Hey I know it's been over 5 years since you uploaded this, but re-watching it makes me glad there are other Subaru enthusiasts proving that VDC is extremely important and useful off-road. Thanks again for your uploads!
Excellent video!!! It clearly shows the VDC aiding the AWD system (in this instance, the best non-DCCD system from Subaru, the VTD [Variable Torque Distribution]). Although I don't enjoy automatics for driving on the road, it definitely proves itself with the VTD and VDC combined!

Ummmm, I don't know if I replied to your comment already, but turbocharged EJ engines with automatic almost always have the VTD. I know the non-turbo Forester has the MPT, but the turbo Forester, as far as I remember, is equipped with VTD. I'll contact a Subaru representative about this and see what they say.
It's simple. To do this, need mechanical parts of great strength and weight, like Land Cruiser, Discovery etc. It is impossible to do the same without damages in diffs and driveshafts in a small suv, like forester, rav4, x-trail, new vitara etc.
I'm pretty sure the Forester still uses the MPT (with automatic gearbox) and centre viscous LSD (with manual gearbox) AWD systems and has not yet been upgraded to VTD.
VDC is a multi part system which includes ABS, traction control (TCS), stability control, and throttle control (can't remember the exact name Subaru uses for this). Pushing the "traction control" button to off really has nothing to do with TCS on Subarus like in this video as well as other automatics. You're simply turning off the throttle control which stops the ECU from taking the throttle away if it senses too much. The electronic LSD (aka: TCS), cannot be turned off. I'm speaking from USDM .
One of the best vids showing how MY09+ foresters work with VDC. I've always thought VDC off turns traction control off but leaves ESP on. If it also keeps TC on (which immitates electronicaly lsd??) and ESP on then what part of VDC system it turnes off? What cuts off the engine powers in this case? Or maybe I am wrong and indeed it turnes off TC which has nothing to do with el.lsd and once wheels start spinning it cuts of the power? So does TC has something to do with lsd immitation?
Great vid on how the VDC and Traction control works, however i wish he would KEEP holding the accelerator and STOP pausing when the power is transferred from the slipping wheels to the ones that need power. He almost makes it look like the AWD system is junk...But we all KNOW its not.
No, VDC has no relation with torque, VTD do that work in autos. The rear diff in this model is free and electronics have replaced the lsd. Your legasy has viscous as foresters, or suretrack. Helical is only front in some spec-c and sti 06+.
Great video. I wish to understand all what you said, but i do not know your language :(. Can your black sg9 beast do the same? Or the new foresters SH are better offroaders?
@simakkk New 2.5XT with auto, is better than the old models in off-road. My black ''beast'' could pass much easier, because it has dccd with 50-50 lock and lsd front-rear with the rear very stiff. Byt it is not like a stock 2.5XT!!!

Dolllar for dollar, these things just kick ass. Love my new 2.5i

Excellent education on VDC operation! Bravo! I have tried these same tests with my 2010 forester and it has same results. VDC works beautifully! :-)

In auto forester, el.lsd works always. With vdc on, the engine cuts power when it is necessary to avoid wheels spinning.
In the USA the 2009 Forester came standard with VDC and Stability control with rollover protection.
A really good video, explaining a lot. Thank you!
Thanks, it is clear now. I mixed up TC and EL.LSD. LSD just gives momentum, TC prevents spinning.

Many thanks! Very good video about VDC on my Forester. Nau i now,how it works
Great Video, thank you for posting!
Symmetrical awd for the win

Damn that dude is speaking fast , says 5 words in 1 sec
Depends. in some Cases maybe. Auto 2.5 pretty reasonable, Has vcd.
THanks a lot! Very informative video!
@stannns
It is not mine. I just test some foresters of foresterclub members.
The auto, is good in off-road.
excellent forester!

I'll try some other time!!!
For this video, i wrote that i could.

very nice video
You should get your hands on the new model and test out X-mode.
Great video. I wish to understand all what you said, but i do not know your language :(.

Thank you for this video! how do you like new forester?

This is a special models? I have a Forester XT 2009 but it doesn´t have any VDC button.,
This is auto. I don't know more, it's not mine.
nice
apparently the non turbo is better transitioned to off road. And you're supposed to turn off vcd
In this model, auto turbo is better in off-road.
thanks you suba400
If I spoke slowly, could you to understand Greek?:)
X-MODE!!
Could you to speak english?
