Being honest, even if it’s brutally honest, is always the best option. If you lie, you’re only going to prolong the pain. And also hold that person back from finding someone who will truly love them.

@Inês Constante You’re not a horrible person. It happens sometimes but that doesn’t mean that the person that isn’t in love with the other is bad. I don’t know you but I don’t think it is bad to not love someone else anymore. If you haven’t told her, then you should tell her as soon as possible (if you are really sure that you don’t want to be with her anymore). If you have already then I hope you both are okay and don’t have anything against each other. I haven’t been in a relationship but I know it’s bad if people end in bad terms. It hurts both people so if I ever do have a boyfriend and I don’t love them anymore, I’ll try to end it on good terms so none of us hate the other. I don’t know if what I am saying make sense. I’m just typing as I think. Anyway you should just be honest to yourself and if you are sure that you don’t love them anymore, you should end it before they get their hopes high.

As someone who experienced both perspectives I say it's equal, if not the person who is leaving gets the heavier weight. Getting left unexpectedly is temporary but a sharp pain. But being the one to leave, you built up the relationship with the person only to leave and having a constant thought at the back of your head that your relationship even as friends could never be the same. It haunts you for way much longer. It still does to me till this day.

-. Katz .- I would have to disagree and say the one getting dumped hurts more. If you fall out of love with someone, its painful and ending things are difficult but eventually you’ll move on quicker because your feelings have already. Meanwhile, if you still love that person, then it’ll be harder for you to deal with especially since you’ve probably noticed signs already. Watching someone fall out of love with you and but staying until they break it off because you love them is truly difficult.

I've never been in your position and have no right to say this, but I think you should fight for your love for him. I don't think you should give up just yet. But if you still feel him falling out, I think you should talk it over with him. Then you should decide if you should still continue your relationship. From my experience, I don't fear of losing people close to me because I believe if they are truly worthy, they will stay in my life. Honestly from looking at the title I thought it was about denying your feelings for someone who clearly doesn't love you so you say "I don't love you" as a lie. But now reading the lyrics, It seems like you want to reject them not too nicely and not too rudely. All you can say is I don't love you and there's no reason other than simply not falling in love with them just like they did with you. Although the way they sang this song sounds like they're(the singers) the ones getting their heartbroken, it feels like they sang it this way because not only is it unfortunate for the confesser but it's also unfortunate for the one getting confessed to. There are big chances that this relationship as friends would be broken forever. Although their hearts don't ache anymore for the person getting rejected, they also can't help but feel that it's unfortunate to lose their friendship. They can't even say sorry because even if they did it wouldn't change the way they feel over the other party and it makes me think that they don't want to make the person think that their feelings gave them a burden.
To me The way they forwardly say "I don't love you" so many times hurts my heart but in a way it makes me close these feelings and makes me able to move on.

I've been in a painful situation recently. The person I liked confessed to me. I saw this coming for a while and I would've confessed to him first if I wanted to. But I held back for such a long time because college applications are coming up, and I don't want to juggle a relationship. I've worked too hard the past years to be distracted now. I took a night to think about it before I rejected him, and believe me when I say that night was torture. The next day, I gave him a very simple answer because if I said more I would've fell apart. It took everything to not cry when I saw his face. I wanted to hug him like he's a scared little child, but I thought about what I worked for these past years, and when he questioned why I'm going against both of our feelings, I answered in a more serious tone because I know that he has been working just as hard. It's been a week now. I thought rejecting him will free me from emotional burden, but it only dragged me down. I don't know where to go to for release, but this song gave quite a similar message I've trying to give myself. I don't love him.

for me this song is just about moving on, either through ending a relationship or getting over someone. time eventually lessens the pain or the emotions that you have of someone that you cared for. at some point in dating or post breakup, you realize that you don't care as much about the other person... that you just don't love them anymore. So here i go, i personally connect to this song not because i fall out of love, but because i have to lie to her so she can get married to another man that she also love. When we were dating her parents didn't really accept our relationship because i was still a college student and her parents have arranged her to get married to their friend son and they're hoping that maybe what we have only temporary, it wasn't, she told me that she love me and so do i, i never expected that to happen, but after she got introduce to the other guy she started going out with him and i let her in hoping that it's only to make her parents happy.
I know what i did is stupid and maybe you people will say that we can work it out, but in all honesty i have to let her go. She loves him, i don't know if she loved me more but i know that i have to let her go so she can be happy. Her parents already arranged her to marry him so there's really nothing i can do but to lie to her and say that i don't love her anymore.

I think the hardest thing to tell someone is that you fell out of love for them. Telling someone you love them is already hard, but saying that it doesn't exist anymore is way harder and absolutely painful to the person you'd tell it to and for yourself since hurting someone is not easy.
It's hard falling out of love knowing that you're inflicting such pain on somebody you once loved, you may not love them but you still care. You can't force yourself to love someone, and it's better spitting the bitter truth than to live a lie for the sake of someone else's happiness, inflicting harm against you and the person you once loved. It's not easy for any side.

I don't know if i already commented here or not, but since a lot of ppl are sharing their perspective, here's mine: i don't think the singers are sad or anything, i feel like they just lost interest in their once called lover just like that. The spark isn't there anymore, and they feel like a stranger to them for the sole reason that the feelings of love have vanished just like that. They are feeling neutral, not sad, and not really happy. But they don't love them enough anymore to care about how they feel. This sounds kinda harsh, but as someone who's been there, it's a weird feeling, but it only feels right to tell the other person you just don't love them anymore. And you're not sad about it.

i’ve read a lot of stories here but from my perspective, i think this song conveys the message of how one is not afraid to let go of the person they don’t love instead of keeping them for their sake because you should learn to love yourself and think of yourself first and foremost before anything else. it will hurt the other person for a while but it’s better to say the truth that deceive someone with a lie and time will heal everything for sure so it’s also very hopeful. this song expresses not only the sadness but a positive message as well which is why i find it so healing and beautiful.

I thought I wouldn't be able to relate to this song because I've never been in a relationship but knowing the full lyrics it also applies to my one-sided love of 15 years. We've been classmates since kids and never thought I'd fall in love with him but it suddenly happened in our 2nd year of high school. I know he likes someone so I avoided him at all costs because I don't want him to know how I feel but because we've been friends since we're little he still cared for me. Recently, my sister told me that he secretly asked my sister if I swing the other way because they never see me getting into a relationship. It hit me hard. When I first discovered this song, I felt sad, sure, but it wasn't enough to tug my teardrops and make them fall down. However 6 months later, I graduated high school and my boyfriend at the time is getting deployed (anyone asking, he's older than me by 2 years and we've been dating for almost a year and a half). When I tell you that I saw the moment he was falling out of love with me, I tried to ignore it, I really did. He was my first love and I tried to justify it by putting it under the anxiety of being overseas, not seeing his family again, not being here, etc. I became more clingy than I normally would and I think he finally realized what was happening to him and even us. The day before he deployed, he told me that he didn't love me the same way anymore. His exact words were, "I love the way we are but I'm not IN love with you. I'm in love with our memories and our relationship but I don't think I'm in love enough to see us together romantically anymore." It's one thing to notice it, it's another for them to finally admit it themselves. It's been several months and I still have time coping with it.
If anybody is experiencing anything remotely similar, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Someone out there loves you and if you aren't with them, YOU LOVE YOU. Always put yourself and your happiness first. You are loved, don't y'all dare doubt that.
