movie a lot though. Musicals better though
I loved the movies. Emma and Alyssa were outstanding
I havent seen the theater ver when I watch the film. But after watching the theater ver I started to hate the film a bit lol. Especially what they did to You Happened and how they show Alyssa and Emma relationship!
But I love Jo Ellen Pellman and Ariana Debose. Cant wait to see more project of them!
yes i thought the exact same thing. i felt like deedee and tom were more prominent than alyssa and emma
i liked the movie but i feel like they put Emma and Alyssa in the background. They cut down their songs and we missed a lot of their great moments between them. I think if i hadn’t seen the *slime tutorial* before i would have liked it more but it doesn’t compare to the stage version. Also i felt like Emma was wayyy too smiley throughout the movie. She was beaming while breaking up with Alyssa and it felt wrong
Finally some one agrees Emma was weirdly smiley!! I mean she was good, it was just kind of weird sometimes. Plus no one will ever replace Caitlin Kinninun in my heart
Hi i definitely though she was too smiley, but someone brought up the fact on like faking your feelings, so scenes like just breathe where she’s smiling and stuff actually make a lot more sense in that context.
literally! why was she happy like the whole movie...
I 100% had the thought that if I hadn't seen the original show (I saw it live and I've watched the slime about 10 too many times) I would have liked the movie better but... it feels like the movie only took away. They took away so many songs and (not to be shady, but) so much of the amazing talent and gave us... James Corden, a straight guy, getting the 'gay guy gets his relationships fixed' storyline?? Really??
@@brodydicks4174 i think my biggest issue with the movie was it felt like a gay movie for straight people. like a way for straight people to feel good about themselves because they’re not “like that” and i never felt that way about the musical
The only thing I liked about the movie was Love Thy Neighbor. Andrew KILLED it. Which makes sense since he’s mainly a Broadway actor.😂
EXACTLY
when they did love the neighbor and Andrew did the jazz spilt he said he did in the Book of Mormon and he hadn’t done the spilt in ten years he said he thought the younger cast would have to get him up
I love Andrew rannells so much
The audience absolutely sobbing in the background god me too
All of us
Tried to rewatch... it's sadly ironic that Ryan Murphy managed to do the same thing his movie criticized its Broadway actors of doing to Emma. He had no problem shoving her aside for his A-list actors and message, it's mind blowing that he introduced Emma's grandma only to have her only scene be with Barry and never show up again. Ariana Debose and Andrew Rannells were by far the best thing in the movie for me.
Agree, but I would also add Kerry Washington to that list!
And Meryl and Nicole, pretty much everyone but James were the best parts.
Two things: The person crying in the background of Unruly Heart is a mood and also UA-cam ruined my happy cry at the end by following the video with literally the straightest ad ever being like "bigger boats call for tougher TRUCKS" like oh gosh why?
they should have listened to Angie and given the movie some zazz. bc it felt lacking
FR AOEFNOIEANFINA
Has anyone else noticed that the musical version of Alyssa seems to be into Emma more then the movie version or is it just me ?
Yeah, i saw the movie first and i was doubting Alyssa's love for Emma, but then i watched the broadway show and realised what Alyssa's character actually should be.
Chemistry was much better in the show. It was my main issue with the movie (besides Corden)
Definitely!!
Doesn't help that they cut out Emma and Alyssa's verse out of You Happened in the movie which meant we didn't get to see their great chemistry in that scene.
I never saw the live show, but it felt like in the movie they made it more about the adults and not what Emma is going through.
exactly
Cause that's the musical
m.ua-cam.com/video/_841ZDCJXYQ/v-deo.html
The stage version holds so much more heart compared to the movie, wish I could watch the whole show though this video compiled some pretty cool parts
I miss live theatre so much.
same.
this doesn't matter much but the musical was much more authentically Indiana, like the college decor in the applebee's and the realistic crummy hotel and just everything. there was one scene in the movie that had like... palm trees and big italian-looking houses like a fancy neighborhood in california and that did not look right at all
wait that’s so true
Yeah, Indiana is all suburbs and Indianapolis lol
That’s cause the movie was filmed in LA lol, was v confused at why there was a mall when Edgewater is supposed to be in the middle of nowhere
I literally lived in Indiana most of my life and saw the performance in Indiana, THEN saw the movie and I was like "what"
this just hurts so much because it’s from their closing night so everyone is just so emotional 😭😭
use me as "I WISH THAT BARRY DID THOSE LITTLE DANCE MOVES IN THE MOVIE " button
I went into watching "The Prom" on netflix blind. I had no idea what the movie was about or that it was based off of a broadway show. Personally I love the movie so much. I found the costumes were amazing and the songs great! The choreo for it was stong and the actors were unbeliveable. Ive listened to the soundtrack to many times in just 3 days and watched the movie full twice. Im sure if I had more than just "GAY AND MUSICAL" I would be more judgemental or something but for now I am in love with the movie and just anything "The Prom" related. Also I cried alot. I have no idea if anyone else did but i was waterworks lol
I liked it but. James Cordon playing Barry as a straight man doesn’t sit right with me
@@beccar7147 I was more thrown off by his american accent with the stereotypical gay voice that people use. It was very off putting in the begining but also really funny.
The Short Stack! I think he was really good with the acting (the accent was a bit strange) but the thing is. They should have hired a gay actor to play a character whose whole entire arch is based on gay oppression
@@beccar7147 I agree but I also feel that any good actor/actress could play any sexual orentation and still put the heart and heartbreak into the character. It really is an in the air topic considering the actors sexuality to the characters sexuality. If they were to cast an LGBTQ+ member to play Barry then that would have been amazing but James Corden did an excellent job potraying the way many gay people with unexepting parents feel when coming out even though he is a staight man.
The Short Stack! It's not that he did a bad job it's just that it's offensive that they casted a straight man in Barry's role
See, I really like this - it knows what it is. The movie just came across as preachy / cringe : (
ikr!
Tag yourself I'm the sobbing during the end of Unruly Heart
I personally did not really like the movie. Even without comparing it to the musical, the songs felt unfinished and a lot of the dialogue felt really unnatural. With the show, there are jokes that still feel natural, and (to me), make it much funnier. The film did do some things right, like making Deedee and Barry have actual emotional depth, but I was a bit disappointed when they did nothing to build Emma and Alyssa's relationship and have the audience care for them. Plus, they had frickin ANDREW RANNELLS play Trent and they decided to almost entirely cut out one of his songs (which, I know that Acceptance Song is terrible, but it's enjoyably bad, plus it gives Trent some character development from that to Love thy Neighbor, when he actually starts to care about helping Emma, instead of false sympathy). Anyways, sorry for the rant, I just really like this show and the movie just felt like a giant missed opportunity. Thanks for reading if you got this far :)
i absolutely agree. it’s like they changed the meaning of the movie. originally it felt like it was like emma had a hard life and only started to open up with the actors when they got closer. and before she was only happy when she was with alyssa. and YEAH WITH THE JOKES. it’s like they tried using the same jokes but because it was flim, not live theatre, it felt corny. alyssa and emma’s connection felt more real as well. in my opinion, some musicals just don’t work as movies. a lot of parts really didn’t work out well and it seemed corny. andrew was the only one who did a good job in my opinion. barry was pretty boring ngl
if that made any sense lol
*barry in the movie, barry in the musical was so funny
@@broadwaybiscuit8125 I feel the same. Honestly, I could go on and on about things the film didn't exactly get right. Also, yes, Andy Randy and the love thy neighbor scene were definitely the best parts of it
100% agree , also wasn't a huge fan of the costume design , like i loved dee dees yellow cape but the rest of her costumes were just not right , that purple dress she wears at the start should have been gold it would fit much better with her character and would look nice with her hair and makeup
Still think that the Broadway cast should have been in the film!!!
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY
Same. Or at least let them have cameos in the movie like Marvel and Stan Lee.

I love how EVERYONE is crying during Unruly Heart
Abt the movie: I liked it, but I was expecting something way better bc I was always comparing with the musical, which is such a great heartwarming show
exactly. there were some parts of the musical they should have added and some parts they should have taken out. but maybe i would have liked it better if i hadn’t seen the musical first
@@broadwaybiscuit8125 I went into the film completely blind and ended up liking it. Only now just seeing the parts that they cut and I’m honestly fine with it. Makes the Netflix film not a complete ripoff and encourages people to see the Broadway version (well slime tutorials of it since it’s closed now I believe)

i just realised that the actors at the back are crying at dance with you omg my heart cant handle this
a lot of people are saying that the Netflix version is the 'straightest queer movie ever' and i kind of get that tbh. even though the material is pretty much the same, the musical seems to have a different, less hettie vibe?? Perhaps because the movie seemed to have even less of the lesbians than in the musical - how could they CUT THEIR BIT in You Happened?? The audacity!!! As a result, I didn't feel the same chemistry between Emma and Alyssa; for me, they just didn't click in the same way as in the musical.
I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU JUST SAID
Everyone is entitled to their opinion!
I agree
I agree! I think one of the things they should have done was cast more LGBTQ+ actors, I think it would have added more depth to their portrayal of the characters
Also I wasn’t involved in their relationship in the film like I couldn’t care less that they broke up as I didn’t know them. But the stage show I was sobbing my heart out 💜
oh i was barely familiar with the staged version so i guess i kind of just passively accepted the movie?? but now im fully team musical prom live theatre just does it better
anddd that’s the reason i made this cideo
also i LOVE izzy's flailing arm thing in you happened
During "Unruly Heart" it sounds like Emma and people in the audience are crying.
Yup they are
yeah it was the last show as well
the girl in the purple "strong" shirt is sraigth up sobbing
ngl I was just gonna skim thru the movie for andrew rannells’ parts but decided to give the whole thing a shot and........I was disappointed with a whole bunch of things :( besides the fact that I wish they casted the original broadway cast (or at least an actual gay man instead of james corden), I feel like emma and alyssa’s relationship wasn’t developed as well as it was in the musical, which sucks because their relationship is kinda the thing that spurred all the events in the show
all that being said, I’m still glad people are getting into the musical because of the movie, but as someone who saw the musical first, the movie was.....meh in comparison
YUPPP I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU JUST SAID
*Was that second kiss in the ending scene supposed to happen??*
i think so
Actually no they usually punch up with their hands together at the end. And I think because it's their last Caitlin and Izzy just went for it. The second kiss is the cutest ever omg
actually no! that was the last performance so its not typical. same with the claps in "Build a Prom" and the cat onesie in the scene right before Zazz. Some of the clips are just because the cast improved quite a bit in the last show

honestly I love Meryl Streep and I would watch her doing anything for 3h straight, but I feel like they made Dee Dee kind of the protagonist of the story. And some jokes were cut out or just didn't work in the script. The actings were great, but Emma had a smile in her face the whole fucking movie, and I don't know why but the settings didn't feel natural to me (not to mention YOU HAPPENED)

Cheers me up every time
I personally loved the film. I absolutely adored it and it's become my comfort film but the things that annoyed me was the fact that in a 2 hour and 12 minute film, there was only 12 minutes of alyssa and emma (but honestly, I loved Jo and Ariana and I genuinely thought they had chemistry, they just needed more of a chance to show it).
They also sort of made it seem like DeeDee and Barry were the main characters and made Emma feel like a side character.
But all in all, I personally loved it and thought they did really well.
I loved everyone. I understand James Corden was a little controversial but I think he did a great job considering he was cast and that's that. Although they could've got someone like Neil Patrick Harris to play Barry, they didn't. So I think the Corden hate has to chill. I understand that him playing a very femme, stereotypical gay came off as a bit forced and a little rude but I genuinely don't think he deserves the hate.
The film made me feel seen and heard and represented in a way I haven't before. I love the characters, the songs, the routines, the overall story. I thought it was done really well, but damn do I wish I could see it on stage.
I liked the movie, it was cute an enjoyable but I wish they hadn’t cut parts of songs and added storylines. I feel like it took away from the Emma/Alyssa storyline which should have been the main focus
I enjoyed the movie, but it was really disappointing. They miscast so many parts, but then again we had our beautiful Andy Randy and Meryl and Ariana Deboe. We like halfway chile
They cut out so many amazing jokes that were in the broadway version that I was looking forward to. I think it made the movie sadder whereas when I saw it on Broadway, yes I cried like 5 times or more, but I also laughed a whole bunch. Overall I liked the movie but it is in no way better than the original.
nothing beats the original:)
Emma was literally smile the whole movie even in the sad scenes! It was so frustrating also I wish that Emma had been played by Caitlin Kinnunun (the actor here)
I agree! It threw me off so much.
Like I get it she was trying to stay positive but even when she was crying she seemed happy. And that break up scene was so bad how she just smiled the entire time.
literally! when she was breaking up with alyssa she was like 😃😃
exactly, a line like "I don't know what to do, I'm so scared" delivered really flatly with a wide smile on her face feels so weird. I really didn't like her portrayal but to be fair it is her first big acting gig and I'm sure she'll improve.
What bugs me is that she literally auditioned for the movie as Emma and they didn't cast her.

I guess I'm in the minority but I LOVED the movie. It was a lot of fun, the musical numbers were great, it made me laugh, it made me cry, and I thought it was overall just such a wonderful experience. I do think there were a few acting mishaps, I didn't love the constant flashbacks and cut aways in songs, the color palette was weird, and the added plotline of Barry's mother was a bit odd. But that's about all the criticism I have! I think it's a fun, heartfelt, and well-meaning movie that is exactly what we needed to end this year. Theatre people love to pick apart these movies to shreds but why can't we just let our guards down and have a good time? Idk, just my thoughts.
hi! i really did try my best to give it a chance, but it just took away what was important (in my opinion). i definitely did not go into watching it to hate on it! i really wanted to like it! the things they took out the things that were so important to me :( but if you liked it, that’s great! i’m glad you enjoyed it :D

It legit took me 10 seconds to start crying at unruly heart, i literally NEVER cry at movies/musicals but the prom takes 10 seconds to crack me omg
I thought the movie was alright if you weren't a fan of the musical, but at the same time it was kinda trash(as a fan). Emma and Alyssa had very little chemistry (which is strange for a couple) and very little screen time which just added to the weirdness of the film. I honestly think the Ryan Murphy was just trying to make sure that the big names (meryl streep etc.) got enough screen time; as well the mostly colored lights as FRICKIN POSSIBLE. Finally the kiss at the end was probably the most anticlimactic part of the film mostly because I literally had no reason to care for Emma or Alyssa.
i agree with everything you said :)
james cordon didn't really give off barry vibes if that makes sense

the movie made me sad bc emma was so vanilla and constantly had on a pleasant listening face. she felt like a stand in instead of a real character :/ so i’ve turned to youtube for clips of broadway’s emma lol
I personally like both the movie and the musical but that’s just my opinion. I do agree it kinda tells like two different stories though and that it is VERY different but to me that’s not a bad thing. Not everything is going to be the same, it’s the movie version I mean perfect example is book to movie like Harry Potter or like the twilight series. There’s gonna be things changed and things that are different. I don’t hold it against you if you don’t like the movie though, just don’t hold it against me for actually enjoying the movie.

Thank you so much for making this. I loved the Broadway show so much that I knew the movie wouldn't live up to it, so I did my best to go watch with an open mind. There is just something beautifully raw about the emotions and acting choices made in live theatre that can't be replicated in a movie format. I thought that the movie was good, but I was sad about some of the things they chose to cut and change. Overall, I'm glad that there are more people joining the Unruly Hearts Club. I really hope at least some of them will get to experience the full brilliance of the show when it tours.
yes! i really did try to give it the benefit of the doubt. but the musical deserve so much better. it was like they changed the meaning or the movie. it felt like it wasn’t really like the broadway stars and emma friendship or emma’s and alyssa relationship. and the jokes did not work in the movie. some things only really work in live theatre. everything you said is true. i really hope they cast the same people for the tour :/

I loved the movie... like a lot, it really made my 2020 but watching this I do see that the jokes lacked and general chemistry between them all! I won’t stop loving Jo Ellen as Emma and Ariana as Alyssa though cos I thought they were so good as well as Andrew as Trent, BUT THE GUY WHO PLAYS BARRY IN THE ORIGINAL SHOW IS ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS
Is it just me...
Or does Alyssas mom look like Jill from dance moms?
I'm confused, why did people laugh at 4:18?
beth (dee dee allen) broke character and started laughing
Here is my opinion: I loved how Alyssa and her mom had a sweet make-up scene during the prom at the end. I also absolutely LOVED Meryl Streep and I think she played dee dee so well. However I didnt like the casting for Emma. They made Emma seem like she was forcing Alyssa to come out and she smiled during the worst scenes lmao. I liked the principal in the movies just as much as in the musical. I think they should have focused on different parts in the movie and I liked the humor of the musical better them the movie but overall I think it was pretty good and not as bad as people say it is.
Anyone mind explaining to me why is everyone laughing at 4:20? Is it because of her onesie? Is it different than other performances?
yeah, barry called her “kitty cat”, which was improvisation! in the regular show (this is closing night) she wears a different outfit, which she isnt.
Why did I cry more at this video than the movie...
