I've had that too on my last build. I corrected it by removing a couple of mm from the end of the heel as my truss rod was in the headstock. It was difficult but meant I could leave the realtvie positions of everything else alone. I did remove a small amount from the neck cut on the pickguard as did you. I can't notice the extra fretboard overhang. So interesting to see the same issues and they're various solutions! I learn so much from that! Thanks!
Could you have just shaved the heel of the neck the 3mm needed? You would’ve had to do it to the neck template as well. Also, I’d be sure to mark on that body template to move the bridge forward 3-5mm when marking for the initial routs. That’ll be sure to fix any problems on any future builds using these plans. And the cavity route on the back wouldn’t have to be moved, just the crossover/through body part. The main cavity should be fine.
Well done fixing the fit mate. Although I would have just assumed, as you obviously did, the templates would all fit together nicely, and been a bit annoyed when they didnt. Perhaps if I ever build a strat, Ill check all the templates work and fit together before doing the routing. 😊
I got a set of strat templates cause I wanted to make sure if someone just bought a body from me and neck somewhere else it all fit together and visa versa. No such luck. Same problems as you with the control pocket. And the center line wasn't right either. So I ended up making all the adjustments and recutting new templates. Something just really sexy about the Strat body. Although I hate the control lay out. Two knobs are enough and put the switch somewhere it won't get hit when thrashing.
the tele i just made was my first time using bought templates as well. I pretty quickly regretted the investment and wish I just did it myself. The little differences between all the different manufacturers, components etc made it more complicated to use the templates when if i just made the guitar based on the parts I had it would have been much easier. At least i dont have fomo with bought template now lol. Strat looking nice, got that sea foam green paint yet?
Nice job on the save!!! I probably would have cut a block and glued it in and re-routed the bridge system... But that being said, i have never built a guitar and just watch everyone else do cool shit lol

Hmmmm so I have now added a 2m steel rule to my essential guitar making kit list. And I'm only a couple of mins into the episode.
You had me worried when you said it didn’t all fit! Glad you got it sorted.
Nice juggling, Patrick! Of course, I've never! 😁
Good job Patrick. 👍

Cheers :)
I've really been enjoying the attempts to shoot the tape into the bucket recently 😆
Especially with the old Wii sports “awww” sound when Pat misses.
Nice work Pat. Goal shooting needs work though
Nice recovery!
Cheers.
I’m really in awe of your confidence with that tiny router base.
This so called « disaster » gave us a very instructive video. Well done and thanks a lot,
Cheers buddy, glad it was helpful.
Looks great
Cheers :)
Certainly a real world problem that I've had before too. Nice work!

You can fudge the fingerboard.
Looking great, i do love a strat. Did you decide on a colour?

It crossed my mind as a possible solution if I couldn't work things out. Thankfully it wasn't needed.

Would longer saddle adjustment screws do the job?
My 1m rule gets used the most
