maybe i would also add that you can do the hockey stop by lifting your back foot (stoping on the outside edge) to position it properly... it works for some ppl aswell :) I did my first hockey stop like that like a week ago and it worked for me flawlessly... first i managed to do that hockey stop on one foot and after that instead of turning both feet simultaneously i just turned the front foot and lifted and added the second foot already positioned on the outside edge :) and ALSO you missed a very very important thing... you need to have your weight on the front to the middle side of your skate because you are stopping on the front to the middle area of the skate blade and not the heel part. Another thing I realized :D
Thank you for giving me an actual explanation. This is going to be so helpful. Definitely earned a subscribe for me and like on that video. Can't wait to see what else can teach me!!
Amazing video that includes step by step instructions to inspire the rookie ice skater for hockey stop, like me,aha I actually frequently come to lakerside, hope to see you in person
The higher the radius the less edge you will have and the easier it will be to stop. Also, the higher the radius and the harder it will be to start and turn because the bite in the ice is diminished. I always veiw a stop as get on both edges of the skate to create that slide. This is why the snowplow stop is used in teaching beginners as it promotes this action.@niklausprosper
@niklausprosper so if I just want to mess around and kind of freestyle/have fun, is there a preference for it? Not looking to play hockey at all or do any figure skating competition
If you don't want to figure skate and you're not taking lessons, hockey skates all the way. If you are in class you will need figure skates to learn waltz jump and other jumps. If you are doing any figure skating or class, I can tell you it's best to go with figure skates from the start because once you get used to hockey skates figure skates are annoying and you will view the toe picks as enemies whereas figure skaters love them. Freestyle skating uses hockey skates. Figure skates will not work well for freestyle skating.
@@niklausprosper also ty so much ur the reason i found my new passion to roller skate and ice skate ice skating was a passion of mine for a long time but i coldent develop it buy u inspired me to do so so tysm again

Bro, i have been waiting for your tutorial of skating backwards

For skaing does it matter if I use hockey or figure and what's the difference between the skates for goalie and players?
Yes it does matter. Depending on where your passion goes
@niklausprosper so if I just want to mess around and kind of freestyle/have fun, is there a preference for it? Not looking to play hockey at all or do any figure skating competition

@TheLarryBrown thank you for the feedback I really appreciate it
Can you do it with those public skate for rent that are not sharp ? Or do you need sharp hockey skates ?
Yes you can but it’s best to have your own skates
Hockey stop is easier with dull skates.
I’m almost there but I’m struggling to commit. I’m scared that I’m going to fall or hurt my ankle when using my outside edge on my back foot
What kind of skate sharpening do you use?
S-9
Finally found you on yt

Hey, bro can u make a tutorial on the outside vine? Or like a vine trick?
Grapevine?
@@niklausprosper yeah but there are also another vines, like chasse croisé and all those stuff. Do one on the grapevine, it would be helpful
Do you have a designated place in NYC to get ur skates sharpened ? I usually go to prospect but I feel there are better spots
Jus do it manualy
I don’t sharpen my blades but I think try Bryant park

But*
I cant seem to put enough weight on my front foot but when I do I dont stop fluently, any help about this?
You have to lean backwards slightly but maintain the weight on the front foot
@@niklausprospercould also be that my skates barely have edges since the rink sharpener messed them up and there isn’t a skate shop anywhere near me
Go to Lloyd Center plees
Where’s that?
bros intro got muted xD
Luckyy u get to go skating rn?
You can
"hockey stop" yes you know what you are talking about... Next pls teach us to hockey shoot.
