The fight scene between Bond and Trevelyan just before Bond kicks open the ladder hatch is really beautifully done. It's so raw without any musical score and there's something about these two beautifully acting this twisted but amazing 'brother' like relationship that just grips me so much and I believe every fight scene, every confrontation, everything. It's hard to explain but this film stuck with me so much because of this. The N64 game was also fantastic in its own ways!
@@LexingtonDeville984 goldeneye just has the best things that's in a bond movie. Great action, brilliant actors, brosnan as bond, good plot twist, music, intro to movie, honestly hands down my favourite bond movie.
Well said. It is true between James and Alec they had a brother like relationship considering that they were best friends pretty much one of the few people James ever trust in the world practically. Personally I find it very sad and tragic that he went rogue.
I swear the confrontations between Bond and Trevelyan are some of the best this series has offered. For the first time watching this movie, I legitimately saw a threat to Bond because it went beyond simply being an evil genius or hulking brute. It was a villain who knew him on a personal level for years and could get inside his head. Silva in Skyfall was also a great example of this and Blofeld in Spectre was unfortunately a poor attempt at it.
One of the very few Bourne-quality moments for the character, especially pre-Craig. Instead of some genetic mutant with a disfiguring deformity, or a megalomaniac running on pure ego and adrenaline, Bond faces one of his own, someone at his level, and it's a fairly breathtaking confrontation. Both characters show tremendous invention and confidence during this battle. We won't see the like again until Bond goes after the elusive Mollaka in Casino Royale.
Tommorrow Never Dies was just as awesome IMO. The world is not enough is average with its moments. And Die Another Day is complete shit (except the intro scene)
Don't forget Die Another Day had ANOTHER MI6 insider who knew him to some extent.Casino Royale had a PATHETIC villain and the whole storyline was a mess. WORST Bond film ever.
adamtherock2008: In agreement with you, because the two agents were close friends/comrades and when 006 was revealed as the main antagonist, the latter has an unwavering loyalty to protect and serve. As Trevelyan was a threat to global security, no way Bond was going to let going to let his former MI6 colleague's plans come to pass - the storyline is repeated (more or less) in Skyfall. Proof that someone like Hinx or Jaws weren't that memorable (no disrespect) much of a threat in an intellectual way to 007. With SPECTRE, it could have been so much better - a little too predictable in my view.
Trevelyan is like the anti Bond. The same skill set but used for bad instead of good. They are equally matched. He was a great villain. Casino Royale follows the story in the original Ian Flemming novel. Most would agree that it is one of the best Bond films. I don't know what movie you watched. I always thought 006 was a badass and perfect rival to James
In my opinion, this was THE best fight scenes during Pierce Brosnan's run as 007 and one of the best in the entire series. The sense of tension built up by the chase, the small beats in between, the great editing along with clear camera work, and the tight setting in the mechanical room of the antenna tower where the fight actually happens all helped to give the right speed of pace and sense of menace. The fight choreography was also great in that it wasn't overly elaborate ( don't get me wrong, elaborate fight choreography can be great but not when it becomes silly). But anyway, a great scene. It totally makes sense that it was director Martin Campbell they trusted to restart the series with Daniel Craig.
"For England, James?" "No. For me." No doubt a jab at the fact that Trevelyan was always mocking James for his loyalty to Emgland. Evident in quotes like "Her Majesties loyal terrier." But now 007 basically says "I take things personally too, you know."
The final battle in Goldeneye 007 for the Wii and Goldeneye 1995 is different. In the game, James shoots Alec, where Alec falls into an exploding building, but in the movie, James lets go of Alec, Alec survives the fall, but then gets crushed by the Goldeneye tower.
I always thought this was one of the sadder bond films. 007 literally looks broken hearted when he figures out it was all 006. The only other time I’ve thought a bond film was sad in a similar way was when Tracy gets shot in OHMSS. Both amazing films
MrClassicDoctorWho: In so many ways, all of them have a touch of sadness. Take a look at QoS: 007 witnessed Mathis getting killed, Camille Montes finally taking revenge on Gen Medrano, Dominic Greene taunting Bond and other backstory. The events in Skyfall tell us all we need to know, as for Licence To Kill, it certainly shows 007 has an extremely dark side and if it means somebody getting "fitted up" (Milton Krest in this case, who was innocent all along) then the British agent didn't have much choice. No wonder the series lasted this long and it's still going!.
Goldeneye is one of the best modern Bond movies in my opinion, and the best of the Pierce Brosnan ones. Really good premise taking place in post-Soviet Union times, and the later Pierce Brosnan ones got consecutively worse.

So not long ago, the real radio telescope antenna (Arecibo in Puerto Rico, not Cuba) was due for decommission and actually collapsed, destroying the dish. If it was used in other movies besides this one, then the cradle is truly destroyed. It will live on in GoldenEye 007, GoldenEye Source, and our hearts. The Arecibo facility was used to listen to distant radio transmission from extragalactic nuclei (galaxy centers) and other radio signals emitted from deep space, such as theorized transmissions from extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI program). The facility opened on November 1st, 1963 and collapsed December 1st, 2020.
One of the best fight scenes ever in a bond film. They really went at each other with both guns and fists! To this day there hasn never been such a long and intense climatic fight with the mail villain in a 007 movie. If I should name on complain it would be Trevelyan surviving that fall, it`s not like he was a superhuman or anything..
There’s only a couple of shots I can make out that are definitely the stunt doubles, but even then, because of how well Terry Rawlings edits the film, you can barely notice it.
1st Bond film I ever saw and been a big fan ever since.I was probably 9 at the time when I played the game and that was my introduction to the character.10/10 favorite Bond game and movie.
Little fun fact: For the confrontation between Bond and Trevelyan inside the antenna cradle, director Campbell decided to take inspiration from Bond's fight with Red Grant in From Russia with Love. Pierce Brosnan and Sean Bean did all the stunts themselves, except for one take where one is thrown against the wall. Brosnan injured his hand while filming the extending ladder sequence, making producers delay his scenes and film the ones in Severnaya earlier.
Appears that Brosnan is the 90's version of Connery: charm, romantic, humorous and last and not least, extremely brutal. The way how both dealt with the bad guys made the world (in movies) that much safer. Not that I'm ignoring the others - who are equally dangerous!.
back in the day people made movies that were entertaining. but now people are soo picky and their movies have to be super realistic and we get no fun stuff like that.
This one has troubled me greatly. However, I would say that in so remote an area, a massive electrical system was unlikely, so that it's possible that this giant machine ran on petroleum fuel. It, at least, would require tremendous amounts of oil-based lubricants to keep greased, and these would likely be stored in barrels close to where they were needed, for convenience's sake, given how remote the center of the antenna was from the rest of the base. Large supply of oil + many well-greased parts + electrical fire (overloaded engines) = eventual explosion. As large as the one we see? Well…dem's da movies, ;^P
Probably, but not that big... It could cause a small fire, but the reason the whole station blew up is because ALL the systems on it shorted out at once.
They were strict about the Headbutts. I saw this on a plane coming home from a holiday in Spain in 96. Bought the video a year later and noticed they'd been cut out. 12 certificate in Britain. No headbutts lol
It's only fitting the game had exploding computers, chairs, and lockers, the satellite is nothing, but steel, and not only did it catch fire, but it exploded. Never knew a hot motor that's seized up would explode like dynamite.
The fight scene between Bond and Trevelyan just before Bond kicks open the ladder hatch is really beautifully done. Beautiifully said. Just a perfect Bond fight scene! So well matched in skill.
The fact that they began throwing headbutts, knees and ear claps makes it more intense.

I did. He lost because he got distracted by the helicopter otherwise he kicked James Bond's ass.
This fight scene is just beautiful. No score, no distractions. Equally trained and they just fucking hate eachother. Brutal, fucking perfect.
I read that Pierce Brosnan and Sean Bean did most, if not all the fight. They rehearsed it like crazy and even during their breaks they worked it out.
There’s only a couple of shots I can make out that are definitely the stunt doubles, but even then, because of how well Terry Rawlings edits the film, you can barely notice it.
One of the most personal final Bond fights...
6:15 I love that headbutt to double kick combination.
one does not simply recognize rouge transmission from battlefield 4 in this movie
Best Sean Bean death ever also YES I AM INVINCIBLE! 😂😂
The guy in the like Hawaiian shirt and the crazy hair was my fav character lol
When did he injure his hand? When he drops with the ladder or when he drops down the ladder a second time?
3:26 - 4:09 Bond VS Trevelyan.
7:53 Yes! I am invincible!
Me: Let off some frozen, Boris.
Am I the only one that noticed that Ouromov's henchmen have more ammunition in their guns, than Trevelyan's henchmen?
That stupid gunship fucked it all up. Also, can someone explain why the gears getting stuck would cause such a spectacular explosion?
At this point of the series, the villains' lairs were destroyed by default. You don't question it anymore.
Well…dem's da movies, ;^P
the gears were overloading from being wound up too tight causing the systems to short out all over the antenna
DakariKingMykan
So if I short out my motherboard it will turn into a bomb?
Probably, but not that big... It could cause a small fire, but the reason the whole station blew up is because ALL the systems on it shorted out at once.
They were strict about the Headbutts. I saw this on a plane coming home from a holiday in Spain in 96. Bought the video a year later and noticed they'd been cut out. 12 certificate in Britain. No headbutts lol
1:58 Take that Solid Snake
006 really does resemble to Liquid...
I was referring to Bond's jumping move.
Rolling down the stairs and faceplanting at the end...clever!
02:52 Alan Cummings face when he found out he was recast in the X-Men movies
That 1:00 mark when the music kicks in my God I get so pumped
1:56 Suddenly Goldeneye becomes Dark Souls.
It's only fitting the game had exploding computers, chairs, and lockers, the satellite is nothing, but steel, and not only did it catch fire, but it exploded. Never knew a hot motor that's seized up would explode like dynamite.
